Thank You very much great explanation. I just ordered the kit 20 minutes ago not too much $. Looking forward to the part time and maybe an extra mile or so to the gallon ha but i can hope.
It's a small very simple job especially when you already have one out. Split the case, take it apart, take pictures if you need but you shouldn't be tearing a transfer case apart if you can't just put it together looking at parts🤗
Stumbled on your video. Did the conversion on my 78 k15 about 40 years ago. First attempt was with a B&M kit. That was a waste of time and $$. couldn't get it to shift properly. Ended up with a Doug Nash DNE2 shaft and warn hubs. Still works fine. Just need to put it into 4wd every now and then.
@Ch1quito123 you certainly can! Depending on what transmission you have would dictate which np205 you need. The th350 auto uses a 27 spline input which is kind of rare to find in an np205. The th400 uses a 32 spline which is a bit more common. the sm465 uses 32 spline and 10 spline. In addition you would need front manual locking hubs to get the full benefit of the swap. Doing so would make the truck part time 4x4.
I cannot find Mile Marker kit with shaft called said they do not make it anymore. Want to get a PT kit with shaft. Where did you get yours and who manufacture it? Thanks for your time
The problem with full time is you can lift one tire and your done . As soon as one tire spins all power is diverted to the spinning tire . I push snow with a 77 3/4 ton Chevy . 6 inch lift 35/12.50s . I did a good clip on 203 shifters on my RUclips channel The Weldor . I like 203s because after you convert it . You get true 2wd in low range . The front output shaft does not turn in low range ! Unless you go to lock position !
@CORVAIRWILD I actually sold the shaft kit that is why i took it back apart. Now if only i could sell the case or the fulltime front hubs... It would be good for plowing and makes for good handling on the street in fulltime. I am installing a 205 right now that is the only reason i took this out. Thanks for watchong
When you run in normal low or high after the kit is installed is your front running gear (drive shaft/axles) totally disengaged with the hubs unlocked?
Interesting. One of my TEERUKS ahs this conversion. Personally, I want full time for winter plowing. I had a 700R4 converted to run a 203. Just when I will install it??? Thx fer sharing!!! CW
@jasonpatterson19 I would but i replaced the np203 with a stronger np205 gear to gear case. I can make a vid of that later this year when i swap the input shaft. The np203 is a good transfercase if you have any questions about it I might be able to answer them.
Thanks for the kind words. should have more truck vids coming soon. I wish i could help you out on the shaft kit. I got it off a guy from wheeling dixie dot com. I would check backwoods motor sports and ebay as well as CK5 dot com and nc4x4. Basically a lot of the forms out there have classified sections were people sell off there old parts. If i have some extra time i can contact a few people i know locally. Good luck with the hunt and can't beat a K5 man!
Will, you most likely do not have the shaft kit but rather the other mile marker kit part number 501 If you got questions just message me. Also it may be easier just to swap the rang box (front half) of the np203 for the one that matches your th400's 32 spline shaft. I no longer own any np203's or automatics for that matter so I cannot make another vid. Went to an sm465 and np205. But i have taken a few np203's apart. let me know what other help you need
well depends if it was the shaft replacement kit or the spider cogs. If it is a shaft then yeah about 70-85 buxor a good used one. They still are sold new and cost about 150. Ebay or a club website would be your best bet for a sale.
Do you think the updated kit would work on 75 w200 power wagon ? I checked on mike marker website under vehicle applications and my truck doesn’t show up ..would you also recommend lockers or just the kit?
I got it Online from a guy on wheeling dixie. The site no longer exists. They no longer make these so you need to find a used one. They still make the spider gear kits but not the replacement shaft. Try CK5 or backwoodsmotorsports or ebay. You might want to consider an np205 swap as I did. Good luck and if you need any more info let me know.
Hey i like how you have all these vids they are very helpful i have a 79 chevy k5 blazer with a th350 and an np 203 where can i find the shaft kit all i seem to find is the spider clogs.
@snake1700grizz No they are a good transfercase. There only 2 issues are a shifter that likes to get sticky overtime and the fact that they are chain driven. They work great for a plow truck and also in an offroader because they have a lower low range then an np205
My question is this, i have 84 K5 th350 thats getting a 520hp 388 small block i built getting installed, i want to convert to a short 4x4 shaft TH400 build it but i need to know where i can find parts to convert my 27 spline input in my 205 to a 32 spline. Its an 8 bolt, im just looking for the tcase adapter right? Would a 203 32 spline adapter work?
@tmkbehkn yeah sure you can. You can use the NP 205 gear drive. You will need the 27 spline Trans to T case adapter and shifter if it is a th350 auto in your truck. The Np205 is sorter then the 203 so you will need to put in a longer rear drive shaft and shorter front drive shaft.
Good points. I made it with a digital camera that only shoots 5 min of movies. So it is kind of a pain to film. I know a trypod will also help. Hopefully soon I can afford a real vid cam.
Is there a distinct disadvantage to the regular 203 or is this just personal preference? I have one on a truck and just making sure its ok and reliable.
I have some questions. I have 2 np203's. One is from my th350 and the other from my th400. I currently have the th400 in my blazer so I'm using that transfer case that matches because of transmission spline count. My issue is that the other one has what I believe a part time shaft kit but I don't know how to get it out and into the other tcase. I'm not sure how to tell for sure. The th350 one doesn't have spider gears and seems like its some type of spring loading system. Where as the th400...
84400 I know this is old so I dont know if you will see this but if you do I would like to ask you a question. I have a dodge with a 727 auto trans and the NP205 I would like to do this but without the locking hubs in the truck do you know how you would engage the 4 wheel drive?
Nope. You can install locking hubs on your current axle. All locking hubs do is connect the wheel hub to the axle shaft thus powering the wheel. What year dodge? Old w200 powerwagon? If so they came stock with a 727 and Np203 full time transfer case. You can convert to part time if disired
I like the fact you went to trouble to do this. But a TINY bit more effort to get the camera still would help those that can not set thru a 3D movie....... And do it in order instead of just random starts and stops.
naw a doubler uses the range box from an np203 infront of an np205 so it is like putting one t case in front of another giving you double low. So a doubler will give you a noticeably different low range. If you need that go doubler. If you just want low 2wd then this kit works.
Too bad they don't make these kits anymore. I just got a 79 K10 with a NP203. Guess i'll have to bite the bullet and get myself a 205 and all the other necessary trimmings. Drive shaft, etc. From what I gather the 205 is quite a bit longer.
The only problem with the kit is that your chain doesn't lubricate the transfer case anymore unless it's I 4 wheel drive or you lock the front hubs in.
I know this is an older comment. I have a 89 Jimmy that I just recently bought. The person before me had put a part time kit into the np203 t case. I notice when I put into 2wd it makes a slight jingling sound. It goes away when I put unto 4wd. Any idea why? Could it be because of what you said, not getting and oil? Can/should I just leave in 4 hi with hubs unlocked?
I bought mine used off CK5 or one of the other GM forums. The shaft kit is only available used it went out of production. Summit and the like selll the other kit
@jasonpatterson19 hahah yeah maybe some day when i have extra cash. I make these vids with a cannon camera it can only save 5 min a vid at a time so It is not the best for the you tube vids
Feel free to send me a Personal message here on youtube with your email and I can send you the part time shaft kit instructions. Might help with your swap.

Where did you get the part time kit at?
I've done this about 17 years ago. It's a big job, and I did the axle as well. But I did it in a 77 dodge power wagon
Wd alis

i was debating converting mine but think im gonna keep mine fulltime 4wd but this video was verry well done thanks man

Where did you get this kit. I need to do that to my 78 k20 also did you put locking hub kit upfront
I bought it used off CK5 I think. and yes I instaled superwinch quarter turn hubs with this kit.
When you run in normal low or high after the kit is installed is your front running gear (drive shaft/axles) totally disengaged with the hubs unlocked?

What are the benefits of part time over full time?
Does that mean the PT stuff has value? I have one I hope to have pulled, when my guy gets outta jail...

@avionicswirenut might try airing down your tire PSI to get it under the door.
@avionicswirenut i believe the only diffrance is transmisson spline count. Although the 727 dodge auto may use 27 spline but i am not sure.
Are the kits still available?
@tmkbehkn yeah sure you can. You can use the NP 205 gear drive. You will need the 27 spline Trans to T case adapter and shifter if it is a th350 auto in your truck. The Np205 is sorter then the 203 so you will need to put in a longer rear drive shaft and shorter front drive shaft.

Would this kit make it so you can’t go into lo-loc or hi-loc?
Is there a distinct disadvantage to the regular 203 or is this just personal preference? I have one on a truck and just making sure its ok and reliable.

Where as the th400 one has a bunch of spider gears and a lot more crap in it. Hopefully this isn't clear as mud but I need some help. Please help

whats the kit # with shaft?
84400
I know this is old so I dont know if you will see this but if you do I would like to ask you a question.
I have a dodge with a 727 auto trans and the NP205 I would like to do this but without the locking hubs in the truck do you know how you would engage the 4 wheel drive?
well get an auto locking hubbed axle.
So the only way to do this it to switch front axles?
Nope. You can install locking hubs on your current axle. All locking hubs do is connect the wheel hub to the axle shaft thus powering the wheel.

@@84400 how i have 4 w100s all 203s like to have 2x2
I need to look it up and get back to you. Thanks for watcfhing!

I know it's been a minute since this video but I am looking for someone that might be selling a used one if these shafts.
Try the square body truck forms, CK5 Pirate4x4 ebay and even facebook. They need to be used as they are nolonger made
@92greenz34 thank you for the kind words. I hope it helps someone save some time and do the job right
who makes the kit? I emailed Mile Marker and they don't make the shaft kit anymore.
Still available thru Summit.
I thought this was a video to show you how it's all ready put together when the video starts
Thanks lan
Were do I find the kit
I bought mine used off CK5 or one of the other GM forums. The shaft kit is only available used it went out of production. Summit and the like selll the other kit
@jasonpatterson19 I would love to but I no longer have a np203.
@avionicswirenut For this kit install there is no difference.
Might help with your swap.
why
offroading and fear of broken parts. Also so i could install a front locker. IF it was a work or plow truck I would NOT have installed the part time
