इस कहानी में चार महिलाएं पानी भरने के लिए कुएं पर जाती हैं और अपने बेटों के बारे में बात करती हैं। एक महिला कहती है कि उसका बेटा अध्यापक है दूसरी कहती है उसका बेटा ज्योतिष में बहुत शिक्षित है और एक अच्छा ज्योतिषी बनेगा, तीसरी कहती है कि उसका बेटा वैज्ञानिक बनेगा। इसी तरह जब उन्होंने चौथी महिला से पूछा कि उसका बेटा क्या कर रहा है, तो वह थोड़ी झिझकती है और कहती है कि उसका बेटा ज्यादा पढ़ा-लिखा नहीं है, वह सिर्फ एक किसान है और खेत में मेहनत करता है। कुछ समय बाद, उन सभी के बेटे आते हैं अपनी-अपनी माताओं को प्रणाम करके चले जाते हैं लेकिन किसान बेटा आता है और अपनी मां का भारी घड़ा उठाकर उसे घर ले जाता है। उसकी मां मुस्कुराते हुए उसके पीछे चल देती है क्योंकि उसका बेटा भले ही ज्यादा शिक्षित न हो, लेकिन उसमें व्यावहारिक ज्ञान और मां की परवाह है।
In this story, four women go to a well to fetch water and talk about their sons. One of them says her son is a teacher. Another woman proudly shares that her son is highly educated in astrology and will become a great astrologer. The third woman claims her son will be a scientist. When they ask the fourth woman about her son, she hesitates and reveals that her son is not very educated; he is just a farmer who works hard on the farm. After some time, their sons come and greet them, then leave. However, the farmer's son stays back and carries his mother's heavy water pot. His mother smiles, knowing that although her son may not be well-educated, he possesses practical knowledge and cares deeply for her.
