I got a set of Eye 2s for my wife. I’m going to miss her.
Played the Eye 2 Brylium Copper Clubs from 1981 until 2018. Reshafted them twice. The feel of this game improvment club is still unrivaled. I'm 68 & played from a 8 to 10 handicap most of my life.

My wife bought theses set of irons 2 -lob wedge for me as a wedding present in 1990 when we married and I am still playing with them today and we are still marriage as well tend to keep quality items for a long time 😎😎

I'm playing these bad boys in 2020. Love them. I get made fun of by "the boys" all the time for them being so old, but i still hit my irons truer and futher than they do. They are as old as I am and still work great. I have the matching putter too, which is fantastic. Cheers for the great review :)
I’ve got a set of titleist AP1s and borrowed the ping eyes from my old man cause he doesn’t play golf anymore. Mate the ping eyes are soooo good
I have a group of buddies that play vintage ping clubs. I only have ISI’s but my buddies have eye 2’s and more. Balls and drivers have changed quite a bit since they were new but unless you need some crazy distance irons there’s no reason not to play them.

Awesome review. I've played Eye 2 clubs for over 30 years. I've tried 5 other sets of clubs, Ping and Mizuno irons, but always go back to Eye 2 irons. I go back to them, because I score lower, not by much but noticeable. My original Eye 2 irons were getting worn. Groves on wedges a bit rounded and of course many rock dings. Bought another set off of Ebay that still had the original grips and still had the white paint in the lettering. Had them custom fit. Just shot 69 with them. I think I'm for life now.
The Eye2 and the Anser putter were game changers for sure.

As a tour professional myself I went from the Ben Hogan Medallion irons in 1978 to the e y e 2 Plus in 1990 currently I play the Titleist 200 I received three years ago and even though I love these I go back to my ping I2 Plus periodically just to get my tempo back for me it's more of an aide to get balance back in confidence just thought I'd let you know that you're doing a good job doing a good job in your videos also

God I’d love them to do a 30 year anniversary run of these. I know that kind of misses the point but I’d buy them in a heartbeat. I had them in ‘86. Happily have them again.

I emailed Ping and they asked me to send the whole set of irons back to fix the one club and they refurbished all of the them!!!! They now look like new! How good is that Customer Service!

I purchased a set of Ping ISI stainless in 1998, the year they were introduced. I was 51 years old and returning to golf after many years of absence. The set was 5 through Lob, and I credit those clubs for getting me back into golf successfully. I played those clubs until just 4 years ago. They had the steel JZ shafts with cushin. I only replaced them because I was getting "golf elbow" issues on my left arm so I purchased a set of Mizuno JPX 900 hot metal ( which you tested and liked). The Mizuno's have carbon shafts and seem to weigh about half of the Pings. I have never hit the Mizuno as well as I did the Pings, and seem to suffer from a significant distance loss with the Mizuno clubs. I'm sure part of the distance issue is that I am now 73, but I also think that the forgivability of the Pings, and the additional weight in the head actually assisted with a more pure shot with the irons. I still have those Pings and I intend to get them back out on the course and compare the distances. I am a pretty high handicapper in my old age, a 22, and like all of us do tend to suffer from inconsistencies in my swing. However watching your videos has always helped me return to a baseline swing after drifting off into Charles Barkley land. Thank you for this review and I hope during your Classic series you can find some ISI's to hit.
Bought eye 2’s new back in the 80’s. Then experimenting over the years with at least 20 different sets, several pings, titleist,, etc. just came full circle back and bought a 3-SW matching serial number set Eye 2+ with zz lite shafts for $150. They were the revolutionary club that changed the entire iron market, and still work great today. Amazing feat of engineering to stand the test of time as well as they do.
I’ve bought and sold dozens of sets of irons over my lifetime but my set of BeCu Eye 2 irons will never leave me. Great review.
Custom ordered my green dot zz lite ping eye 2s in 1989. Since then I've had the eye 3+s, i20s and ie1's. I've gone back to playing the eye2s. The feel and flight of a well struck shot is amazing.

I still play the eye 2+ - one standard set for home and one beryllium set for away. Both black dot. Great clubs. Great conversation starters when I meet other golfers and they see my irons.
To me, the gem of the line was the Eye2+, slightly stronger lofts, but a cambered sole from front to back made the club less diggy.
Karsten Solheim revolutionized golf first with the Anser putter and next with the Eye 2 iron. Those irons are amazing for the time and still hold up today.
Also remember watching Mark Calcaveccia in a US open spin an eye two wedge back 30 feet from heavy rough. They tore up the balata. Similar to what the Callaway Mack Daddy grooves did in circa 2007-2009.
Found a complete set of these at a goodwill for $8 great find! Great clubs!
I worked for goodwill briefly and they had totes in the warehouse full of clubs they would send to recycling. I scored quite a few full sets for $1/club. Sold quite a few but still have 3 sets of Eye 2, a set of Karstens, A set of Tommy Armour 845s, 2000 Top Flite Tour, and a set of Callaway X12 irons. Now I just need time to get out and use them.
I’ve been collecting irons during Covid. I’m blue dot according to my wrist length to the ground and height. I paid $70 2-w. Grips great. Took them to the range, and I have to say, I’m going to play these. My TM P790s are great. These are also.
One of my all-time favorite videos on RUclips. Love watching you hit the Eye 2's and your reaction to how they feel is awesome. Makes me want to pull out my set and put them in the bag. Yeah, got to do that right now. Comparing the Eye 2's to newer tech would be a video you could do every year when the newer stuff comes out. Anyway, thanks for this video Mark.

Ping eye 2 with a Chromesoft. Feels like a forged iron. Unbelievable really with great distance control. Totally worth having them.
I've played all sorts of pings going back to the early '90s. I didn't live too far from the ping factory. I currently have ping i 200s. but I have a ping i2 4 iron. with the offset I just crush that club. a buddy of mine gave me his ping i2 pluses from like the early '90s. I'm going to reshaft them and game them. I can't believe 40-year-old irons give me more confidence than modern day clubs.

Great video Mark, I really enjoyed the walk down memory lane. I've had my Ping Eye 2 (red dot) since 1989, and would never get rid of them. I agree, they were so forgiving and ahead of their time. I'm going to un-retire them for a round to see if they've still got it.

@@2DRINKSMINIMUM They were as I remembered and better than I'd expected in comparison to my 2021 clubs. They're now making up a set of Sunday clubs along with some 1980's Ping Woods.
I still have my dads set of beryllium copper ping eye 2’s.. had some fun with them and still look great
I play the Ping G irons along with the Eye 2 lob and sand wedge. Like you said, purely functional. Approach shots give lots of confidence along with bunker shots. Chips around the green can sometimes pose a problem (for me).
I learned to play golf on a complete gifted set of these and they play amazing. Still using them in 23'
When I got my ping zing 2’s, I sent them to get the lie changed. Class!!!

They probably don't suit your eye, but would love to see the Ping Zing 2's and/or ISI compared too.
I have a set of Titleist 714 ap2 and a set of Ping Eye 2 Plus 3-Lob wedge. My Son started to play golf so I let him use my Pings. I was jealous....I went on Ebay found a very nice set and gave it to my Son. I wanted my original Pings back. The ones that made me love golf...
My first set of clubs was a set of Ping Eye 2s. I took them to Ping a while back, and had them change the lie angle to my swing fitting, regripped them, and cleaned them all up including new paint on numbers, white bottom groove, and Ping's exclusive lie eagle color. They look brand new. The repair shop at Ping told me these clubs were introduced in the 80s.
The Eye 2+ irons look virtually identical to the Eye 2 irons but have slightly stronger lofts. I think that is what you referred to as the “cross”. Great review and a real “eye” opener. Those clubs can hold their own with today’s clubs.
I've just bought a set of ping i3 o-size 4-SW for £50 and re-gripped them myself. So full cost is £80. I've got a set of modern clubs but wanted a set of theses for ages love the look. Gonna take them for a fit 👌⛳
My Bag - I’m still playing the Ping KARSTEN II Irons - Shaft is Ping AWT - R … that I bought from Wayne Warms, Pro at Manasquan River Golf Club/NJ in the Summer of 1979. These Ping Irons came before the Ping Eye 2 Irons. I’ve yet to find Irons that out perform these classic Ping Irons. Back in those days I was hitting the 5-Iron about 205 Yds. Made is USA!
I played 45 holes this weekend with these irons. 3-9 with all 3 wedges. I hit fckin darts. They do go less distance than modern higher lofted irons. Every time I put one down I felt confidant. Thats all you need in golf. Go get modern drivers and fairway woods & Ping eye2s and shred a golf course.
Put my ping eye 2 + in the bag today for 9 holes. Played well with them so I think they will stay in the bag. Love the wedge grind as you can open them up and are great in the bunkers.
Original eye 2 have weaker lofts and too much of a difference between them. Eye 2+ are still great and are idea for begineers also.
A few years ago I sent a set of Eye 2's back to Ping to be reshafted. When they sent them they got lost. After a couple of months they finally arrived and they didn't charge me a penny. I didn't have them refinished but they cleaned them up and repainted the lettering and they looked almost new. I've always liked Ping although I'm playing with another brand at the moment.
When I started playing as a junior in 1985-ish, I used to see the adult members with these and was so jealous. A couple of years ago, I bought a set of PING EYE2 BeCu - 3 to LW - along with EYE2 1, 3 and 5 woods. They’re even in an 80s PING cart bag with a BeCu B60 putter and PING EYE golf ball! Treated them as a bit of an ornament to date, but this has spurred me on to get them out on the course. Great stuff, Mark. 👍🏻
PING are still the best OEM in the game from an engineering and innovation perspective. Combine that with their honesty about performance and technology and you can't not like what they're about.

Mark, I’m .older than you . I reside in USA 🇺🇸. Long history with playing Ping irons.
Have owned original Ping Eye 2 since 1984. Got them as a junior in high school.
Owned Eye 2 plus (+) model in cavity since 1991.
They also had a Eye 2 plus (+) no plus available when the litigation was occurring.
Change in the plus model was scalloped sole, more noticed in wedges, and stronger lofts as well as visually a more appealing club head.
Shafts available were steel ZZ lite which was comparable to a a True Temper Dynamic.
JZ shaft was heavier and had more flex. Precision made the micro taper shaft for the BeCu Beryllium Copper irons.
The coppers would swingweight in the C range ... weight of copper material, thus required a different shaft .
Karsten was quoted as saying he believed in shafts “ lighted and stiffest available was key for accuracy”
. Pings certainly hit them high and straight .
When you sent clubs back during groove controversy era, they would make a pinhole mark in the eye part of cavity to identify they are now conforming or acceptable. Send them back to consumer often refurbished - retumbled to look brand new. No cost to consumers .
Getting lie angles changed if not original owner was $4 a club plus shipping but again, your clubs often came back looking new or better then you sent them to Ping.
Grips were pricier ($7 per club but they had grip codes , colors and would make them the proper size desired with OEM items)
FYI.. copper clubs that players would try to clean with Coca Cola would cause problems to shafts , pitting and acid breakdown to shaft. Ping would replace and refurbish one time for free . A nice note included in box on suggestions of soap and water preferred for future cleanings.
Such an outstanding family business. Enthusiastic golfer( Karsten ) who only wanted to assist the masses to play better. Karsten himself was an 18 handicap player for most of his playing days.

Yep definitely I can remember at school in the late 80's, this was the club all us junior golfer's wanted, it set me on my ping journey eye2, zing 2, isik, g5, s58, and currently which I can't see me changing ie1, plus other brands through out the years, wish I'd kept my old pings especially my s58, ping really were and are the game changers in the industry
I have a set of Eye2 originals, my late Dad’s irons, I also had the Eye2+ as an eighteenth birthday present in 1988, went to Ping in Gainsborough and hit in a bay between Sam Torrance and Bill Langmuir, what a day it was.
Bought a matched set of the Eye 2 + irons last year as a keeper for future generations. Using them as my regular set now. The feel is awesome. Great set of “bats”!!!
Bought a full iron set of these, newly gripped, i1 to sw, in a thrift shop for 400 SEK~£40. They’re just pure fun, now I am contemplating to get new shafts ...and get lies/loft checked. Brilliant clubs
This inspired me to pull my old Tommy Armour 845's out of the garage today. Another great set of irons vintage 1980's - 1990's. Hit like a dream. Long and straight.
So so much agree. They are fun to hit. I have my late father-in-law’s eye2 Lob wedge and it has been the only lob wedge in any of my sets.
the golf balls is so good today, it makes these old clubs viable.
I remember as a Junior my dad brining these home and giving me them. Not sure who was more happy 😃
Got them out 2 years ago and was hooked. Still playing now off 6. No intention of getting rid of them 🤪
Got a set red + with 1" longer shafts for £40 last week. Simply, awesome clubs .I'm done looking for anything else. These will do me till I end up in a pine box. Brilliant review, as always Mark.

My father bought a complete set with the persimmon woods and a tour bag when they first came out. He used to crush them. He actually went back and bought the 1 iron as well. Unbelievable clubs.
I game a set of eye 2 white dot, +1/4 over standard 1-sw to this day Mark.
Best irons ever made
Just picked up in a charity auction a beautiful set of Wilson Staff Progressive irons 3-SW from the mid 90's. They look in totally original condition complete with Wilson wrap grips still tacky and undamaged. I can find very little about them and no reviews anywhere. Looking at the specs 1 to 7 were cavity back with 8 to SW being blades. Can't wait to get out and try them. And the best part is they cost £30.
I play Ping Zing copper beryllium and also have a set of Lynx Parallax in copper beryllium (BECU). Lynx were made in 1988 and the Zings are 1995 models. I love the BECU irons, the feel is one you just cannot get from steel. The closest to feel might be the Tommy Armour T100 all titanium irons. Also had a set of those but they did not compare to the Lynx or Zings for accuracy. It might be that both my BECU sets are 2 degrees flat. Thanks for a most entertaining video.

Always had shiny silver irons, taylormade rac. Titleist dci. Until three years ago when I bought ping G's. That gun metal dull look and chunky head took a wee bit of getting used to, but the feel and control is hard to beat. I have just switched back to shiny titleist Ap1's, but I will never forget my brief affair with the solid pings. Great clubs.
My uncle bought these brand new in the 80's. For some reason he convinced himself he could not hit with them, and sold them to me at 1/2 price. Been hitting with them for over 30 years. Just had them polished and re-gripped and they are as good as new. Meat and potatoes. Love my Ping Eye 2s
Still have a set of these from 1 iron to lob wedge. I still use the wedge, SW, LW as they're just timeless and get the job done. I also find that the newer wedges just don't travel as far even though the newer grooves do help a lot with checking your chips.
I bought a set of Ping Irons eye 2 at a budget store. For twenty dollars. What a score. They do have the x on them. I they are so goooood!!!. Put on new grips and it made a Big difference.(Golf Pride).
I just put my BuCo Ping Eye 2s back in the back. Can't believe I ever stopped playing them. Nothing feels like these clubs.

Just bought a full set of these 3 - SW re gripped with golf pride tour grips for £90! They will go straight into the bag for a comp next week. I had a set of ping zing 2 25 years ago, so come full circle. Love the video Mark

Gone to other sets over the years but have always come back to these
The Ping Eye and Ping Eye 2 changed everything. It was the first popular cast club. It had U grooves. It had different lie angles. It had perimeter weighting. The Ping Eye was the cutting edge, but the Eye 2 really revolutionized iron play.
There haven't been too many advances since then. Hogan Edge was the first forged cavity back. Other advances: multi-metal, speed grooves (high COR faces), and single-length irons. That's about it.
I am putting set of Eye 2’s back in my bag. Played them from 13 until 32 ish. 40 now and haven’t found anything better. Eye 2 are forgiving enough and very accurate.
I play the ping eye 2. Without question it's the best iron I ever hit...
Still have my set in the garage for when I have mates come to stay, but every now and then I throw a couple in the bag. Still a joy to hit
Got these when they first came out, my grandson plays them now and they still look brand new. Now I play G425’s. The eye2 has a weaker loft throughout but almost still keep up. WY ahead of their time .
Just bought a set from 5 down to SW, a ping ISI driver and two Taylor made burners for £20. Thinking might be deal of the week! Thanks for the great vid and for confirming I made a good choice! Glad I now own a set!

I remember the first time I set an eye2 down it looked huge. It looked like I couldnt miss. I have 2 sets of eye2's. My favorite set is so old it says "Patent Pending" on the back. I have 1-SW plus a copper L wedge. Lots of pros had those old square groove wedges in their bags. These irons are not worth much anymore.
Ping eye maple blond woods, ping eye2 3 to SW irons, ping anser 2 putter. 28 handicap, shot 49 stableford points, 1991. Most enjoyable round of my life!
Ping Canada will adjust them for free. Just $25 to ship. The wedge in the original Eye 2 is 50.5° loft! I have used 3 sets. Copper was prettiest. Copper + set was awesome. I just hit them too high or I would still be using either these or the Zing 2s. Switched back to blades from my Zing 2s last fall.
Still have an Eye 2 1 iron which comes out occasionally depending on wind conditions, swapped out i3 blades (fitted in 2000/2001) in November 19 for the i210s, awesome clubs and brand !
I played Ping Eye 2 irons throughout the 90s. Great irons! I bought them and had them custom fit by Ping in Phoenix. Great people to work with! I saw John Daly playing them and had to get a set. Wish I still owned them!
These were my first full set of clubs. Bought second hand and I loved them. Eventually replaced them with Callaway x14 pro-series which at the time, I thought were MILES better than the Ping. But now I wonder if that was really true 🤔. Actually, what am I saying? They were called “Pro-Series”. Of course they were better! 😂
I just bought a set off marketplace a couple weeks ago...2 - SW orange dot in perfect condition for $50...they are the originals from 82 - 84 with the upside down Karsten logo on the backside...Installed a new set of Karma Jumbo grips ($22 on amazon) took them to the course yesterday and shot 45 with 6 three putts after having not played a single round of golf in three years...I'm happy with that and love my new Pings...btw I had to use my playing partners putter...I left mine home...also a Ping (BeCu Pal 2 in perfect condition) purchased at goodwill for $3
Bought mine used in 1995, have regripped them 4 times and still hit them well. Moved to the i500 in 2019 and gained nearly 30 yards per club but still love my Eye2s
I have a set in my garage that we’re my uncles, then dads and that is what I learned to play with. Love them, classic clubs.
I remember people going on holiday to Florida to bring bags of these back from the states! Even rubbing them in the dirt to make them look used so you didn’t have to pay the import duty lol!

The shafts in your set look like ZZ Lites, the precursor to the ZZ-65. They’re stiff in flex.

My club pro says ping are an engineering company that sell golf clubs, others are marketing companies that make clubs .. I had an ongoing issue with some ping irons, Ping after repairing the clubs previously to there credit have replaced the set at no charge, top customer service👍
Just Bought a second hand set of Ping I10’s 3 - W £107 and being over 6ft 3 came with stiff longer shafts yellow dot absolute bargain you’re so right Mark 🏌️♂️⛳️
Got a set of eye2+ becu stuiff zz shafts in near mint condition in the store room, might get them out after this.
