This was a an enjoyable shoot-fest with great sequences, some well-scripted tongue-in-cheek humour, and a plausible conspiracy story playing second fiddle. A ripping yarn from 70's America. One of the best B-Movies I've ever seen.
One of the three best movies of 1977, Rocky, Star Wars and The Gauntlet. The movie has a powerful scene which Sandra Locke's character, announces what she plans on doing, when she bets everything she has against the horse O'Mally No Show. But the entire movie is good.
One of Clint Eastwood's funniest and most underrated movies. Clint's deadpan sense of humor paired with Sondra Locke's cattiness made for a very entertaining, adrenaline-fueled movie. I found her a little annoying in Every Which Way But Loose, but she was hilarious here. Very underappreciated actress. You're missed.
Sondra Locke wasn't particularly the best actress but Clint carries the film well. Filmed in my then-hometown of Phoenix will real Phoenix PD cars and officers. Ahhh the 70's.
This is a bit underrated. "The Gauntlet" delivers what it promises and that is entertainment value. The humour actually doesn't intrude on the film's story, which is good. If other people on here say Sandra Locke can't act all that well, what does that say about her leading man??
I thought she was good as a college-educated prostitute who could figure stuff out quickly (i.e. that Shockley's superiors might be trying to kill them) and make a sleazy constable scream with anger.
@DubStylee His films became stale. He was making generic and imitation of his better films. Revitalize his career with Directing. That too been circling the drain for the last decade.
Sadly Clint died on 22/11/2023 RIP delayed official announcement to lessen his families early grieving before the mass hysteria of questions andstress involved just in love would be overwhelming.
Me too man, frazetta is a legend! Now I’m going to watch the whole movie just because if that poster. I love Clint Eastwood, old 70s pulp action and Frank Frazetta so this is making me excited
If you have not seen the original movie poster for THE GAUNTLET check it out. It was drawn by the famous comic and fantasy artist Frank Frazetta, Clint looks like a barbarian Conan with a magnum and Sondra Locke is clinging onto him like a barbarian princess in jeans. :D
Well this is not one of Clint's best movies but i liked that.I like very much movies with deserts, small motel rooms, bike and helicopter chases but especially the helicopter chase was bad.
When he drives the bus through the gauntlet the positioning of the cops doesn't make any sense. They're shooting at the bus from both sides of the street and the cops themselves would have been shot to hell by their buddies !
I agree. Sondra was his girlfriend, so he gave her the job. I hope she was better at the OTHER job. I assume she was until he dumped her for a much better woman.
Here after learning Tom Cruise is going to star in a remake of this movie I remember watching this so long ago. Cruise should be able to make this an action movie worth watching with all of the advances in movie technology
No, Dirty Harry was actually kind of a decent guy compared to the total jerk this character was, and Eastwood almost seemed to relish being this dumb ass cop slapping women around and what now??
Back then? Trailers now are so much worse. They make a film look like it's one thing when it's a completely different animal when watched. At least that one explained what the film was actually about.
What's the matter with you man? This is a bus! I don't give a dam if it's The Queen Elizabeth, get your hand away from that lever! Haha Good Ol' Clint!
Also (yeah, I know it WAS a law at the time but still...) Did Sondra Locke's character really deserve to be arrested and imprisoned for being a prostitute? Or was her offense for instance and charge more than "just" being it and getting found out? And also. So prostitution may be illegal but say pornography isn't - is that not a hypocritical double standard or...? And on top of all that. In this movie she became the target of assassination... My God.
horizonatally opposed engines are trash; the Wright Brothers needed wind and trashed thr engines. afterward, NOT UNTIL the ENGINE became AN "inLine 4 and inLINE 5 cylinder" O.H.C. and .D.O.H.C. would there have been ONE worth the price in ANY escort . before 1992, KNOWN that since 1988.
Worst Eastwood movie ever, Not to mention those hundreds of guns were shooting at each other across both sides of the street. Don't worry about stray bullets they are actually across from each other shooting at one another.
I Can Watch All Clint Eastwood Movies A Thousand Times And Never Get Bored He's The Best Actor 👍
Clint Eastwood and sondra lock are great in this film he did a lot of good films in the 70s
This was a an enjoyable shoot-fest with great sequences, some well-scripted tongue-in-cheek humour, and a plausible conspiracy story playing second fiddle. A ripping yarn from 70's America. One of the best B-Movies I've ever seen.
Looks like a B Movie by todays standards but was in the top 15 highest grossing movies for the year 1977
Reboot with Tom Cruise 🤳
One of the three best movies of 1977, Rocky, Star Wars and The Gauntlet.

Casey Kasem Voicing The 1977 action flick!
Zoinks!!
Wow, that's news to me!
“And now, back to the countdown!”

Classic 70's grit. 👌
Best movie.. so engaging..client rocks...from India with loads of love to Eastwood
I take my hat off to the pilot who flew the yellow Gazelle during the bike chase sequence, that's some great flying right there.
R.I.P Sondra Locke
R.I.P. SONDRA LOCKE
You got this Tom cruise 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Sondra Locke wasn't particularly the best actress but Clint carries the film well. Filmed in my then-hometown of Phoenix will real Phoenix PD cars and officers. Ahhh the 70's.
RIP Sondra Locke.

Is that Casey Kasem as the narrator?
Sure sounds like him.
That’s Casey Kasem all right.
@@AldenRDavis nice! 😉👍
Shaggy himself
Ms. Locke was such a doll.
Sadly Clint died on 22/11/2023 RIP
delayed official announcement to lessen his families early grieving before the mass hysteria of questions andstress involved just in love would be overwhelming.
You think Clint Eastwood is dead?
He is directing a movie right now what are you talking about lil fella? 😂
I'm here because of frank frazetta poster painting.
Me too man, frazetta is a legend! Now I’m going to watch the whole movie just because if that poster. I love Clint Eastwood, old 70s pulp action and Frank Frazetta so this is making me excited
This movie sets the record for the number of "Squibs" used in a single production. Even more than "Saving Private Ryan"!
Anyone else thinking Clint was ahead of his time and the vigilante is coming soon to the USA in massive numbers??
If you have not seen the original movie poster for THE GAUNTLET check it out. It was drawn by the famous comic and fantasy artist Frank Frazetta, Clint looks like a barbarian Conan with a magnum and Sondra Locke is clinging onto him like a barbarian princess in jeans. :D
The original soundtrack on vinyl is the same artwork. It’s great!
It was filmed in phoenix Arizona
Was wondering who drew it. It's amazing 👍
So Bruce Willis was Clint and Mos Def was ... Sondra in the movie "16 Blocks"?
👀
leeluv96 Pretty much yeah.
Yep and some of terminator 2 mixed in.
@@JoeBuck207 One of my favorite movies.
Like a Quinn-Martin production!
Well this is not one of Clint's best movies but i liked that.I like very much movies with deserts, small motel rooms, bike and helicopter chases but especially the helicopter chase was bad.
That's Casey Casem's voice at the beginning as the narrator, right?
Yes
When he drives the bus through the gauntlet the positioning of the cops doesn't make any sense. They're shooting at the bus from both sides of the street and the cops themselves would have been shot to hell by their buddies !
Another mistake that took place.
There is a way for them to shoot one another. YOU just didn't factor speed into your equation. Speed is VARIABLE. 👀🤦
I mean
If they all are aiming for the bus then its possible, but I thought the same thing.
Only in the movies
VOTING 2024!
RIP Sondra Locke
I agree. Sondra was his girlfriend, so he gave her the job. I hope she was better at the OTHER job. I assume she was until he dumped her for a much better woman.
she reminded me of bambi, but good looking lady
Totally realistic plot. 50 million bullets and not a problem.
Great movie
I can't help but feel this film tells us something about America's ongoing relationship with metal tools which can kill from a distance.
My favorite Dirty Harry movie.
So many guns and no safe spaces, it’s like a lefties nightmare!
Here after learning Tom Cruise is going to star in a remake of this movie I remember watching this so long ago. Cruise should be able to make this an action movie worth watching with all of the advances in movie technology
Classic movie 🎥
Tom Cruise is remaking this. Hopefully he does it well
Underrated movie of clit westwood...
I've always thought that this was a part of the Dirty Harry series
I have often thought that it COULD have been.
Dirty Harry was a better cop.
@@doctorpretorious9911 yes Shockley could be as good If he wasn't an alkie
No, Dirty Harry was actually kind of a decent guy compared to the total jerk this character was, and Eastwood almost seemed to relish being this dumb ass cop slapping women around and what now??
Is The Gountlet the only Eastwood movie with a fight in a couch or bus at the end?
yes
I like this movie
Trailers were all over the place back then
Back then? Trailers now are so much worse. They make a film look like it's one thing when it's a completely different animal when watched. At least that one explained what the film was actually about.
That's dome heavy 🫵💩
so what, Southwest, went from buses to airplanes?
Shockley? I thought this was a Dirty Harry movie!
What's the matter with you man? This is a bus!
I don't give a dam if it's The Queen Elizabeth, get your hand away from that lever!
Haha Good Ol' Clint!
Don’t be mistaken by the title
Much like the video game Gauntlet
Red Valkryie is about to die
Cool bus
Once is enough for this one...

Commissioner Blakelock was played by George Macready not William Prince. I don't care what the credits say. Just saying!?
Impossible.. George Macready died in 1973 and The Gaunlet was filmed in 1977.
Funny this film.... a time when men were men not sissys and women knew they're place 😂🤣🤣👊
*Their
Not Blake Nordstrom
damn, a lot of spoilers in here XD
So could have been a dirty harry movie
Rated R

Man that was unrealistic good God 😂
But fun too watch movie nonetheless- Watch it!
With the cops occupied, it would be a great opportunity to rob a bank or a jewelry store.
I outlawed colored dog food. you are only allowed to buy brown dog feed. follow the rules.
Nordstrom
Clint Eastwood has terrible taste in women. Sondra Locke was a dog who played him for a fool.
watching this rubbish was worse than running a gauntlet
He certainly didn't hold a gun to my head and I enjoyed this movie a lot!
@@joel8583 I enjoyed the movie too! Especially the music.I finally caught up to the soundtrack which I have in my cd collection.

Dumb person alert..
