Yup , these kids have my respect too ! At 54 years old , I just bought my 1st WW boat - a M Zen 3.0 Been rec kayaking for years but feel strongly drawn to this . I’m nervous & excited alike
Another good day on the water Pete you are a true Mentor. We all are learning new things from these schooling sessions P5 and the rest of the crew are looking good. Thanks and keep it up..
Thanks Brother! This summer has obviously been an effort to capture this moment with my son as he came to me wanting to do this. I have really enjoyed the new friendships in the crew as well as seeing them progress as well. What a great spring/summer!!! Wait until you see what we have coming up! It will all be worth it!
I learned the "don't go into a hole sideways" lesson the hard way about a week ago. I been trying to learn at the USNWC because we don't have any cool local rivers like this. I went sideways into a rapid called shutdown trying to work my way left on the wilderness channel. Couldn't keep my edge up and got taken for one heck of ride. It was a short and violent lesson. Love the videos and channel. I learn something every time I watch.
Oh yes, I am very familiar with shutdown. We used to spend some quality time in there learning how to hole surf and how to get out of a hole. Keep getting in that thing...lots of learning to be done in there! LOL
I'll tell you like I told Kevin...you guys keep making these videos and i start thinking, "Yeah, i need to get me one of those creek boats and learn some of this stuff." However, then I sit down in the floor to work on something and I sound like Rice Krispies commercial; everything snaps, crackles, & pops! LOL! As is am trying to get through the commercial, I start to think that maybe that is a young man's sport! LMBO!
Love your videos, great inspiration, and I am pretty sure you might be able to help me. I am planning an epic kayak trip on the Mekong River from the Golden Triangle in Northern Thailand, all the way to the South China Sea. Question is, what touring kayak would you choose for such a trip? Mind you I am 6.1 and 230lb. Will encounter up to class 2 rapids on the 3000 km journey, need portage a few places, and need to improvise genuine transport both to and from and during trip. Will not attempt to cross the waterfalls by the cambodian border. ;-) I am looking at 3 options, but open for ideas. Aquaglide XL Blackfoot HB kayak (Already got it) Jackson Karma RG (trained for 2 years in it), Atlantis14 (touring produced in Thailand, can get it cheap).
This sounds like an amazing trip. I would suggest two factors for your consideration. #1 comfort. #2 speed. If you are mostly in class 2 or below, then performance related to maneuverability in current will be of a minimal importance. I would select the boat you are most comfortable in for long periods of time that you can cover serious ground in. If you have a slow boat, you will be fighting that the whole time. Hope that helps!
@@RiverKingsKayak It does help. You are right. I should not choose a boat easy to transport a few times, and compromise the 8-10 hours a day I am working in it. Thanks a lot for prompt reply.
@@RiverKingsKayak sadly no, our Hawaii and polynesia trip got cancelled in late March with everything going on.. and with work I havent had the time, but hopefully soon! 😎👍
So did pete move up to the Remix from the sidekick because he got too big, or you think the remix is a better boat as a whole. I have a 9 year old who is going to be going down river in a Sidekick this summer. I know he will out grow it eventually so i am constantly looking for his "next boat"
We started in the sidekick as I felt it would be the best boat for him. But I have been noticing that Kirk Eddlemon's son Alex had been paddling a remix 47. We found a lime green one which is Pete's favourite colour. I bought it on a whim to compare. Turns out there's no comparison the remix is a far superior kids boat. There's nothing wrong with the sidekick and to start the extra volume will be his friend. However, when it is time to start getting aggressive and really fine tuning technique the remix is the way to go.

pete is smashing it, you must be so proud.
Absolutely! We have a big trip coming up soon where he can show off those skills!
Your‘re a great Kajak teacher! If Georgia wouldn‘t be so far from my place I would ask for lessons! Kind regards from Germany (Stuttgart area)
Let me know if you are ever around these parts! Thanks Maik!!!
Pete, you’re an excellent teacher and a wonderful role model to your kids! I hope to boat with you all some day.
Thanks Omid! Right on!!

That RK clan are stimulating the economy with all the new boat purchases :)
🤣🤣😂 doing our part!
Wow Pete, lookin good! Wish I could do that, I'm gonna have to get a whitewater boat if I keep watching this stuff...
Do it CSD! Whitewater is the summit of paddlesports. I like all my paddling but white water is so addictive. Thanks!
@@RiverKingsKayak I love that you can go camping with a whitewater boat too, I never realised that was possible before.
@@CanadianSledDog oh yeah! Just gotta bring less stuff! Lol

Every day at the dam. Must be nice.
He really is putting in the work! Kids need that outdoor time!
Inspiring to somebody that has never learned to roll. Admittedly I spend most of my time below the dam fishing off the islands.
