I just found your channel, I've watched a couple other videos of yours so far, and I'm liking what I'm seeing!
I was excited to see the thumbnail/title of this video!
However, after watching it, I still have soooo many questions.
    Like:
▪︎What exactly is this shingle made of?
▪︎I'm wanting to end up with a roof that will not have any chemicals added to rainwater. Is this even possible?
    Is this shingle a contender?
▪︎Can you ballpark the price range of the product in this video?
▪︎My roof is only a 1:12, can this shingle be used on it?
▪︎We often need to walk on our roof to blow leaves off of it.
Is this a shingle that we can walk on?
▪︎Is it possible to DIY with this product?
    Or is that not advisable?
I'm a nube at all this roofing, and trying to do my homework before having to get a new roof.
I understand prices fluctuate, but seriously, I really need some kind of price reference.
I would not expect an exact price, just a ballpark if that's possible.
Also, I know this video is 2 years old, but if anyone can help me with some answers, I would really appreciate it!
    Thanks 👍

Thanks for watching my videos, this is a great product but would not work on a 1:12 pitch roof. There are very few roof systems that will go down that low. The right standing seam roof could potentially be ok, or something that is approved for flat roofs. It is very important that the right product be used and properly installed on a roof that flat. I would recommend having a good local professional roofing contractor come out and give his recommendations, then feel free to send any questions you may have.

      Wait-
I've seen roofers talk about why certain products are better for a low pitch roof.
However, I'm not sure why a metal shingle would go on, and perform any differently than the asphalt shingles?
Also, could it be that a smaller roof at the pitch of 1:12 could make a difference?
The entire roof is only 20 ft x 20 ft. Basically the size of a 2 car garage.
With only one main ridge, nothing else.
So each side of the ridge is only 10 ft x 20 ft.
How would a composite roof be any different than an asphalt roof?
I ask bcuz they both go on in sections about the same size, they both have the same basic layout as far as each section is concerned.
It looks as if they both would drain water in the same manner.
Could you explain that to me?

@@gardengatesopen It is best to do what the manufacturers say in reguards to installation to maintain warranties. No type of asphalt shingle or synthetic shingle is approved to go below a 2/12. If you do, you are asking for trouble. Sorry

      Trouble?
      Hmmmm...
      Ok, I understand.
      Heed the manufacturers directions.
      Got it.
But just to let you know, this roof has had asphalt shingles on it for 20 years, and never had any trouble.
So I'm not sure what type of trouble there would be?
Which simply takes me back to my question in my previous comment. And also, I want some type of roof that does not pollute the rain water.
The roof WILL need SOME type of covering.
      So I'll ask the manufacterer.
      Thanks for your time.

They are designed to walk on, but most roofs are not safe to walk on when wet. There are different profiles that have different exposures

@@SkywalkerRoofingCompany We did the roof already took us two weeks with a strip of 1 layer with ice and water underneath 2 guys, and in some instances it got slippery on the slate when it rained but nothing really serious 7/12, 8/12 4500 sq feet but i thought it will be worse. Looks great! Thanks for getting back to me, have a good weekend

That end piece which was cut doesn't look great. I assume in a roof you'll see more of those cuts then on a small scale demo display....

It does look completely different 20 feet away as would most roofs. We also use a metal j channel trim piece on the rake edges to cover the cut edges.

Roofing has just become another American scam. Imagine; plastic roof that costs probably a hundred bucks or less a square
to manufacture and then charge $700-900 bucks a square to install. Does anyone see what's wrong with that picture?????
Charging almost %1000 ; again; one thousand percent markup on a plastic roof (never mind the high tech buzz word names for these
essentially plastic/rubber roofs) Sure, they might be better and last longer than asphalt; but the pricing is still outrageous!!!

    • @SkywalkerRoofingCompany
      @SkywalkerRoofingCompany 3 года назад +2

I can assure you I could never buy this product for anywhere close to $100 per square. We cannot control what the manufacturer charges for their product, but I can say the customers who I've installed these roofs for were very impressed with the quality of the material, warranty, and especially the appearance.

      @MrSloika 3 года назад +3

@@SkywalkerRoofingCompany I agree with you. I don't know what it costs the manufacturer to make this product, might be $100 per square, doesn't mean they are going to sell it for $100 per square. How would they make a profit that way?

Yes. I tell you what is the bottom line here: disposal of old roofing material, underlayment, labor, insurance, licensing.... Want me to continue? The tile is not the only thing that goes on in a roof. Everything else cost a lot of money.

I understand and share your position, you need to understand that for now composite slate or composite cedar is a high end product that outlasts asphalt singles 2:1 or maybe 3:1 So the installers will quote not bbased on cost but based on alternative of doing your roof 2 or 3 time with asphalt shingles. Fairly new product still in «milking the customer » marketing phase..
