Think they thought Cindy was flighty. That she left a good decent husband to sleep around. Ian was not innocent. He used money to control Cindy and was horrible to her. Look how he treated Laura later. The only reason he didn't get away with it with Jane was Jane stood up to him. Cindy was wrong but she was pushed to her limits. She actually loved David. He didn't seem capable of love though he tried. But Pat was so tough on David all the time. She wasn't always there for him as a child. Obviously Ian shouldn't have lost access but he should have treated her better. David was more related to Steven than Ian as Steven was his brother Simon's son.
