Keep at it man! Just some advice though. I've been playing for 35 years and just had my first gig with a new band. This was the only song in the list I said no to. Not because I think I can't play it, just because it would take too much of my time away from learning the other 35 songs. If it takes too long and you get discouraged, go after some lower hanging fruit, (easier songs) just to get a sense of accomplishment. When I started playing, the first thing I wanted to learn was Rush so I get it. You want what you want. I'm kind of an odd duck though. I'm very anti-blues. I'll play anything else. Blues just sounds like the same song been re-written for 70 years. Like if Happy Birthday was it's own genre with thousands of songs that are only a slight variation of it. Yuck! I was happy to learn the 3 Zeppelin songs, 3 Chic songs and 3 Police songs. Keep at it man. I've been in bands and the band scene for over 35 years so I know a ton of musicians. I've never heard anyone say they regret spending the time learning their instrument. So no matter how much effort you put into it, you'll never regret it. For me, I think the easiest way to learn a song these days is to find a bass cover video with tab and slow it to 75%. Rewind and repeat as need. Just don't use Brand73 videos. The guy made thousands of bass cover videos but his timing is just awful! I don't like to bash people but he's doing the bass community a huge disservice. Anything you learn from him will be wrong and you'll have to unlearn it. Bass players have to have great timing. You are the bridge between the rhythm and the melody. Rock on and have fun!

This is a really great lesson. I love how you explain the bass line as well as what the bass line is. I think it's so important for bassists to know why the bass line works, not just what it is. Well done.

I am so happy to have found this video! I’ve been struggling with parts of this song so having it broken down in segments has been fabulous. Your explanation of each segment is very helpful. Thank you so very much.

Fantastic job on breaking down your arrangement, as well as explaining the theory which is really valuable for beginners and intermediate players. However, it should be noted that it is quite different to the recorded version.

fun song! great lesson! i like your outgoing, optimistic and positive teaching style. very clear instruction, broken down into manageable pieces. i wish you continued and growing success. that was some impressive plucking at the end of the vid. i enjoyed your lesson on 'i saw her standing there' as well.
i really try to avoid using a pick when playing bass, i want to develop strong plucking chops. i picked up online somewhere that when plucking notes on the E string, one should use the thumb to dampen the note shortly after plucking it. i've developed that habit reasonably well in that i consistently do it, but it sometimes results in a dull or stilted note. i was wondering if you're aware of this technique, and if so, do you have any thoughts on it?
i'm not sure if it has wide enough appeal here in youtube land to justify a lesson, but the song 'houston' by the gatlin brothers has a very cool bass line. thanks again for your contributions to the playing community :)

I was waiting for the harmonic! But it never came.
Very basic and doesn't quite finish the job.
