    Weird/interesting thing about the 105 and 115; they come with a 87 degree side bevel. I've skied the 115 and was not expecting that much edge hold from a ski that wide

    Nice review guys, been waiting on this one! Curious how this ski compares to the Sender 106 Ti+, Kore 105, and new Enforcer 104

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  5 месяцев назад +1

      Closest to the Kore 105 in that grouping, I'd say. Sender 106 Ti+ and Enforcer 104 are both heavier, stronger skis overall, particularly noticeable in the shovel and how the skis engage. Kore isn't as good in soft snow as the Maverick, IMO, but it's in a similar league in terms of quickness, versatility, etc.

    Are there any changes to the Maverick 95? AND also how would you say the Maverick line compares to the old Vantage series? I’ll be coming off my vantage 95 TI. And while I think it’s a perfectly fine ski, It definitely didn’t suit me. It’s definitely the right category of ski (mid 90 all mountain) But I just found it so sluggish to try and get carving. From what I gather the Maverick is quite a departure from what the vantage was. Is it maybe a bit mor lively from edge to edge? While still staying in the mid 90’s range.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  29 дней назад +1

      No changes to the 95 for 2025. They compare favorably to the Vantage series which I never really liked. Still light and agile for a ski with two sheets of metal and very precise, but more composed and natural feeling than the Vantage. If you're looking for a mid-90 with great energy, I also highly recommend the Black Crows Serpo.

    • @optiwlk

      @@SkiEssentials thanks for the reply. How would you say the maverick hold up compared to an enforcer in high performance pist skiing(carving)? I would ask how does it compare to the bonafide but I know there is no ski that compares to the Bonafide in that category.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  28 дней назад

      @@optiwlk The Enforcer is way closer to the Bonafide than the Maverick when it comes to high speed carving and stability. Maverick is more of a precise carving tool because it's lighter and more agile, but for solid edge grip and power, the Enforcer has the heft to stand up to some very aggressive skiing.

      @@SkiEssentials and lets say if i hade to go with an atomic ski (which might be my situation this winter). What will be the closest option to something like a bona fide or enforcer? Or should I just give up on the notion of having something like that and go in a different direction, something like a bent 100

  • @andrewwilson2085

    Really excited by atomic’s updates for next year overall. Have you guys been on the new backlands much? Would love to know if the updates have made the 102 and 109 move more towards a 50/50 ski or more towards pure touring. That 109 top sheet is sick

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  5 месяцев назад +1

      Less than the new Mavericks and new Bents, but yes! We've been on them a good amount. I talk about it a bit in our trip recap video from earlier in the season: ruclips.net/video/bF1Kc40c_qs/видео.html
      The biggest difference I felt (mostly 109 vs 107) was an increase in fun-factor, soft snow performance, float, etc. It doesn't feel as chargy as the 107 did, if anything the Maverick 105 might be closer to the Backland 107, but I think it's a far better ski for its intended purpose overall.

    Sounds like a Shift would be good with this ski? When do you plan to do a Shift 2 review?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah I think that would work nicely for a lot of skiers. It all depends what you want to do with it, and there's so much customization just within Atomic's lineup. Maverick 105 CTI feels like a great match with both the Shift 2 and with a Strive 14/16. I (Jeff) would probably go with the Strive on a Maverick as I'd mostly just want to use it in a resort setting, but if you're looking to get to the top of some big lines, Shift is a great choice.

    Nice job once again but the more reviews I watch the more undecided I get on what would be best for my one ski quiver at Snowbird. I'm currently on some 2019 177cm Fischer Ranger 102FR which I have really liked at 155lbs. I'm looking for something that gets a little less deflected in the crud that is very stable on high speed groomers but still good for those deep powder days, more concerned about stability at high speed through crud and on groomers than powder performance. Skis I'm considering are the Volkl M6 Mantra, Nordica Enforcer 99, Atomic Maverick 95 or 105, Armanda Declivity 102, but open to others. What one ski would you suggest for me?

    • @grapeape00

      The hard part is that there's so much good stuff out there! The good news is that most of it is fantastic. You're in the right zone here for sure, and I'd put my vote for the Declivity. These Armada skis are fantastic carvers, smooth operators in the crud, and predictable in fresh snow. They turn relatively easily but have a high performance ceiling.

    Ski the Enforcer 94s as my daily driver. I'm 6'3" and 250 lbs, athletic build, so require some stability. I'm an advanced intermediate as far as skiing ability. Would you recommend either these or the QST 106s as my second ski for powder days in VT or out west? Or what would be the general pros/cons of each?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  4 месяца назад

      The QST feels like a more composed turner than the Maverick. I think in softer snow, the QST is a great floater with a predictable feel. The Maverick never really struck me as being as stable or smooth as the Salomon. The Maverick is very close, but I can't quite think of an area in which it surpasses the QST in any measurable metric. The Maverick is slightly lighter than the QST, but that's more of a preference thing, and you seem to have the stats to warrant the sturdier ski.

    How does this compare to a rossi sender 104 ti, which I'm currently on? It would be a one ski quiver with a shift, 80% resort use. Which other skis are the closest replacement to the sender 104?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 месяца назад

      Yes very similar! Metal underfoot and a pretty flat and square tail. The tip taper of the Atomic is more dramatic and elongated vs. the wider shape of the Sender (now the Sender Soul 102). I think the Sender carves better than the Atomic, mainly due to the longer effective edge and smoother overall feel. Volkl Blaze 104 and Blizzard Rustler 10 are right there as well.

    Hi guys, please advice - I ski on piste 100% of time but in different conditions, usually I get 2,3 hours of nice terrain but then it gets choppy, moguls form, if temp is higher then slushy snow with big moguls, always lot of people so conditions deteriorate during the day always…so anyhow, is any of this maverick lineup good choice or should I use something differently - like kendo, mantra m6/7, or something else, thx in advance (I don’t care about ski width or any other technical data, just want best ski for those very different conditions during day). Just to mention we never have powder days…

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  5 месяцев назад +1

      I think it's better to go a bit narrower, so the Maverick 88 and Kendo make more sense to me than the wider versions. Between those, the Maverick is a bit lighter and more mobile while the Kendo is sturdier, more stable, and more damp. If you don't want to work so hard, I would go with the Maverick, but for the most precision and power here, the Kendo is amazing.

    Great review... how does this 105 compare to a Faction Dancer 3 and the Ripstick Black 106? I own both the latter two so curious how you think they compare (and/or don't compare).

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  5 месяцев назад +1

      The Dancer and the Ripstick both are better and cleaner turners than the Maverick, at least for me. I find the Dancer to have wonderful pop and energy for how smooth it is, and that's due to the blend of camber and metal. The Ripstick 106 Black Edition is easy to initiate, hooks in nicely, and delivers wonderful pep on the back side. I think the Atomic fits in a bit differently in that it states a relatively short radius but either wants to go straight and mob through crud and chop or be more technical and swishy along the sides of the trail. The other two skis seem to have the middle ground covered better while the Atomic likes to be at more opposite ends of the spectrum.

    Could you tell me how do the off and on piste performance comprares to the past Maverick 100Ti? And in your experience, is it still good at groomers?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  4 месяца назад +1

      I prefer the 100 Ti on groomers. The shape, especially in the shovel, makes the 100 hook into the turn more at the top of the ski while the 105 has a lower contact point on the ski to make it more amenable to softer snow and versatile turn shapes. The 100 is stiffer and more responsive and precise. This makes it a better groomer ski in my experience. I certainly prefer the 105 off-piste and it's passable on groomers but I do not find it excels.

    Thank you for all the in depth reviews. I have watched this and the 2024 model ones a few times and am really torn between the two years. Any suggestions for a intermediate moving to advanced, Tahoe skier that keeps finding moderate powder to moderate/heavy crud when I hit the mountain? I am not a major off-piste skier, but my local mountain doesn't groom as many runs as one would thing. Size wise I am a little bigger than Bob. Speaking of which did Bob have a preferred length?
    Thank you for the Wingman 86CTi reviews too. They were great I bought a pair based on those and love them. I am hoping the above let me enjoy some of the terrain that I struggle with the Wingman on.

      Awesome! Just did the ski test videos for the Wingman for 2025 and I remarked to myself just how easy they are to talk about because the performance is so special and unique.
      Regarding the Maverick, it's one of the lighter yet sturdier skis out there at the 105 level, which I think is a good place to be for your ski zone. I (Bob) found the 185 to be plenty--I don't think I'd go 191. I'd also check out the Head Kore 105 and the Salomon QST 106 for this style of skiing. The QST I love in the 189 while I'm happy on the 184 Kore.

Specifically from your reviews of it and Jeff's counter point comments on it.

    Mav 105 vs sender 104?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  5 месяцев назад +2

      Pretty good comparison, shapes are a lot different though. The rocker/taper in the shovel of the Maverick gives it a better soft snow feel than Sender, IMO. A ski that I've been thinking of that's overall relatively similar to the Maverick 105 (I wanted to talk about it in this video and somehow forgot) is the Armada Declivity 108 Ti.

      I'm 55 years old and a former amateur ski racer so my best skiing is behind me, but I have tested skis in the past (Atomic & Volkl) and you ski very differently than you do with your own set of skis. If you're doing your job correctly when you're testing, you're changing up your turns and forcing the ski harder than you normally would to figure out where its limits are. So I would defend them on their skiing and say don't judge unless you've seen videos of them on their own equipment.

I also like that they have two very different styles of skiing and body types which lends to mor variety of opinions on product, which is exactly what you want in ski testers. In fact I’d even argue that You want someone on the lower end of advanced levels of skiing to test products considering that’s gonna be 80% of your client demographic. All in all, not really sure what the point of this comment was besides trying to weirdly brag that you might be a better skier than someone on RUclips.

      I think you're looking for the Rustler if mixing playfulness, power, and versatility is a big part of your goals. The Atomic is wonderful, but is more like the aVntage. The Rustler will provide a rounder, more interesting turn in a variety of conditions and terrain. The Maverick is more of a point and shoot style of ski.
