The fact that Michael Mann (the director of Heat and Collateral) has this as one of his favorite movies is like if Christopher Nolan liked the Emoji Movie.
As a latino from and in latinoamerica, idk if the "latinx" was ironic or not, but it sure did trigger me, if you wanna say an inclusive version at least use "latine" or "latin@" which are the ones inclusive spanish speakers use, if it was for triggering purposes, keep doing it, it worked
15:38 There was definitely foreshadowing of Guy Gagne's narcissism, like when he tells the cameras at the press conference to focus on 'just him'. I remember seeing that and then the twist (that he just wants Turbo to race so he can bring even more publicity to Gagne's eventual victory) didn't get me at all :/
I personally don’t mind the movie, I enjoyed it actually. Though, that may just be my autistic brain being entertained by anything that even remotely interests me.
I see this movie as an alternate form of Ratatouille but the human-animal duo is a food truck guy and snail instead of a French chef and a rat. But I did think the plot turned out very differently and the store owners were already co-existing with their pet snails to oppose what happened to the rats that stole from the kitchen(that scene scarred me as a kid)
I thought it was a joke. Then I realized they were being serious. "Proud member of the Latinx community", yeah, while using the word that's been, you know, universally despised by most actual Latino people? That straight up doesn't even really work in their language because there's no real alphabet in their language for X? Real shining member.
Tbf they're being pretentious on purpose for the bit so maybe it's part of the joke? Specially since they are not even using it to describe an individual half of the times but the community in general lol
I remember there was a turbo promotion with a ham company in my country And so when i went to kindergarden and i told my friend that my mom bought "turbo ham" he started crying-
At first I thought they were using it ironically because of the voice. Then I legit started questioning "Wait they're not seriously actually unironically using that, right?.....I seriously hope not." Because, for a "proud" member of the "Latinx community", it's rather tone deaf if not arrogantly ignorant to not ONLY ignore the fact that most actual Latino people despise that word, it also just doesn't really work in their language due to the way it's structured in its vocals. There's no real word or alphabet for the "X" at the end of the word no matter how you pronounce, it just doesn't exist in their lingo.

I thought I was the only person on the planet who remembered that Turbo cartoon. It was the first Netflix original show I ever remember seeing, and yet once it ended it seemed like they removed it immediately. I thought it fell off the face of the earth.
I never heard of this movie before (or maybe I blocked the memories) but the snail getting super speed (and headbeams and taillights) from falling into the nitrous of a ricer is actually a very clever backstory.
Turbo holds a special place in my mind, despite the movie's somewhat infamous status when it came out. This was one of the last movies I saw with my grandpa before he was lost to dementia. He used to race cars and loved driving, and I love animated movies, so our grandmother thought it'd be great for us to all go see it. Whenever I see or hear mention of this movie, I think of him. I couldnt hold it in anymore when he said its for literal INFANTS. 😂
He seemingly loathes Cars 2 with a passion, even dissing it at times where it doesn't even make sense, so I get the feeling he just goes for the popular opinion and hates most things.
I remember watching the TV show a lot when I was younger, though I don't remember a lot of details. All the episodes usually consisted of introduced a rival for Turbo to face at the end. I remember one episode centered around spicy food, one where we see Whiplash's backstory, one where Chet gets into a love triangle, and one where every rival including the movie twist villain races him.
Also, I know it was a joke segment, but every time Quinnamon said "Latinx" it hurt my soul. Along with all the taco commentary.
As a person of latinx community, every time someone says latinx my brain hurts slightly
So do you use the word latinx just say Latino ffs! People that use that word are so annoying af!
I'll never take anyone seriously if they are using "Latin-X" unironically.
He's being sarcastic when he says "latinx," dw
It... It wasn't unironically...
>says the movie is bad
>only points out every single thing that makes it an actually decent one
I was a huge fan of the movie Wreck-It Ralph back in the day (still am, one of my favorite movies of all time) and I remember watching the teaser for this movie and it showed a bunch of cars racing and then the logo and I thought that it was gonna be like a prequel about Turbo from Wreck-It Ralph’s origins as a kart racing character. Then it showed the snail and I was shocked. Got super hyped for this movie and for a good several years it was one of my absolute favorites and I still have a soft spot for it.
Wreck-it-Ralph is still my favorite movie of all time
My sister was at the dentist once and they were playing this movie for some reason. She had the nitrous on and was a little loopy. She was convinced this movie was called Snails.
Shocked you didn't mention that in Turbo Fast, Skidmark's VA was Amir aka Alastor from Hazbin instead of Ben like it was in the movie.
i will never recover from this

I was obsessed with this movie when I was in elementary school and watched its spin-off show on Netflix. Surprised it didn’t age well with everyone.
I actually grew up with both the film and show, and I do rewatch the movie at times, not as good as I remember, but I still have found memories
The Cosmordo reference took me back to when I first discovered he was a groomer 😢
P.S I don't know how to spell his name lol
Same. He was the first time I experienced a creator I liked to watch come out as a groomer which still stings to this day
I actually liked this film. There was no big world ending threat, just a really weird story. The cartoon series was good too.
Turbo is actually an underrated gem and in fact KINO in film that filtered millions

I will admit as a kid I asked my parents several times to see this movie, and they’d either say nothing and dodge it or tell me it wasn’t showing anymore. When I finally did see it, I liked it. Sure it was nothing special compared to other movies I’d seen, but it was a decent movie. But the NEFLIX SERIES- I loved that show so much! The Turbo, Home, and Croods shows were my shit.

What's funny is that this is the exact same plot as Disney's 2013 originally straight to video turned theatrical release, Planes

14:02 I worked nigtt shift at Walmart when Turbo was new. This song was on the DVD menu screen. For weeks, I could hear it off in the distance, on repeat all night.

Idk why, but at 6:02 when ‘The Boys’ is said, I just cracked up laughing.
15:38 There was definitely foreshadowing of Guy Gagne's narcissism, like when he tells the cameras at the press conference to focus on 'just him'. I remember seeing that and then the twist (that he just wants Turbo to race so he can bring even more publicity to Gagne's eventual victory) didn't get me at all :/
This wonderful retrospective puts Schaffrillas ranking to shame.

I’m pretty sure the joke is that it’s a word that latinos hate
Either that or they’re just a racist but I’m hoping it’s the first
I thought it was a joke.
I remember there was a turbo promotion with a ham company in my country
And so when i went to kindergarden and i told my friend that my mom bought "turbo ham" he started crying-
“lAten X”💀💀😭
The worst thing Latino people can hear
What’s really upsetting is using the term “latinx” instead of “latine”
Fr
At first I thought they were using it ironically because of the voice.
Then I legit started questioning "Wait they're not seriously actually unironically using that, right?.....I seriously hope not."
Because, for a "proud" member of the "Latinx community", it's rather tone deaf if not arrogantly ignorant to not ONLY ignore the fact that most actual Latino people despise that word, it also just doesn't really work in their language due to the way it's structured in its vocals. There's no real word or alphabet for the "X" at the end of the word no matter how you pronounce, it just doesn't exist in their lingo.

Fun fact Turbo F.A.S.T has atleast one episode where KEVIN CONROY voices a Batman parody
I bet most of the budget of this movie went to getting Ryan Reynolds.

So it warms my heart hearing how people are talking about it now.
I have conditioned myself to either call this Ryan Reynolds Snail movie, or quote the Wholesome meme when referring to Turbo
