- If you're looking to upcycle successfully then you need to train yourself to recognise items that could be repurposed. I like to sometimes play a 'game' with myself... choosing something off of the thrift store shelf and not moving on until I come up with three possible ideas of how it could be used... other than its original purpose.
This doesn't necessarily mean I buy that item... none of the ideas may be marketable in my area, they may require skills and materials beyond my capability or that price it out of the saleable price point... but it's meant to stretch my thinking. Challenging yourself this way helps you to learn to 'see' the possibilities in an item faster in future.
Give it a try! for this wooden paper towel holder I had a number of different ideas which made it a perfect addition to my thrifted 'stash' of items. This idea was not one of those original ideas but, rather, one that came to me when I had spools of twine rolling around on my craft table. sometimes that's how inspiration strikes, but if I hadn't had the initial ideas and seen the potential in the holder in the first place... I wouldn't have had it on hand to implement the 'new' idea when the thought came to me.

Very clever and very cute!
Thank you! 😊
Cute! You could put twine on both sides, to balance the weight. You are always so artistic and clever!
Absolutely!! To balance the weight and give more storage!!!

Thank you! 😊
This is awesome, will come in handy for several items.
Definitely! I use twine and jute a lot but you could swap them out for anything on a spool!
Really cute. You could actually add more on the back side as well.
Yes, absolutely!
