I relate to the whole “I’m willing to pay this much for my collection!” mentality! Because I paid more than planned to spend to rebuild one part of my game collection. With the recent mail call being a sealed PS2 copy of Dragon Quest V (with the DQ8 DVD included sticker). 😅

I wonder how the worth of old games will change. Like games dropping in price once the people that feel nostalgic for them are at getting to an age, where they reselling their collections and demand is decreasing. I heard people talking about that this already happened to Atari VCS games a while ago. Will there be a point when the prices increase again or will it be free fall once most of the people that enjoyed them back in the day are gone? Over the last half a year to a year I saw prices drop quite a bit when comparing what they went for like a year ago and nowadays. Going after sites like pricecharting, Earthbound also peaked and went down again.
People that played these games when they were young are just around 40 now. They will most likely keep collecting until they reach 60. At that point newer generation systems will be the once that will be collected the most. But the old stuff will be still sought after by newer collectors, mainly for historical reasons. So if you keep that in mind the games that are of a historical significance will most likely keep their value, even when the people that played the games are no longer active collectors. The bulk of games will drop in value. But as long as the franchise of the series is still populair, the first games will be collectable. Think of game series like, Mario, Zelda, Street fighter, tomb Raider etc. As long as the series keeps it spot in the top current games.
The prices peaked during covid when a lot of people were stuck at home and got bored. As for people aging out, these games will still be valuable because they will continue to just get older and more rare. I do agree that those of us who grew up with these games will eventually not be around anymore, but video games will always be a part of culture, and the old Nintendo stuff will always be appreciated and sought after, in my opinion.
