I'm back in the office working on Exploring FNAF's Environments Part 2! I have a FNAF Fan Game video coming out first, but Part 2 will be out asap, thank you all for the support!!
I will die on this hill, the atmosphere for FNAF 1 and Sister Location was the best. FNAF 1's dark and haunting atmosphere combined with Sister Location's empty, eerie and mysteriousness would be amazing.
I personally feel that the animatronics visibly moving around at all times takes away from their creepiness, and is a big part of why I do not like the post UCN Fnaf games at all, but to each their own. Nothing will ever beat how Bonnie and Freddy just stand there and stare right into the camera with their cold dead eyes in Fnaf 1, those are still the scariest moments in the whole franchise.
I agree. Seeing Bonnie and Chica suddenly appear in the doorway looks better and scarier to me than seeing them walk there. It's probably different in VR, but I don't have a VR headset and I don't play the games myself because I'm just too slow for games like FNaF.
Yeah, that's true. The games were at their scariest when you didn't quite understand what was going on. Seeing the animatronics plod around in the hallways does take a bit away from the setting's theatrics.
Fnaf in real time shows that it can be effective if you don’t do it like a dumbass and leave room for the player to not have all the information they desperately want but don’t necessarily need.
The first three fnaf games feel the same as going back to somewhere you used to visit loads as a child as an adult. As a child you can find enjoyment and look past a lot of issues; but when you go back as an adult you can't help but notice how poorly put together a lot of things are, how dirty everything looks, how the rooms feel just that little more cramped than you remember.
I wish the fnaf 2 Office wasn’t so brightly lit. I know it’s meant to give you the feeling of being exposed but some people aren’t fans of how bright the office is. I feel like it could be slightly better if it was more dim but not completely dark.
And I wish the other rooms didn't look more like warehouse divisions with pizza stickers, banners and posters plastered over the walls in relatively moderate amounts. We don't see a single arcade machine or skee-ball table anywhere despite the fact they have a Prize Counter, the posters are of the animatronics instead of the characters that they represent (but to be fair, that was only really changed in Security Breach now that I think about it, and Scott's a 3D modeler, not a 2D artist), there's four party rooms that are accessible only through the bathroom hall, I shouldn't have to explain why this is a double bad decision (what kiddy restaurant needs that many private party rooms anyways?)... heck, they don't even have a kitchen. And the biggest offender, visually at least, is definitely everything associated with the office. A hallway that leads straight into it with a doorless doorframe so that every family can see the office and anyone who's working in it during their Faz-tastic experience, and two big dusty vents at ground level with no covers for any kid to freely jump into and gain lung cancer. You cannot tell me that kids don't go into the office every 5 seconds. They do, there's literally nothing stopping them.
I can definitely see how it could be scarier if it were darker. I think it works with the theme of the "new" animatronics and location but some kind of fan game making it darker would be awesome to see
@@MauxHearian yeah, wouldn't that be nice lol I actually think the first Candy's ain't too bad on that front. A Bite at Freddy's is probably even better. Maybe Popgoes too, idk.
@@MauxHearianthat’s why i try to recreate the buildings from the games in a realistic layout on minecraft using a newer fnaf mod called “management wanted” it really helps visualize what these games could’ve been if realism was baked into the core design philosophy of the series from the start!! makes me appreciate the fnaf movie pizzeria so much more when you look at how practical that place is as an actual design layout!!!
2:52 fun fact! Although he's a mouse now, CEC was originally a rat (and before that, a coyote in the conceptual stage as Nolan Bushnell thought the costume he'd purchased was a coyote until he turned it around and saw the distinctly rodent tail lol)
Even though Fazbear's Fright is intended to be scary since it is a horror attraction, I vividly remember feeling very uncomfortable about the place way back when and I still am a little to this day. Because when you think about it, just like the previous locations there's still the feeling of disrepair whether it be intentional for the sake of Fazbear's Fright being a horror attraction or the fact that the building literally has poor ventilation. Can you imagine how insane it would be if Fazbear's Fright were to open in the condition it was in during FNAF 3? People would be hallucinating, passing out, and even dying due to oxygen deprivation thanks to the poor ventilation system, let alone having to deal with the reanimated corpse of a murderer inside what is now a decayed green rabbit suit. Just talking about this makes me want to see a fan game where Fazbear's Fright actually opened and you hear about all these reports of people actually losing their minds going through the attraction and dying due to either the lack of oxygen, shear panic attacks, or the fact there's a murderous bunny wandering the place. Part of me now wishes that this concept was when the gameplay of FNAF 3 took place and not a week before the attraction opened because it would've been interesting to hear the history of the building considering there's already a big gap between the events of FNAF 1 and FNAF 3. We could've had phone calls that mention the history of Fazbear's Fright from the last 5 years or so in-universe. The general idea would be that 5 years have gone by and somehow this horror attraction is still in business even though there have been news stories about people going into the building and coming out mentally scarred or not coming out at all.
I'm mostly not a fan of it visually, (despite it being one of my favorites) but you make a very good point, the place would realistically be terrifying 😭 And now that you mention it, I would LOVE to see a fan game that takes place maybe on the first week and/or further into the future like you suggested
i think it would be outside of Scott's skill set at the time, but it would be really cool to be a person going through the attraction as intended make the location bigger and 1v1 springtrap face to face in a genuine horror attraction instead of playing mobile games and waiting for something to happen
@@proxy6330 I more so thought you’d still play as a security guard if Fazbear’s Fright were to have been already opened instead of playing as a person attending the attraction trying to get out.
Such an underrated video, I originally but this on as background noise whilst trying to sleep but I ended up watching the entire thing. Amazing video and great analysis.
Someone pointed out that the birthday banner on stage in FNaF 2 is storytelling. Points made by that person: -phone guy said “new summer job” and the paycheck said November, that was not an error by Scott. -New summer job means all 5 calls and the call about the final Freddy event(the birthday where the bite happened) there were prerecorded in the summer job….FNAF 2 happens AFTER That Establishment shut down from the bite of 87. Which is why that paycheck says November. Everything including that banner was never taken down after the party.
I didn't know that but that's part of what I love about FNAF. I give the lore a lot of flak but little details like that dotted that around the maps really makes it for me
The core of fnaf horror is the crusty setting as opposed to the character design. The original designs are somewhat charming until put into dimly lit halls and cobweb encrusted corners. During the day, it's a place of joy. But you're not here during the day. You have the night shift.
duuude, PLEASE do make that video on the audio of fnaf. I think the first game is particularly beautiful at this, as the small cues and sounds you hear deliver a sense of fear, and at the same time, give more space to the enviroment yknow? I have no idea why, but toy Bonnie's size is mostly small and skinny, but for some reason, he looks like a massive statue in the stage camera! I don't know if it's the head shape or camera view. But it looks like my 7 inch hands and rap around their eyes and they'd still be too big to cover
14:01 It’S AgOnYy woooooOoOOo THE LOOOOORE But yeah, I love Environmental Storytelling and the Idea that a place is haunted to the core and tries to show you something by changing things up
personally the backstage camera in fnaf 1 has always remained in my memories. when i was young i was terrified of broken animatronics. it was (and still slightly is, embarrassingly) the worst when one had an unblinking eye or was completely motionless while the others moved (the end of splash mountain i remember vividly lol). the backstage mimics that mainly because seeing all of those spare parts and empty heads sit there unmoving where no one else is supposed to see. that really unnerved me when i first played this game when i was an 11 year old kid. the worst was when i opened the cameras to the backstage looking for bonnie, and all of the heads were staring right at me! i freaked out and turned the game off lmao, good times.
FNAF4 has always been my favorite for some reason. I think it just takes me back to my childhood living in a house out in the rural Midwest with a long driveway. It brings back that feeling of when the dark could be truly terrifying. When I’d look at movie cover art in the horror section of a video store out of morbid curiosity, then I’d regret that and think about those images later that night when I’m alone in my room with the lights out.

One thing that I find odd about some of the cameras in five nights at Freddy’s 2 is that they seem rather low for security cameras, being almost at head or toros height instead of close to the ceiling like a lot of security cameras are.
I tried to go when I was maybe 19 with some family and they asked us if we had a child with us. When we said no they said we couldn't come in 😔😂 Probably just the location but I'm happy to hear some places DO let adults in haha

They should’ve won hundred made an accurate environment of the original game for the movie. In the film, everything looks too bright and upbeat rather than dark and unnerving. Excellent video on a topic I wish was more talked about: the atmosphere and scenarios does carry a lot of FNaF, and people didn't realize it until Security Breach failed at its liminality. In the defense of FNaF 3: Yes, it is scary on purpose, which is a hit or miss. However, what makes it work is, of course, Springtrap and the lore. It would be like, in the real world, making an Ed Gein attraction recreating his house... And then having Ed Gein popping up. Suddenly the intrigue and mystery and "fun" are utterly gone: the place itself hasn't changed, but your perspective on it has. It is no longer a "fun exploration", but a hunting ground. And, jumping the gun a little, it is why FNaF 4 works so well by being the inverse: it is, essentially, a child going through a home invasion. Edit: typo.
I actually like how Fnaf 3 looks simply because it helps Springtrap hide in the walls. It is so easy to miss him which raises fear. Edit: ok the point I disagree with you completely is that fnaf 3 office being bright. Its quite literally, the darkest office from the original trilogy. Green lights are not good at brightening a place up. And for how long the office is, only having 2 lights is nowhere near enough to cover up the entire office. If anything FNAF 2 is way too bright.
Good point, I also like that it gives Springtrap so many places to hide. AND it's not as bright as FNAF 2 but I think for me maybe it's the mix of forced horror (because it's an attraction) and maybe it not being dark enough? After reading yours and other comments I've been trying to think about what would make me like FNAF 3's environments more. Maybe I can bring that up in part 2 or another video "Fixing" FNAF's Environments
Although security breach has its charm, its envoirment really isn’t scary. Comparing it to the atmosphere of first few games really highlights the difference.
Great vid and good evaluation of the layouts. Hey I hate Balloon Boy too. I actually hate all the humanoid characters; Balloon Boy, Bellora, Circus Baby (stupid name), the Puppet, “Gregory” - the whole lot of those types. Sundrop and Moondrop are…tolerable? But the awkward fan obsession over them makes me not like them as much as the other characters.

After reading yours and other comments I've been trying to think about what would make me like FNAF 3's environments more. Maybe I can bring that up in part 2 or another video "Fixing" FNAF's Environments
Can’t wait for fnaf 5
Although security breach has its charm, its envoirment really isn’t scary. Comparing it to the atmosphere of first few games really highlights the difference.
Awesome video
Great vid and good evaluation of the layouts. Hey I hate Balloon Boy too. I actually hate all the humanoid characters; Balloon Boy, Bellora, Circus Baby (stupid name), the Puppet, “Gregory” - the whole lot of those types. Sundrop and Moondrop are…tolerable? But the awkward fan obsession over them makes me not like them as much as the other characters.
Why does that thumbnail look so cool?
Thank you! I was really happy with how it came out

Thank you 🙏 it's my favorite hat from this company, "Revive Skateboards" but I think they're sold out
Wow cool video
great video
What's the song near the beginning? The chord progression sounds really familiar.
The first song is Zootropio by Etienne Roussel and the one after that is Moonlight Mystery by Alexandra Woodward. I got both from Epidemic Sound :)
Great video :)
I wish you talked more about Security Breach

Woah, same. My favorite is pizza with pesto sauce and sliced tomato on top. Exquisite combination, truly.
