Well done! Its so rare to find a RUclipsr who gives the viewer all the Nuts & Bolts of the adventure. I'm usually saying "What lake is that? Where are you? How did you get there?". The only pieces of information missing for me is your filming date and temperature. Its been many years since I've visited the Ancient Bristlecone Forest. You've inspired me to plan another trip there soon. Thanks
We did this camping trip last year in late August. It’s was very pleasant. As you know down in the Owens Valley during August it gets super hot, but getting up to elevation here the temps were much much nicer. I can’t remember exactly what they were, but it definitely cooled significantly down at night and early morning. I will mention though, absolutely no cell service at the campground. I think there was some at the visitor center.
I always love how informative your videos are. I learn something new in every video. I have never made it that far west, but your videos make me feel like I have.
I love it there. I've been there 3 times. Climbed Mount Barcroft at 13,000 feet. Tried to climb White Mountain Peak twice and failed. The altitude slowed me down and I didn't give myself enough time. The night sky at the campground is perfect for star gazing. The video is great.
I would love to tackle White Mountain since you can drive up most of the altitude to the trailhead. But you're right, even at the Visitor's Center I was breathing heavy!
I visited the Bristlecone Forest in the spring a year ago and planned on camping at Grandview Campground, but it was still too cold at that elevation. Glad to see it looks way more comfortable at this time of year.
One of these days I'll go back there to hike to the top of White Mountain. I especially like that you can drive close to the top and then start the hike!
Cool video, my friend. Looks beautiful up there. I can’t believe it was once the bottom of the ocean. I enjoyed the history in the visitor’s center and the scenes of you guys cooking and camping. You have such a great narration voice.
Grandview was moderately busy (>50% of spots occupied) when I was there in early October 2023. It is a wonderfully quiet high desert area with a truly dark sky, excellent for astronomy. Bring your own water into the White Mountains: There are no springs or streams, Grandview campground has no water, and even at the Visitor Center, water is only available for sale - and very pricey. There are no bearproof storage boxes at Grandview because there are no bears. The ecosystem is not productive enough to support bears.
When did you go to this campground if you don't mind me asking? It seems very empty and I also noticed that they don't have bear lockers there. I have been thinking of going there, but would want there to be people.
I just spoke with an Inyo Forest Service Ranger who informed me, as I suspected, there are no bears in the White Mountains because of the lack of water sources. Of course the Sierra Nevada does have bears, but they are 2 completely separate mountain ranges even though they are both in Inyo County / Wilderness / Forest. As for other campers nearby, actually there were quite a few other camp spots near us, it's just they are spread out so you're not on top of one another (and you couldn't see them in the video). But I think we passed at least 15 other occupied camp spots. I'm not sure I would want to camp up there right now with the extremely cold temps and the snow. I suspect the roads to get up there are not plowed in the winter time - although you'd have to check with Forest Service and the BLM since they jointly manage the White Mountains. To put you at ease, even though the White Mountains / Grandview Campground is isolated, it is quite popular, I think due in great part to RUclips. And it is VERY BEAUTIFUL up there!
@@NixAdventrex Thx for this super detailed reply. Surprising that this camping spot is just as high as the ones in the Sierra Nevada, but it lacks water. I guess it gets less rain and snow due to the Sierra Nevada blocking many clouds. I actually wanted to go there in July and would probably get there on a weekend on Friday in the late afternoon. But if it's filled up by then there's nothing else around on my way to Nevada. I really feel like going there now.
As an avid explorer of the Eastern Sierras, I’ve always wanted to venture further to the other side of Owens Valley. Very well done!♥️
Highly recommend Grandview Campground. Once you get up there you’ll understand why it’s named Grandview. Awesome views of the Sierra Nevada.

That is a really beautiful thing to say. Makes me happy my videos can take you to new places. 💕

You definitely need to check it out. It’s a great place for camping. But yes, I can imagine how cold it can get up there so high in elevation!
Thank you for making this video! We are always looking for new campgrounds to check out 🙂
Good stuff.
a beautiful area with the final goal to reach the top of White Mountain.

Well made video. It is good motivation for me to try harder on mine!
I find with every video I get a little bit better. And of course, watching other channels is the greatest motivation. Thank you for the kind words!
Great footage and information. Looks like an amazing place to camp.
It really is, just camp there before it gets too cold. But if you're a lover of the Sierra Nevada this is spot is a MUST!

Thank you so much. I love finding out about the history of places we visit. Geology is kind of a secret passion of mine.
Ciao Nix! Exchanging subs here! Thank you and supporting. Keep the good work up! Luca
Thank you! Love your beautiful videos. Thanks for subbing!
Another excellent adventure!
Thanks for watching Jason!

Its first come-first serve, or was in 2023
Yup. That’s how it was when we up there. Plenty of open spots.
