      True because that's not what was said. The OP actually specified "assault weapons" which is the term commonly used on gallop polls, by politicians, by newscasters and most people when referring to semi-automatics, re: 2012 Gallop poll...."semi-automatic guns known as assault weapons."
      Are you claiming that a semi-auto AR 15, which can have a magazines holding 100 rounds of ammo, is no more dangerous, cannot kill far more people more quickly, than a "plain old 22's", i.e. bolt action 22, which normally holds 15 rounds?

    Pat Toomey is flat-out lying. The gun used in most of these mass shootings, that most people think of when the hear "assault rifle", is an AR-15. That's not a hunting rifle. Its almost identical to the M16 issued to our military for combat and uses the same ammo. It's only not an "assault rifle" by US Army standards because it doesn't have a selectable burst or fully automatic mode. But many combat vets report they never used those modes, and used the M16 in semi-automatic mode only. So in actual combat use, an M16 and AR-15 have the same effect.
    The AR-15 is a weapon of war, for all intents and purposes.

      Honestly, true gun enthusiasts don't scare me. I know a guy who machines and builds his own guns. He owns property, and once in a while a few guys gather on his deck to shoot, and awesome fun is to be had with about as much safety in mind as one can have with a couple beers in him. That said, the idea of some frustrated guy buying a gun he barely knows how to use in order to shoot up a mall is terrifying. I wish gun owners had to be licensed for safety/usage in the "types" of guns they use, like a driver's license. You need a separate license to operate a motorcycle or a commercial truck. Like that.

    Back in 2010 I was canvassing for the Census under the Depart. Of Commerce. We used our personnel cars then. I had a faulty gas needle permanently stuck in full so I couldn’t tell with certainty whether I had gas or not. So, as I was canvassing I ended up at the front of a migrant workers bungalow. I knocked on their door, went inside and recorded their information, then went back to my car; when I went to start my car, it wouldn’t start. Yes, it was out of gas. There was a 6 or 7 yr. old little girl living there who spoke English. Yes a little girl of 6 or 7 spoke two languages. She was so sweet and adorable. She had a kitten and let me hold it. She translated to her father for me. She told him I had run out of gas. Her father immediately got a gas can from the back of his truck and left and went to get me gas. I had a $10 bill on me, but he refused to take it. The little girl, her mother and myself waited for him to come back. Her mother gave me lemonade and the little girl sang a song for me (ironically she sang “only got a 💯 years to live”-she said it was her favorite song) and it was great. We played with her kitten and she had a jump rope. They had a small statue of the Virgin Mary in their yard, and in their house a picture on the wall with a crucifix. They were obviously a Catholic family, Mom, Dad and little girl. Her dad got back and put the gas in my car. I offered him money again, but again he would not take it. The little girl gave me a big hug and her Mom and Dad shook my hand. THEY WERE THE NICEST MOST GENEROUS AND KIND STRANGERS I’VE EVER MET IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. Gracious and giving, a kind, gentle, religious, generous and loving family. The kind of people we need in this country. I think about them often now as we’re living in these turbulent times in America. I wonder what happened to them and hope they are ok and all still here and together. I hope that sweet little girl did not have her loving parents ripped from her life and deported. There are so many wonderful immigrants making up the fabric of this country. Good, hardworking and kind people just looking for a better life and the American Dream. I know because I met some of them once. And when I was in a bad situation, they helped me, no questions asked, and taking nothing in return. And that’s the people getting thrown in detention centers and watching their families get ripped apart, children scattered to foster care, helpless to stop it. WE MUST UNITE IF WE ARE TO DEFEAT AND STOP THIS TRULY INHUMANE TREATMENT AND VIOLENCE!!!! IT’S UTTERLY SHAMEFUL AND DISGUSTING. WE MUST FIND A BETTER WAY.

    • @SunflowerSpotlight
      @SunflowerSpotlight 5 лет назад +24

      Ethan Well, unless you’ve got some training, regularly shoot at a range, it’s a horrible idea to try to fire in a crowd under pressure. If I was alone at home and someone broke in and was coming at me, shooting would be the way to go; other people wouldn’t be injured, I’m not likely to get away and out of the situation otherwise, and it’s close quarters.
      For me to be able to use my weapon to take down an armed shooter, across quite a distance (so as to have cover and not be shot myself), with enough accuracy that even being terrified, I can make the shot, I’d have to be at the range significantly more frequently and have it down to muscle memory.
      I’ve heard from multiple people who had weapons on them when an area they were in had a shooting, but they were at a similar level of training. They didn’t use their weapons; they basically followed the rules that have kind of been set up. It’s safer to let a professional handle the situation. Odds are not only that they would have been added to the body count (which I don’t think would have stopped one of them from trying) but that they’d actively add to it by accidentally shooting someone else.
      A giant asterisk on this is that I’m obviously not a professional in any capacity, but so are a ton of other gun owners. I recently went through various training classes and got a permit because my parents were scared of me living on my own, since I’m chronically ill and petite. I’m not really a part of, “gun culture,” or whatever, so I’m sure people who have been trained from small children in the carrying and usage of guns would feel differently than I do. All I know for sure is what I was told by the professionals who trained me: until I’m on that level, never intervene because it will probably cost several lives to do so.
      Your question is a really good one, and that’s why I responded. I so hate chiming in about gun stuff because to some people I’m part of the problem in the world, and others I’m basically “a gun banner,” because I “have a heart of fear about guns and would secretly really like them all banned.” There’s not often an actual conversation about it. But, here’s hoping *maybe* this time that won’t be the case.

    After one of the countless US shootings (late 2018 I think) an American surgeon commented that a 9mm handgun wound can obviously be fatal, but the bullet speed is such that he/she can sew up the damaged organs and the patient has a decent chance of surviving.
    However the MUCH higher velocity of an AR15 round basically obliterates bone and organs into mush that simply cannot be put back together. So the same person, shot in the same location with a 9mm vs an assault rifle style weapon, have vastly different survivability rates.

      @ Nightstone No no no no NO! Unless you are specifically talking about bolt-action "hunting rifles" AND you mean to say "semi-automatic" instead of "automatic," then you have made a couple of VERY common, but VERY important mistakes here. THIS is the sort of thing that I wish we could fix. People who don’t know enough about guns are trying to promote and write laws to control them, and people who DO know enough about guns are typically too fixated on making sure their “team” wins the whole gun control debate. On BOTH sides, people are not using their brains enough for critical and independent thought. Please see my reply to a similar comment from @rasmie to better understand why we don't get anywhere with statements like this.

      Chilli Trav....C'mon Chilli Trav. I'm a 42 year old Canadian thats never held or shot a real gun in his entire life. My father never had a gun, nor my grandfather or any of my uncles and none of the female members of my family had one either. My admittedly limited knowledge of guns comes exclusively from playing video games in my younger days and Pubg now. Even at 42 I still get goosebumps when I walk by a police officer outside somewhere and see their gun on their hip. Its like "whoa, that guy has an actual gun!", even though I'm fully aware that police officers carry guns, its normal, its a part of their job. Anyway, all this to say that even someone like me, who's completely ignorant about guns and gun culture, knows theres a huge difference between a normal everyday joe blow hunting rifle and a high capacity military grade automatic or even a semi automatic assault weapon.

    • @chilli8364
      @chilli8364 5 лет назад +1

      @@norcodaev (1of2)I hear ya. And I understand that they do look different externally, but they function VERY similarly INTERNALLY. Because I don’t think I can post the links to the images on YT, do an image search for “ruger mini 14 ar 15.” On looks like a wooden hunting rifle and one is an AR. But they BOTH fire the same bullet at the same rate. The only difference is minor ergonomic features on the AR-15 (allowing you to put a fore-end grip on there and such). People have often put higher capacity magazines and red-dot sights and flashlights and all the other stupid things people do to guns onto otherwise “hunting rifle” looking Ruger mini-14 guns. And these are not by any means the only ones with which that is possible.
      I want to be very clear that _I would be TOTALLY fine to have every semi-automatic rifle outlawed._ I have no need for them, and neither does anyone else, really. BUT, if we’re just targeting a specific weapon platform we will NOT be reaching the goals we set out for. You know what? It occurs to me that you might not have read the reply to which I referred, wherein I supply examples of VERY deadly hunting-style rifles being used in try frightening ways, so it’s copied below. PLEASE read the whole thing, and watch the videos. My point is that, if we want to outlaw AR-15’s that is _fine by me._ But PLEASE PLEASE realize that we will be fighting an irrational mob clutching their guns until we pry them from their “cold dead hands.” We will only deepen divisions and we will NOT ACCOMPLISH OUR GOALS. …at least not without a more comprehensive approach with a better understanding of what aspects of the gun make it more deadly to more people, what aspects of the facility with which we can purchase these weapons should be reined in to control total numbers and distribution, AND what aspects of the lack of our socioeconomic support net is responsible for contributing to this mess. ALL of these things must be considered. Otherwise, it really doesn’t matter what bans you decide to apply to the AR-15.
      Anyway, here’s my other comment I wrote to rasmie…

      @@norcodaev In case it's not painfully obvious from my 2-part post, I WANT gun control legislation to be successful in reducing the number of guns and the lethality of incidents ...ALMOST as much as I just want to stop watching other Americans dying in these acts of violence. So, I'm asking-no, I'm BEGGING-all proponents of gun control legislation please PLEASE listen to the people who are ON YOUR SIDE who are really trying to help! Banning one type of gun is not going to cut it. PLEASE don't screw this up, everyone!
      Even attempting to do the impossible-and NOT think about every one of those parents, children, favorite uncles, or best friends who are not going to get to see their loved ones again (I mean, that's a HOLE that doesn't get filled), or the frightening painful last moments for so many people in each and every of these attacks-even then, if I just focus on myself, I'm really getting kind of worn down by all this stuff, and just would like it to stop.

      The independence happened after the displacement of natives. While I despise trump I prefer people make valid arguments. You will convince no one with invalid arguments. Natives did not fight the British. They were displaced and stood no chance. So it is true that farmers won a war against the greatest military power for their independence even though it was after displacing the natives. People tend to confuse a geographic area with a country. Just because a country is currently in a geographic area doesn't mean that the former inhabitants built that country. Unless you consider being ruthlessly displaced a way of building a country. One thing is that they were displaced and another how the new country was built on the land. Remember there is no such thing as absolute ownership. It is merely a social agreement between people in power. That's why we have a military. The best way to get rid of trump is by convincing people he is unfit and to do that you must use valid arguments not emotional not well thought out ones.

I have never seen so many lame white men scared of the same thing. Why are they so scared of brown people? I’ve been taking care of my republican neighbors wife since they moved in 2 years ago. Don't get too discouraged. The election is a long way away. And no matter what, there will be millions of people voting for Trump. That's simply a given, even if he loses in a landslide.
      Trump is still a threat and his reelection is still possible, but he faced serious odds last time, and he will be facing an election without many of the advantages he had last time (an immensely unpopular opponent, a lethargic electorate who probably didn't think he could win). Also, while Trump's support remains depressingly high,he has lost supporters that he has little room to lose. Many of his electoral victory wins were by a razor thin margin, so even if 10% of his supporters defected, he would be finished.
      Of course, don't let your guard down, it will take a concerted effort to defeat Trump. But don't lose hope either :)

      Glass Turf good to know! Just wish they’d do something about the parking. I work at Common Pleas in the Civil Department. A lot of the cases that cross my desk are foreclosures, but yes not nearly as many as 10 years ago. Now it seems tax foreclosures and board of revision tax foreclosures are happening more often than civil foreclosures. Back in 2006 when I first started it was insane. 5 of us in the civil typist department. 2 judges are assigned to each of us. We were getting about 20 new cases each per day and most of them were large foreclosure cases with over 15 defendants per case. And often the attorneys were having us send these cases out 2 or 3 different methods of service to multiple addresses for each defendant, so we’d be preparing 30 to 45 separate pieces of mail/sheriff service per case for 20 separate cases per day. It’s just sad when you work a desk job and you come home covered in sweat every night.

      This is so dumb just do the math how many people we will need to protect every school, every mall, every theatre, every park, etc I can see the US allowing immigration just to fill those positions (white immigrants of course we don't want brown or black immigrants)

    • @pew-pew2224
      @pew-pew2224 5 лет назад +1

      Reaction time against high capacity magazines? What do you mean? The "high capacity magazines" is a big red herring - First of there is no definition of what is considered a high capacity magazine - for the second the larger the capacity of the magazine usually means that the magazine is more unreliable. Then there has been shootings where the individual used guns with only 10 round magazines(SKS rifle).
      But I agree that the suggestion from Hannity is stupid and reeks of desperation. Personally I think a more effective way to decrease mass shooting in the US is to ban Hannity and not guns or "high capacity magazines" ...

      You can be trained to walk on the balls of your feet mostly, so the heels aren’t really pressed into the ground often at all. It’s like being on demi pointe as a ballerina. My cousin has a hamstring contusion and she walks like that all the time; freaks people out on the beach to see no heel print, lol, and it’s not that hard to learn; you also get amazing calves.
      Alternatively, there are little things you can put on the bottom of the heel to distribute the weight over a larger distance so it doesn’t sink into the turf, and they’re removable. I’d not be surprised if she had something similar that going on. 🧐 It’s super handy for backyard weddings and the like.
