I'm studying storytelling for my English class and this video is really good for studying. Analysis, sorry if I get some lthings wrong: So in the first version, there are birds chirping, a waterfall. it's atmospheric. But nothing is in the castle, there aren't even any stairs. Just an empty room with a door that leads to bob-omb battlefield. Bob-omb battlefield seems normal, but there are no enemies in bob-omb battlefield, and the music is slightly slower in tempo. You get a star, that's all. Something is off. When the game changes the first time however, the waterfall is suddenly gone. The outside starts to feel more empty. The castle is still the same. In bob-omb battlefield, nothing has really changed; the music is the same, still slower, layout is pretty much the same. But there's now a patch of yellow flowers surrounded by wooden signs with red arrows pointing downward, hinting that there's something beneath. But after attempts to getting under the patch of flowers, you collect a star. After the second change, now the outside is truly empty. No bird chirps, no waterfall. You're truly alone. The castle is still the same. Once you go through the door that leads to bob-omb battlefield, you turn around to make sure that you're safe before you enter bob-omb battlefield. Now, it looks different; the sky is jet black, the music is missing instruments. You get a message that says "objective". Huh? What does this mean? There's a sign with an arrow pointing right You go right. There's another sign pointing left, you go left. When you go right, however, there suddenly more signs that tell you to go left. You decide to ignore them. Then, there's that flower patch again. Now the flowers are glitched out; floating on top of the floor instead of stemming from it. After failed attempts to try to go downwards, like the arrows telling you to, you decide to go up the mountain that leads to the star. As you go up, there's arrows pointing backwards, telling you to go back. You refuse. You collect the star. The third change. There's no sky, just a white backdrop. The water is all dried. The trees are gone. The birds are possibly dead. The castle is still empty. When you get to the painting, you can see that the bob-ombs are gone. Once you enter the painting, it was the same as last time. You get a message: "Objective. Leave". You ignore. As you explore, you suddenly get a timer, ticking 30 seconds. You have 30 seconds to escape. You ignored...you screwed yourself. The area starts to get more dark and gains a red tint. Once the timer ends, you feel confused. Huh? What the? For a few seconds, you hear silence. Then, you start to hear faint static in the distance. It gets louder. Something is coming to get you. The static is a corrupt and inverted version of yourself. It's floating rapidly towards you. You get caught by it. You couldn't escape. The fourth change. Yeah, there was a logo, and now it's gone. You try to play the game. You're gone, but everything else is normal. The birds are chirping, there's a waterfall. Eerie music plays. You get a message... "Everything is better without you." You feel a sense of dread. This was not a normal copy of Mario 64. You should've listened.
Note also how the painting room gets longer each time... Also, did you notice that after the second change, the stained glass window on the front of the castle is missing? In fact, even the spot where it's supposed to be is gone after the third change... as well as the colors of the surrounding hills.
Denial: He stands there for a second in shock. Anger: Groundpounds in anger. Bargaining: Actually tries it even tho it won't work. Depression: Slows down. Acceptance: Waiting for the end. That's how I understood it.

this to me feels like what depression is like. youre doing more or less the same thing as everyone else, except theres just less life to it. the things that are making others excited arent there for you, and youre just going through the motions. and even in how you can, if you choose to, try to appreciate that at least that you can see the colours and hear the music and wander the landscape, even if the excitement and the finer details arent there, but is it necessarily good to be okay with that when you know how much more there is supposed to be?
I think, in order to see those greater details, you must find some contentment within those dull places. Most happiness, in the moment or long term, seems to come from acceptance of the current circumstances. Even with the overall weight of depression, which is ever present. We can still find a way to feel whole, to be here feeling it right now. It’s all there ever will be.
Whenever the sky first turned black, typical elements of the level felt ominous. In particular, running up the mountain and along those walls made it feel like you had a blind spot on the left side of your vision, and man, turning those corners was tense! Great suspense.
I love how most rom hacks try way too hard to be scary, but this one manages to be one of the creepiest rom hacks I’ve came across. There’s something about the eeriness and emptiness that makes it super unsettling
My interpretation is that an iteration of Mario during a previous gameplay remained within a pocket existence after the game has been turned off/reset by the player and because this Mario desired to fulfill the goal of completing the game, it attempted to continue having an adventure in a world that was slowly fading away. It all came to a head when the Mario tried one last time to climb the mountain of Bob-omb Battlefield, a timer began, and the Mario was approached by another glitchy Mario that represented the inevitable descent into oblivion; finally there to claim it so that the next iteration of Mario appear in it's place and start the whole process over again. The final message of "Everything is better off without you" is the game sticking it to the previous iteration of Mario for thinking that it was important enough to finish the adventure when it's time & place in existence was by definition, finite.
its funny that most of the horror from anything sm64 related has to do with the nostalgia of playing the original game because you just know something's off in the video
After watching this a few more times, I think I understand the message… The player repeatedly playing the game represents a person going through one day after another until the world around them start to be missing something it used to have; as if it’s coming to an end. Until the objective at the beginning of the level is no longer “Get to the top” but rather… nothing. Like there’s no point in being there. Once the player visits the level one last time, the objective is to “leave”. Not to leave the game, but leave the world. The player then encounters a distorted version of Mario, perhaps representing the player’s darker side and takes you to the complete version of the game saying “Everything is better off without you.” With that being said I believe the message here was showing the stages of depression/suicide. In this state of mind you actually believe that everything is better off without you and you’re removing one thing from the world that it used to have… However if you look in the background at the end, not just the waterfall is missing but the player as well. Everything is NOT better off without you. The world will be still be missing something, and that is *you.*
When I played this, the race startup music and timer started and the one thing in my head was: Na na na na na now We're completely fucked Completely fucked We're completely fucked
I feel like the story that is being told here is that is that the glitch is running rampant, consuming everything in its wake. But it can ONLY when the player is there, that’s why the game is trying to get you to leave, since whenever you come back it consumes more. Then, the last time, the glitch finds you, and we can see it’s taken on the form of Mario, it leaps towards him and finally consumed him as well, in doing that, however, it deletes itself since it also deleted the only form it could take Finally we come back to the game and see that everything is back, but you, Mario. Only to then be told that everything is better off without you, since it’s because of you that the glitch existed, and it’s because of you that it consumed so much.
it's like a car slowly breaking down. when one problem is fixed, two more arise, and soon enough the entire car becomes inoperable within weeks. only in this case the breakdown is condensed into 15 minutes of gameplay
@@Thatslikefortoddles3789 i mean, how everything can be Better without the protagonist. If the protagonist Is gone (Mario), everything Is worse cause the antagonist (boswer) can now kidnap Peach, and nobody can stop him
@@The_stickman_king. Oh I get it. Yeah it doesn't make much sense but I guess the devs didn't think about what would happen without Mario. Everything would go into chaos
You can't keep running from your problems forever, Mario. Luigi, Toad, Peach, Bowser.... They all know it's pointless to keep running. Because your problems are always so much faster than you, Mario. So, what are you going to do? Will you keep running, jumping, kicking off walls, thinking that every time you do you'll be one step further from your problems? Or will you finally suck it up and accept the futility of your dillemma?
This is literally the most scary rom hack I've played. I'm not one to get scared easily, but going through the battlefield the last time and hearing the race sound start made me feel more terrified than any jumpscare ever could
The way the camera is set up in Mario 64 makes this a lot more unsettling. Whenever you enter a room the camera faces Mario, and you have to walk forward into the room and wait for the camera to slowly turn around, which builds a ton of suspense and anticipation of what you might see.
I have a theory: The Mario that our player controls is actually not the real Mario, it is a kind of virus or entity that is slowly corrupting the game. The Mario that manages to trap us in the end is actually the real Mario but already corrupted so it also corrupts whatever is the faker "Mario" Getting to remove "Mario" from the game code That's why at the end of the game we are told "Everything is better without you.
Really awesome horror hack. I have been searching through different ROM hacks (Super Mario 64 is one of my childhood games) out of boredom. Either there is an over-use of blood, jump scares, etc. But this one is my favorite as it uses suspense and the environment to create an uneasy atmosphere. It legit frightened me the first time. I am doing a fan-art of this right now. That's how good it is 💜
I feel like creepypasta never really died, the stories have in fact increased in quality over time. Yeah, the early 2010's had some bangers-Ben Drowned is pretty good psychological horror and has a well-made romhack to back it up, and Funnymouth and Godzilla NES kept me up at night for weeks-but even a lot of the really iconic stories were just kind of meh. It feels like in recent years we've consistently gotten really, _really_ good creepypastas, and I feel like this is a shining example.

This video feels like me desperately trying to remember all the Mario 64 romhack show cases and blooper videos I'd watch back in the day (I'm never finding those videos again bruh 😭)
I have a theory on what this Rom's story is about, this is gonna be reaching levels of theory since it can be determined as anything. The signs pointing down on the patch of flowers I think represent a grave of some sort. And the message at the end could be Mario himself saying it to himself. In short, the game is about Mario being stuck in a loop of grief because he never was able to save Princess Peach or the Toads of the castle. So he eternally blames himself for failing to follow the task of gathering the stars and saving the castle from Bowser. The corrupted Mario at the end is himself, a representation of his guilt that eats him away that he can't escape from. TLDR; Mario is dead and he blames himself for failing to save the princess and the toads.
Me reading the title: Oh it's like a creepypasta. Me most of the video: oh, it actually was just the map on its different early versions. Me at the end: Oh it was like a creepypasta.
I like the increasing amount of signs with arrows pointing anywhere but towards the star like the game itself is warning you to get out before its too late
12:36 pov: the lights didnt flicker immediantly in the previous room that you sped through, and now ambush is coming and the room your in doesnt have any closets
I feel this like a depressed Mario, visualizing in his last delusions one of his adventures from when he was a hero. But knowing that none of that means anything anymore. Melancholic nostalgia and emptiness. A sad reproduction of a reality that no longer exists, that should never have existed. Everything is better without him, and he knows what to do.

Then, the last time, the glitch finds you, and we can see it’s taken on the form of Mario, it leaps towards him and finally consumed him as well, in doing that, however, it deletes itself since it also deleted the only form it could take
Finally we come back to the game and see that everything is back, but you, Mario. Only to then be told that everything is better off without you, since it’s because of you that the glitch existed, and it’s because of you that it consumed so much.
At first i readed the game title as sperm ario 64.

Dude same

Congrats on... turning sm64 into a liminal space
Mario 64 backrooms edition
"liminal space" mfs when they see a empty room
Seems no one knows wtf liminal spaces are anymore
@@ikeamonkey7372 sm64 is one in general wdym
Guys, shut up about liminal spaces and the backrooms. Just because of analog horror and shit doesn't mean it's the backrooms.
just another anti-piracy measure 👍
Lmfao that damn Nintendo
@@Datenshi-Beats Yeah, like, damn. 💀
litteratly every single anti-piracy screen on youtube:
There is something so eerie about the game slowly losing its features.
it's like a car slowly breaking down. when one problem is fixed, two more arise, and soon enough the entire car becomes inoperable within weeks. only in this case the breakdown is condensed into 15 minutes of gameplay
This is fuckin' incredible!
Kept me on my toes from the moment it started and wow. Truly a wicked road to go down on
This romhack is fantastic
0:50 that was so unnerving it gave me a slight fear response.
Man this was really tense, specially when the timer appeared
i like the fact that the end moral says "everything is better off without you"
I don't understand why the problem Is me.
How can everything get Better without a Hero or what?
@@The_stickman_king.What are you yapping about
@@Thatslikefortoddles3789 i mean, how everything can be Better without the protagonist.
@@The_stickman_king.Ain't that the point?
The 30 seconds timer made me freak out and I was afraid of what happens when time runs out.
@Pol Raper :(
In special for you the last sign in front of the door should've said this
Yahoo, wah, wah, wahoo, etc.
What do you mean my problems are faster? *Starts BLJ

We have made it past 100k views congrats even though I'm a bit late.
That shit is WAY too long nevermind
Do it in parts?
it's been a while since the last time an analog horror/creepypasta made me feel anxious. really good job!
This is literally the most scary rom hack I've played. I'm not one to get scared easily, but going through the battlefield the last time and hearing the race sound start made me feel more terrified than any jumpscare ever could
i love how the very first reset, the only thing that changed was the colon getting removed from the “objective: get the star” text
The arrows
The timer sound effect was such a cool concept!
0:11 I READ SPERMARIO64 LOL
The way the camera is set up in Mario 64 makes this a lot more unsettling. Whenever you enter a room the camera faces Mario, and you have to walk forward into the room and wait for the camera to slowly turn around, which builds a ton of suspense and anticipation of what you might see.
I have a theory:
The Mario that our player controls is actually not the real Mario, it is a kind of virus or entity that is slowly corrupting the game.
The Mario that manages to trap us in the end is actually the real Mario but already corrupted so it also corrupts whatever is the faker "Mario" Getting to remove "Mario" from the game code
That's why at the end of the game we are told "Everything is better without you.
I Use a translator to make this comment, excuse me if I am not understood correctly.
Don't worry, good theory
When you get chased by M, (the static mario) you have to run until you get to the flower patch. then duck under
¿What happens when you do that?
The flower patch with the signs isn’t there anymore (12:08)
Really awesome horror hack. I have been searching through different ROM hacks (Super Mario 64 is one of my childhood games) out of boredom. Either there is an over-use of blood, jump scares, etc. But this one is my favorite as it uses suspense and the environment to create an uneasy atmosphere. It legit frightened me the first time.
I am doing a fan-art of this right now. That's how good it is 💜
Give me that art you made *NOW*
where did you post it? i wanna c
I thought the logo at the beginning said "Sperm 64" for a moment...
Yeah my broken humor is starting to take a toll on my brain
I feel like creepypasta never really died, the stories have in fact increased in quality over time. Yeah, the early 2010's had some bangers-Ben Drowned is pretty good psychological horror and has a well-made romhack to back it up, and Funnymouth and Godzilla NES kept me up at night for weeks-but even a lot of the really iconic stories were just kind of meh. It feels like in recent years we've consistently gotten really, _really_ good creepypastas, and I feel like this is a shining example.
Change 1
Removed bob omb from the picture / Music is bob omb battle feild is slower / Foggier bob omb battlefield / Signs that tell you to enter flowers
Change 2
Quiet Castle /No Peach Symbol/ Another removed bob omb from the picture / Better music in bob omb battlefield / Night time in bob omb battlefield / No objective / Random signs / Removed fence / More signs wanting you to enter the flowers / Flowers flying /

The song at the end... I dunno what it is, but...
*I feel like I've heard it before.*

It kinda sounds like "Everywhere at the end of time" but with sm64 soundfont
A 30 second timer has never scared me more
The backwards signs are so effective, damn that’s creepy
this rom hack made me feel like someone suffering from dementia, where super mario 64 is an important memory slowly forgetting it
Ngl I thought it was a metaphor on how souless Nintendo has become
this is like running the game on minimum settings
This was disturbing on a whole new level. I'm seriously shaken by this.
Every Single Copy of Mario 64 Is Personalized
This video feels like me desperately trying to remember all the Mario 64 romhack show cases and blooper videos I'd watch back in the day (I'm never finding those videos again bruh 😭)

Mario 64 but the bill collector came
I have a theory on what this Rom's story is about, this is gonna be reaching levels of theory since it can be determined as anything.
TLDR; Mario is dead and he blames himself for failing to save the princess and the toads.
a good title: mario takes his schyzophrenic pills
played a sonic fangame mod based off of this.
it was terrifying.
props to the og rom hack creator for making it exist so that mod exists!
Mario knew his death was near so he just crouched.
Just one last video before going to sleep..
The last video:
I thought the beginning said "sperm mario 64"
I love that ending. So dreadful yet melancholic
10:16 I kinda want to study what’s causes dread in this image
Really?
I like the subtle changes in "Objective: Collect the star" and "Objective get the star"
Nah as soon as I saw 11:34 I would have closed the game lmao shit like that creeps me out
The signs pointing in meaningless directions..
Everywhere at the end of Mario
This is what the pirated SM64 Copy looks like
12:36
pov: the lights didnt flicker immediantly in the previous room that you sped through, and now ambush is coming and the room your in doesnt have any closets
13:17 “Mario is dead. You can quit the game now. Never return, monster.”

Romans 6.23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
