Very interesting vid about a cool car and engine. With few paved roads and no freeways, cars just weren't built for speed back in the day. Standard rear axle ratio for 1947 Chevy was 4.11:1, even though the car had overhead valves and independent front suspension.
Thanks for making this video. It's good to know the history of the Hudson Terraplane. I have been watching other videos since last week. Years ago, I bought a rusted out 1936 Plymouth 4 door that had a similar style. I was a Ford guy and didn't have it very long but wish I would have kept it.
The only Terraplane I ever saw in person was one that my grand unkle had. A 1934 Terraplane 2 door coupe with suicide doors. The engine & trans had been replaced with a 350 chevy & a 3-spd manual trans on the floor. The car had a very nice body & interior.
Interesting video thank you, Terraplane what a great name just watched uncle brents garage strip an old siezed engine, the engineering of these is certainly a world away from what we have today, gona watch another of your videos now so i can hear it run
Depends on the level of restoration. The body on that car is solid. It needed interior work, and mechanical work. Luckily it wasn't missing major parts.

The 34 had a beautiful sunburst grill.

Such a difference, very primitive lube system ,
I had a friend a long time ago who grew up in the '30s when the Terraplane was introduced. He said their nickname soon became "terrible pane"
Probably a Ford guy, they hated the Terraplane's because they were the only car that could outrun the V8.
love these cars, thanks for showing yours.
Hey Gruesome, great video loved your thoughts. Much respect from Australia.
Thank you for your kind words. Love Australia and it’s car culture, talked with some great people over the years from there.
Nice car
Thankyou for showing this car
"Splash oil system" Some older Chevy 6 cyl were the same.
I have the badge that fits that grill
Do you have the crows foot ? The piece directly under the hood ornament.
I think Steve McQueen owned Hudsons.
He did , I believe that he had a 52 Hudson Wasp or Hornet . My wife bought a book on his cars and bikes.
I got a 1937
Mine is a 1937 Hudson terriaplane 2 door bissnes coupe
I cannot get over the styling is similar on the 36 and 37 but most parts don’t interchange. Other than mechanical.
Hey, Bad Chad is thinking about putting a Chevy 350 in his, maybe you could contact him and buy his engine? Tell him wahooiron sent you!
Thats a nice stock Terraplane, Chads car would haver needed a hill of money just to get to the stage your ones at
