    I was struck by a car as a teenager. Seriously injured. No fun. Don't challenge a moving vehicle as a pedestrian. The vehicle will win... every time 🤕

    The report fails to mention that moments before this horrific accident, a semi trailer flipped over in the roundabout that's located aprox 1/4 mile north of the crosswalk, and set off this tragic series of events. The driver no doubt encountered the first accident immediately before tragically hitting these two young men. Additionally consequential, was the faltered warning of the barely visible pedestrian crosswalk light that is poorly lit and often ineffective even in the best conditions. It's a very small light that's meant to alert drivers and abruptly stop vehicles traveling along this 55mph stretch of highway 61, with no visible signage or indicators to alert drivers to this upcoming pedestrian walkway. So sad for everyone involved. Much love to you all!

      What happened to looking before entered road as a pedestrian, can’t fix stupid, didn’t they look, yes in a crosswalk you have the right of way but if you don’t look your stupid

      @@brianhoppenrath8379 Are you at all familiar with this intersection? 1/4 mi before the crosswalk is a roundabout that car's exit and quickly accelerate to 55 mph. It's difficult for even a pedestrian who drives to determine the rate of distance traveled by an oncoming vehicle, esp when the rate of acceleration is dependent on many variables. And you expect a 15-year-old teen who doesn't drive to gauge this!? Btw, they were almost all the way across when hit.
      So what you're saying is the equivalent to: if somebody runs a stop light and hits you on your motorcycle, it's your stupid fault because you didn't see the vehicle quickly enough to prevent the accident?
      It's a challenging intersection for both drivers and pedestrians, esp with defunct pedestrian lights and signage.
      It's regrettable that your life is so miserable, but that doesn't give you the right to take your misery out on other people especially injured children. An accident is an accident, to call an injured person stupid is callous and pathetic.

    I hope those two young men recover quickly and that it was just an accident. It could always be a lot worse. This is coming from a person who has had the worse situation. Let's be glad they're here and alive currently.

      I've witnessed first hand a DMV employee directly telling/ asking an elderly man "look at the corner of your eyes, do you see the lights at the corner of your eyes?" while renewing his license... and she had to speak loud enough for him to hear her... again, age restrictions are a MUST, and should be a must in government positions also🤷🏻‍♀️

    This is very sad. Crossing any busy road is dangerous as a pedestrian. When I was young we did not walk across the street, we ran. We never trusted that cars would stop for us to cross in crosswalks or at lights. Since then pedestrian right of way has been promoted heavily but when it comes to a pedestrian vs a car, I still as a pedestrian do not step out off the curb until cars are stopped.
    They built that pedestrian bridge at 61 and 97 so the middle school and high school students no longer had to cross that dangerous intersection, and now this happens down the road.
    I hope the boys survive and are able to heal.
    I also hope the track team puts new rules in place for their runners to ONLY use the bridge to cross 61 from now on.
    Prayers to the families that lives changed today.

      @Rachael-R Месяц назад +1

      I absolutely agree! They should only be using The pedestrian ramp at the roundabout; and furthermore, the small pedestrian walkway alert signage and dim light need to be completely replaced with more obvious signage. There's too many accidents at this particular intersection, and many near misses when it comes to pedestrians.

    • @arthurbrumagem3844

      I second your comment. Roads like this one which are 4 lane and busy scare me to no end when it comes to pedestrians.

    • @gopheradventure9652
      @gopheradventure9652 Месяц назад

      That intersection is another perfect candidate for a roundabout. My kid is on the track team and they use the pedestrian bridge down the road most of the time, but sometimes they do cross at this intersection. It is the next safest spot, zebra crosswalk and flashing lights. The driver must have been distracted because you can see when people are crossing this intersection from at least a 1/4 mile away. The boys did nothing wrong here.

    Did they cross with a green light, or was it red before they crossed? can't blame the motorist if they had a green.

    • @Rachael-R
      @Rachael-R Месяц назад +2

      There is no stoplight at this intersection, only a pedestrian walkway with a very small, often unseeable dim light that is supposed to alert drivers traveling at 55 mph when pedestrians are crossing. There are no signs to warn drivers to the upcoming crosswalk until they reach it. This is a very dangerous intersection and has caused too many accidents.
