Bike manufacturers have literally sold bike frames in multiple sizes for different height people for decades. Somehow skateboarding is just now working this out for boards.
Ya we’ve never had the public support from the world like biking has. Everyone & every city supports bikers in someway shape or form. Skaters are treated like shit lol. So it’s not like they are spending any money researching anything to help develop skateboarding like they would with biking. A street in my city is literally changing from 2 lanes to 1 lane just to accommodate “bikers & pedestrians” not skateboarders 😂
@@thedurtylemur2282 Never been paying attention to wheelbase and that kind of stuff but I have always seen tons of different shapes, widths and lengths (pause) throughout my years of skating

i had a super tall, super talented friend who went through boards so fast, he kept the long board to get around and the popsicle board strapped to his back pack to try and mitigate the wear on his boards and he was still breaking boards and shredding bushings, breaking trucks, busting barrings, dude was a beast.
They've done this for years. How are they this bad at interviewing? "Wait wait wait hold on" should never leave your mouth if you're interviewing someone.
What Crob said at the end is very true - with the resurgence of so many people who used to skate taking it up again (people in their late 20s to 50s), some who are overweight and obese - there is definitely a need for this type of technology, but it doesn't seem like it's at the point to be marketable to the consumer yet. Hell, it doesn't seem like its at the point where even Cordano can be skating them past 3-4 uses before the normal maple plys (the nanotubes) break and the board goes "dead". A bit more innovation, and something big and eco-conscious is right around the corner! Professor Schmitt - always coming through! 🤟
I just switched from a 14.25”wheelbase to a 15” and I’m only 5’6”. I was nervous to switch because of how much wider it is, and I can absolutely feel the difference on 180s and shove its, but after taking a bit to adjust I actually really like it. I find it rotates those things easier, because of the wider swing happening from the fulcrum, and sticks to my feet better.
6ft2 230lbs here. I have listened to Paul and tested. He is so spot on. I know I can kill a board like its nothing. I bet people like me would live the double hemp
Anyone else ever notice that when you see a Pro's Skateboard Setup, it always seems like the axle nuts are covered by the outside of the wheel like on the Nano cubics or the old 80s early 90s offset wheels? I want formula 4s that are offset like Nanos are with the spitfire contact patch
really great clip, it would be interesting to see skate shops customize each board to the rider, they'd prob have to print the graphics at the very last step, can't make every variation stock i would think.
Now I'm no professor, but I think shoulder width should be taken onto consideration as well as height when choosing wheelbase length. Brian Anderson is another big dude and when he was on here, he said he was skating the orange Classic Eagle(9" wide, 15" wheelbase). If you're tall and/or heavy and/or have broad shoulders, you will feel more stable on a longer wheelbase. You will get used to it. Flip tricks will be a little harder until you adjust, but transition stuff will be easier right out of the gate.
Board would be much stronger if they gradually rotated the grains of each layer. Right now each layer rotates 90 degrees but if it were 45 if would be much much stronger. They do this in composite structural design.
The guy seems relatively smart, but he’s mostly figured out that if you talk about very basic measurements and use the words “nano tubes” while wearing a lab coat and glasses, and a bunch of skaters go “WOOOAAH!”
yeah he's definitely knows how to make an impression..... at first i thought hes a scientist but after a few min i was like wait ''he's a skilled tech carpenter, whats with a lab coat?'
Google: Paul Schmitt The New Deal C’mon, guys, know your roots/realize he’s not just some guy talking about nano tubes wearing a lab coat. He was at the forefront of innovating the flat kick-tail 1980s tanks into football-esque directional twin tips.
This is so true. The wider boards of the early 80s were way too big for me. When They thinned up in the late 80s, I was in way more control. Height and weight, are definitely a shoe size for skateboards. It's really easy to understand. Imagine a 7 year old at under 3 feet trying to do the same tricks, on the same board, as a 13 year old at 5"6. .
Shops are incentivized to not have labels on boards like a shoe size because it would narrow down the choices of viable boards skaters have to choose from even more than it already often is for most people. If the industry was bigger and shops were much bigger it would be less true, but they already probably struggle to move the limited inventory they do even have space to stock and sell, to make it even more obvious to potential buyers that there are more specific sizing considerations is against their self interest of being able to move all the boards they have.
So are these new pro boards coming out for Cordano? Toy Machine? I am roughly the same size as Cordano and would like to try this board. LET ME KNOW! :)
Just because there's a standard, doesn't mean its right. You can say the same for snowboarding. Doesnt make sense to have a waist width narrower than your boot size. Different sport but the concept is still there
Yo, Dr. Paul Schmitt blew my mind with that Carbon in the air shit! I started 🤔 how everything(us,animals, plants etc) needs the air to live, and its polluted w/Carbon🤦♂️
Carbon in the air would naturally occur without human interaction. We put way too much in the air, but plant life literally survives off of carbon dioxide. Every living thing on earth is considered a “carbon based life form”. Carbon is almost entirely inert in solid form at room temperature. It’s just when it’s in gaseous carbon dioxide that’s released into the atmosphere in mass, it can contribute to excessive heating of the planet.
The Earth's ecosystem works on a balance of gases in the atmosphere. It's meant to have some carbon in the air. Humans push too much into it and throw things out of balance heating up the earth and habitats become uninhabitable. Volcanoes push a huge amount of carbon into the air but the world's ecosystem corrects for that...until humans start building factories.
Pointless. Just go for VX decks. As a big guy who got sick of snapping decks, I've been on them for years and never have to worry about boards breaking anymore.
Ever notice Duane and salba are short? Fuckin Mike mo, size 9 or something. Skateboarders are small and can shoot hoops. So weird. I think a fall into the "beer belly Mellow concave" category. But ya, right on bill nye

I won't ride a wheelbase under 14" because the board is prone to slip out (at 5' 11"). Prefer 14.25 or more. would love to try a 15-inch wheelbase.

right. i sk8 an 8.25 but i grew up sk8ing a 7.75. so i know a lighter board is easier to flip all im saying... 7.75 is lighter than an 8.25
