Cornell sounds Fantastic here. During the last 4 months of 96 he started having some vocal struggles and his voice could be quite tattered some nights but this is one those nights where he was very strong and hitting all the notes with full power.
Yeah his voice was definitely changing but the spoonman 97 video from Australia sounds great and the Hawaii concert in 97 he sounds pretty good. I guess he had to cancel some of his 96 concerts due to vocal issues.
@@coryrideout5995i watched tons of live videos of Soundgarden and Chris Cornell solo performances, i think his voice started to change since 1995 and in early 2000s he lost his singing voice to some extent and became hoarse. Just listen to live performances from Euphoria Morning tour in let's say year 2000 then compare it to Audioslave live performances in 2003-2004.
@@JohnSmithWesson I saw Chris live with Soundgarden in the '90s, and then again during his Euphoria Morning tour in '99, and his voice was the best I ever heard then. Then something happened between then and Audioslave, and his voice was never the same :(
No one really talks about the visual montage before blow up the outside world. That really hit me hard when I saw it in 96 and it’s come to fruition more so today.
I wish they would start releasing full shows from December 96. They recorded all of the December shows which is what they drew from for the live on I5 album. Some of those shows were fantastic . Oakland Sacramento Vancouver and the 2 Seattle shows were fantastic . Really they should release all of the December shows as a box set . They also must have a substantial amount of 2 track mixing desk/soundboard tapes. They could do bootleg series or release them via a subscription series like the Gratefiul dead have down with their 2 track mixing desk tapes. Or they could release them online via a download series
Love that you STILL look and find these gems that are otherwise sitting in closets/lockboxes to die a slow death along w/ those of us who remember when these songs were brand new.......cheers bro
@ 33:18 And thx again for posting this, saw them live in Munich in 96, I heard countless bootlegs always looking for the intro to BHS. (He played it in Munich). So after 27 years I hear it again.(Though in a slightly different version)

This is sweeter than finding 50 bucks on the pocket. Also is that the “Rabbit One - Master of Reality” cover ? Two of my favorite bands crossing over unexpectedly. And how cool was that jam leading from ‘Rabbit One’ into ‘Helter Skelter’. Proper Live band. Thank you so much for this. We need more Soundgarden live footage.
Holy shit you're absolutely right - that's totally the lyrics to "Rabbit One" by Masters of Reality that Chris is singing before the "Helter Skelter" part. Great catch man!
Brave mofo!! We did not have cameras in those days. How you slipped it past security…whatever. Great footage! I saw this tour when I was like 15 I think..
I know what Chris was saying right before the audio starts;this was a few months after Metallica headlined Lollapolooza and Chris apologized for not coming to Philly by saying “Sorry about Lolla, that was Metallica’s fault. They don’t like playing around here or some shit”..
I wish I never met you, but now it's a little late.... Soundgarden should put out a CD with all the five minutes plus versions of Helter Skelter. The more I hear Soundgardens rendition the more they outshine the entire Beatles catalague.
it's really puzzling to me how the Beatles seemed to obsess so much about some of their worst (or less powerful) songs... and the setlist of the Rooftop concert is so fucking pedestrian.... there, I said it...
during this specific period, tail end of 96, was there a feeling that the band might end at any minute? or did people start taking Soundgarden for granted at all? it's so weird when we think a certain band will last forever and then it ends
for me it was shocking when Audioslave announced their end in 2006 after a badass 3rd album, my favorite from them, for whatever reason never liked the 2nd one that much.... I thought they would last for a long time and then all of a sudden boom

Live Bootleg, Ben is an awesome bass player (you hear it because it's live and unaltered) but his flaw at that tour was, showing contempt for the audience.
Eddie Vedder a better singer then Chris Cornell ? Dude is delusional. Eddie Vedder has no range. Cornell can sing in Vedders range but Vedder has zero high range and would sound awful singing a soundgarden song but Cornell could have sang Perla jam songs with ease
Chris is my personal favorite singer ever but I don't agree with everything said here ...two completely different distinct voices and while Eddie doesn't have a 4-5 octave range he certainly has a very unique 2-3 octave baritone voice and Chris didn't utilize his lower voice enough to really make it his craft...totally different voices that compliment each other greatly! I've been a massive fan of both since 91
@@eijakaikkonen5662 what he said wasn’t all that subjective opinion. Cornell objectively had a better range, a stronger belt, and could easily sing a Pearljam song. There’s a lot of Soundgarden songs that Vedder couldn’t have pulled off. Cornell was also an above-average player of multiple instruments. A lot of his arrangements/chord progressions were really unique. As a guitarist, I can tell you I’ve never seen Vedder do anything other than some hummer strummer shit on an acoustic guitar or maybe a mandolin once or twice??

Didn’t he blow his voice and have to get vocal cord reconstruction surgery

Why the solo performance of Black Hole Sun.. were the guys tired of performing it?
He did it solo in 96 and 97. From what I heard Ben the bassist got sick of playing it but I actually prefer the solo version
