I picked up the same version Pyrite and I got to agree, it is outstanding! It has quickly become a favorite in my collection! I hope to see more steel button locks in the future
I love my steel Pyrite! I preordered it and it’s been in the pocket a lot since then. I really like how the handle, blade and the clip all are tumble finished so it very uniform in fit and finish. Even with the increased weight this to me could be considered a gentleman’s knife in this format.
Just got this in black G10. Thank you for your review, it was definitely what made me decide on my self-birthday present this year. :-) Keep up the great work!
Gotta agree picked one of these up and they’re fantastic for the price the fit and finish is impressive, zero lock stick which was even more impressive for the newer onew
I got the gray G10 nearly a couple of weeks ago and I love it. I have several budget knives like this I enjoy in a way I don't with the fancier ones. I just _like_ it, the way you're saying you do. None available at the two big online stores, so I'm glad I got right on it. Interested to see how much AR-RPM9 resembles 9Cr, which is among my favorite lower-priced steels to sharpen.
The KnifeCenter exclusive Pyrite variant with titanium bolsters and black micarta handle was my personal favorite so I preordered it a couple months ago. It arrived today and as usual you're all over it MC, this knife is an instant classic. So well built and sharp looking too. Beautiful action on the button and deploy. Probably one of the best first time pocket knife buyer choices ever made.
Just ordered mine from BladeHQ. Thank you MC. Just received it and it is amazing like you said. I wish the steel was high quality but the knife is awesome
Definitely my favourite version of the Pyrite, and I'm planning to pick one up as soon as they're available in Australia. If you want a more premium Pyrite there's already a Knife Center exclusive that kind of fits that requirement; it has black micarta scales with titanium bolsters and a Ti pocket clip as standard (which also answers you question of if the aftermarket Ti clip fits). It's also only $73 (as it still has AR-RPM9 steel), so even still counts as budget. Also, if you're interested in a larger Pyrite I'm curious to know if you're planning to check out the CJRB Lago. It's not just a bigger Pyrite but any means, but it does seem to follow a similar K.I.S design principle, and it's a 3.5in button lock.
I’ve been holding off on ordering one of these but think I’m going to in the morning. I wanted to finish modding my zt 0562 and the Taco bearings I put in a few days ago were the final touch. I have a feldspar and love the arrpm9 steel. It takes a great, sticky edge, is very thin behind the edge and has pretty nice action once it’s broken in.
I’ve always been a fan of SS scales with no/integrated liners. I don’t care about weight and would love if there were more options like this but with something like M390 or M4.
A quality reviewer considers the knife instead of just saying steel = bad, thanks for taking the time to consider that the material of the handle doesn't automatically make a knife bad. That earned a lot of credibility with me. Its takes like that , that make these worth watching.
I have a black G10 version that's supposed to be delivered today. For me and my uses, the size is the Goldilocks for a daily CCW. I have a few 3.5" designs, but none are button locks, and they are just a bit larger than I'd like (3.5" is max legal CCW in my State).
Going to the link now, there's bound to be a version that fits me, for the interim it takes for CJRB to follow your recommendation for an Artisan rendition!
Say what you will about Grivory but my Griptilian got left on top of the car after I was putting my daughter in her car seat. We drove off and this thing fell off of the car and got lost in my driveway for about 2 days. Who knows how many times we ran over it and those two days. We obviously did a few times it was scratched up pretty bad but it's still just as solid as the day I bought it the lock is fine everything. I called Benchmade and they said that they would be happy to replace my scales for $25 but I think for now I'll just continue to beat it up until I decide they need a new set. I'm with you they do feel cheap at first but I have a whole new respect for Grivory. It's definitely suitable for hard work.
Got the titanium bolster one. It’s pretty awesome for the price. Beautiful. The milled titanium clip looks awesome but isn’t the greatest functionally. But if you have pockets with a thin hem and are ok with somewhat weak retention, it’ll be fine. Blade grind, action, ergos, appearance… all fantastic.
I got the xl and am REALLY happy with most everything about it except not premium. The shape action etc is perfect for my hand. I might do some mods for aestetics. Upside is i know know the formfactor if knife i like the best so been looking at others but similar. If your on the fence with xl just buy it
I have the prototype and I agree with you. A large premium version from Artisan would be freakin awesome! You have pull, call Russell and make it happen, thanks. : )
I love it so much I’ve bought every version I can so far.. aside from the bhq carbon one.. I maybe would buy it tho if I found one, I have a mini bugout that’s the same color as this, all stonewash and silver
How does this compare to the Vosteed Raccoon button lock? I like the larger Raccoon but the usable grip area looks smaller. I am going to buy one for sure to replace my Civivi Elementum. I find the actual grip able area on the Elementum just a tad bit small and I've cut myself fidgeting with liner locks.
As of this moment, Thursday 11/10/22 @9:45pm CST, Blade HQ has 4 variants in stock. I just grabbed a stainless version. I already have the KnifeCenter exclusive version. It's a lot of knife for the $$.
Just watched a disassembly video and just wanted to let you know that the pivot is in fact, or appears to be,captive internally with a d shape fitting that prevents it from moving. I think on this video of yours if you were to have turned it a little more it would have stop moving on the other side. Hope I’m seeing that right. Could you let us know on a correction post?
I ordered one myself with the micarta insert (pseudo bolster). Good review. I’m curious how you think it compares to the Knife Center black lines 4V Kiser Gemini buttonlock and and the Vosteed Thunderbird Treklock (new buttonlock? Can you do a comparison video?
I hate to break it to you, but "Boy howdy!" is absolutely something that usually comes out of your mouth on this channel. It's like one of your catchphrases.
Now THE question: for someone who is just looking for a good cheap pocket knife to do "normal knife things" is this better than the miguron velona? (Or if there are even better ones)
Hey! Looking for opinions, think I should get the Pyrite shown in video (all stainless steel handle) or a titanium bolster and pocket clip with Micarta handle variation? Same steel on blade for both (ar) ps metal you should really consider making your own knife! with all of the videos you clearly have a good understanding of what to look for in a good knife, so you'd probably be as qualified if not more qualified then real knife producers (burnley, banters, chris reeves) to design your own knife! Bet it goes out of stock before the week is over
I ended up getting the Ti/S35VN and Knife Center Exclusive Burlap Micarta versions. I absolutely love this knife! 10/10 for me. Tired of seeing flippers on everything. They annoy me on most knives. Button lock thumb stud is my preference on knives.
Seems like the ti s35vn is off the market now ;( Think I should get the model of pyrite shown in the video (stainless steel handle) or the ti bolster and micarta handle version? they're only 20 dollars apart anyways so price doesn't really have a say in my opinion
@@snarrot1258 I'm like the bolster version. Just something about a metal and micarta that I really like. Ti/S35VN is still available on Artisan Cutlery website

Hey MC, I’m looking at expanding my Spyderco collection, but stuck for choice on which of these three knives to get. The Sage 1 in Maxamet, the Native 5 in Maxamet, or the Manix 2 LW in SPY27? To be honest I would have gone for the Manix 2 in Maxamet, but it’s literally unavailable everywhere I’ve been looking here in the UK. Honest opinion on the above three, which would you prefer? 😊
On a good framelock it doesn't matter if you put some pressure on the lockbar while trying to deploy it, it won't affect the opening much. Framelock is also my favorite type of locking mechanism, could you tell? 😆
Ya I know. I just don't like it because it creates lock stick, and eventually lock rock/jam. They're fine but I much prefer some of the other locking systems on the market
Most frame locks I’ve handled have the detent strength issue depending on how tight you squeeze. Maybe it’s a problem with the large size of my hands. My gripping fingers always land directly all over the lock bar. That’s fine on a low budget knife, to keep the cost down. But not expensive knives, where they’re asking several hundred bucks but using the laziest cheapest lock and treating it like it’s a high end feature. Lol
@@metal_complex if done right that'll never happen unless you abuse the knife. But that would also apply to linerlocks then. But there's a lot of fun and interesting locking systems on the market now for sure! As with most things it just comes down to personal preference I guess, your "dislike" for most framelocks kinda matches my dislike for most linerlocks 😂 And regarding sticky locks, a lot of button lock knives seems to have a super sticky lock. But I've actually contacted one of my local knife dealers asking him to order these ones after your video. Always entertaining content man 👍
@@emersonb5764 I've rarely experienced it on anything but cheaper knives. I don't have huge hands but my fingers still land on the lock bar, I think it naturally does for most people. Regarding expensive knives, I don't know if I'd call framelocks lazy. It's just a good and reliable locking mechanism if done right, which it usually is if it's a high end knife. I've had more issues with other locking mechanisms even though I mainly get framelocks. But as previously mentioned, a lot has to do with personal preference.
