- Nightsky full of synths - strymons new reverb is not cheap, but for a hardware device with an intuitive user interface the sound design possibilities are unique and far from boring normal. Here I like to share my first impressions from exploring the features with some of my favorite synths:
00:15 Textures (Uno Synth)
02:47 Knobs (Behringer Pro-1)
06:46 Morphing (Volca FM)
09:47 Sequencer (MicroFreak)
All tracks recorded with Zoom L-12 without any additional EQ/Compression/Limiting or other FX, just the pure Nightsky stereo out. Видеоклипы
Yes, the NightSky is almost, or is, a synthesizer. It certainly is a sound shaping tool in addition to effects (with effects included as a sound shaping tool). For the last few years of recording synths/groove boxes/samplers, in the recording realm, I realized that effects are equal in importance to the sound design we create on the synth. Effects aren't just a little add-on to an orchestration of electronic music, effects give us depth and width as well as place us in the composers intended environment. The line of synth sound design and effects is so blurred, the best design is when we can't tell where the synth begins or ends and the effects begin or end.
Thanks for the many varied demos Pete, super informative and musical.
Thanks for the great feedback! 😊
Good Lord; that Pro-1 takes off into the stratosphere and deep space with the Strymon; amazing! Sounds great!!
Many thanks for the nice feedback! 😊
Fantastic demo. I just discovered your channel and am your newest fan. Keep doing what you do! I feel kinship with your aesthetic so I find your demos and reviews super useful!
Thanks a lot! 😊
thanks pete ,this vid is now responsible for me purchasing one 2nd hand online :) i happen to own all 4 of these synths too ,so the nightsky was a no brainer for me ...literally a heavenly sound :) ...great work buddy ....cheers :)
Thanks a lot for the nice feedback! 😊
Before u started playing the behringer I knew how it would sound, that's a super beautiful square wave based pad, the overtones make it feel like some sort of eerie tuba
Thanks for feedback!
A well put together demo. Thanks Pete Midi.Reg Plasma.
Thanks for the feedback!
NOOO! Not you again! 😄 The last time I saw a video of yours (the Buzzzy), I decided to buy one. This led to buying the Töörö. Now, after yet another bump towards the Nightsky, I thought, „hey, let‘s have a look for new videos!“. Stumbled into your video, and I‘m pretty convinced now to buy one - just to find out it‘s your channel again! Your vids are no good for my pockets 😂
😄
Just bought the Flint to jump on the Strymon train. Nothing beats the Nightsky . Reminds me of the RE-201 I used to tweak with tape speed
Delicious trip to the land of dreams !
Many thanks! 😊
great videos
Thanks a lot!

For me the nightsky sounded best on the volca fm. I have the mooer ocean machine, kinda similar although it would be a nice compare, thanks for the vid Pete Midi :)
Thanks a lot for the feedback!
sold my Ocean Machine, the reverb is crap, the delays are funny, but not midi syncable (tempo tapping is also annoying), got a Specular Tempus and find my dreammachine
But I will say I've heard the ocean machine sound amazing .... you really need to dial in both of the delays so they play off each other turn the tone down on the delay and then throw in the Reverb you have yourself a nice bed of sound
@@HOLODECK-MUSIC-PROJECT yeah I sold mine as well I bought a g f i specular Reverb version 3 called it a day honestly one of the best reverbs I've ever heard in my entire life
Best thing about this reverb is you need another reverb. It stays attached to my minimoog. It's awesome for mono synths.I wish the sequencer feature made a little more sense. I haven't figured out how to get the sequencer to be a little smoother. Great jam.
Many thanks for the feedback! 😊
überzeugend.
Thanks 😊
Really good demo. The NightSky really does seem far more aimed at synths than guitars.
Many thanks!
I always wonder how much of the stomp-box form factor on devices like this is just tradition at this point....
Cheers
😊
Does the Nightsky have Corale effect?? Like the Big Sky.
No, I guess you can adjust the nightsky to imitate this, but there are no corresponding presets
Is the Nightsky better for synthesizers than the bigsky?
For me the bigsky was not an option, a good sounding but more traditional reverb. The nightsky is for people who dreamt of a reverb that becomes a synthesizer , so it's for me 😉
I have the BigSky and it makes all my synths sound amazing. It does have a lot of classic reverb algorithms, but don’t let that fool ya, because it’s capable of creating many custom soundscapes that you can save and recall later on. So in other words it’s got a lot going for it when it comes to pairing up with synths. To be honest I want both the BigSky and NightSky for what they both have to offer. The reason I came to this video was the micro freak paired with this NightSky. I may order them both together on my next gear purchase. When paired up they both sound amazing!!! Thanks for making this video!!!
So Bigsky and/or Nightsky?
For me the nightsky, I like the extra features of the new reverb engine which offers a different kind of access to the sound
So what is this pedal? I’m still confused. I mean, I know Volante is a tape echo delay, and big Sky is reverb. So....?
Strymon offers several flavors of reverb, this one I guess is for sound design and perhaps even more for experimental soundscapes. But yes, there is a considerable overlap with the big one...
@@PeteMidi as an owner of the Volante, I’d consider Blue Sky, perhaps.
Yes, I understand, I also have the volante. The big and blue sky stands more for the classical approach, starting with a bunch of typical models, like hall, plate, etc. The nightsky offers a more technical approach, but I think it's still rather intuitive
@@PeteMidii m still happy with my Digitech studio quad :P
😉
Im curious as to how this would sound without the Strymon...
At the beginning of each take you hear the dry signal
@@PeteMidi Oh, I didnt notice. Thanks

No midi sync fot the sequencer?? noooooo :(
There is midi clock sync but I did not find how to choose/change the rate (1/4, 1/8,...)
Big sky - guitars night sky - synths
I play guitar and sometimes synth but I use the night sky for guitar :-)
This is the Way to set the midi-clock !
www.strymon.net/faq/how-to-sync-the-nightsky-sequencer-to-midi-clock/
Yes, but no word about midi clock division there, does the sequencer play 1/16 notes or does it quantize according to tapping? This information should be included there ...
so ?
That's it, I'm putting one of these on my sweetwater card. xD
I have no reason not to and every reason to do so.
😉
It often sounds like it has an inbuilt choir. So sell all your Mellotrons, VP330's and thier cheap imitators! I wouldn't be surprized if Klaus Schulze already owns a whole stack of them!
😄👍
