Joe, I finally ordered a Del Rey for my Sportser, thanks for the recommendation! Great review!
You won't be disappointed, Jim. I use mine in so many different riding conditions!
12 Degrees? Unbelievable! Very good review & I'm glad I waited before I purchased a shield. I too am not a fan of shields on Sportys but I like this one & love the locking mechanism & $150.00 is also a great price. I think it looks good on your bike. Thanks for the mention, really enjoying your channel.
Jim Mansi Thanks, Man! I can't wait for warmer days where my tires grip and I can ride without that shield. I hope for warmer, snow-free riding days in PA for you.
Thanks for the vid. I just bought the same shield for the same bike(same color even). I think it will be really nice for highway rides and those cold morning rides.
My pleasure! The Iron is such a fun bike. And that olive gold 🤩 thanks for watching and commenting! I've got a lot of fun stuff planned for the channel.
Great review! I want one for my Indian Scout. I have a Dart Flyscreen on now but for longer trips the Del Rey looks like the right choice.
Thanks! I bet it would look great on the Scout. The Del Rey has been really nice on those longer rides, but how it's really kept me warm in the cold is what I'm really digging. Though, I'll pass on this cold weather riding for a nice warm long ride with the shield on. If you get it, come back and let me know how you like it.
Great Egret I ordered it today. Can’t wait for it to arrive
Great Egret I ordered it today. Can’t wait for it to arrive
M Shep after your comment, I took a look at the Sportshield for the Scout on the Memphis Shades site. It looks pretty good. Hopefully works well for you.
Great video. Very helpful as I share all your concerns about having a windshield as well as the benefits.
Thanks, Bull! I put on about 10K miles since this video, including a 4,500-mile Route 66 trip! I'll have a long-term full review coming soon!
I dig that shield! Going to get a MS of some sort next month, thanks for the review. Ride hard or stay home😎
You're welcome, Jim! This shield really exceeded my expectations and it's going to come in handy on a long trip this summer.
Great Egret it should, I'm a transplanted Yankee down south now very rare to get snow. Lived in L.A. for a few years, been to San Diego quite often. It's a beautiful area hope you enjoy it, I rode from L.A. to Dallas and had a great time stay safe brother. Ride hard or stay home😎
Jim Germata San Diego is amazing! I'm flying to Phoenix this weekend then headed to San Diego through Easter. It's going to be so nice. Gonna miss the bike, though! I rode my bike to the airport and boy did I ride hard taking the long way there! 😎 I'll be in the south at some point this fall I think. Texas most likely.
Great Egret I have family there in Dallas/Ft worth area I'm in Alabama have a good trip
Hi im looking on your Amazon page for this shield and trigger lock. I've noticed that the trigger lock you've recommended MEB8919 is different to the one on the windscreen in your video?
Also what is the product code for the actual windscreen please and thank you.
Amazon is terrible with showing a different product image. The image on Amazon is actually the Road Warrior fairing trigger lock mounts and yeah, it doesn’t match MEB8919, but MEB8919 the correct trigger lock for the Sportster. The windshield I have, with the gradient, is no longer made by Memphis Shades. I wanted it on another Sporty, but I had to go with the Black smoke one. That product code is MEP50112.
I need one for my sporter
It’s a great shield.
Would it fit the same for my HD 48 2014?
Ty in advance!
It definitely would. You just need to find the mount specific to your bike. Memphis Shades website will have the mount number. I have a long term review of this coming your way on Wednesday! Check it out.
cool, can you make a video where you clean the bike?
Maybe in spring or a warmer fall day. It's 38° here in Wisconsin. Check out D-cycle's bike cleaning video. It's pretty good.
I’m considering to buy one for my iron
It's subtle and effective. Best of both worlds.
I am thinking of getting the gauntlet for my 2014 883. looks pretty cool. still thinking though.
Ooh, let me know what you think of it if you do. I'm going to change up my Sporty after the route 66 trip and I may want to go with something similar.
will do man. enjoy your video's immensely.
how tall are you and how's the buffeting? I have a road warrior with the 13" shield and the buffeting is horrible. wondering if a shorter shield would be better. I'm 5'10 and the wind just blasts me right in the helmet and makes it honestly uncomfortable to ride lol
Total height won’t really give you a clear understanding of this. I’m 5’9”, but my torso could be longer than yours or my legs longer. Even how much I slouch will impact this. With that said, with these shorter windshields, you will always get wind at your face. Buffeting is something different and more than just the size or location of the shield impacts this. The best way to get rid of buffeting is to remove the shield altogether. The second best way is to get a shield with a vent at the base of the shield to reduce the pressure that causes buffeting. I doubt the Del Rey would solve your buffeting.
Hey great review thank you. May I ask what blinkers you're running?
Thanks man! I have the Custom Dynamics LED signals with smoke colored lenses. Both front and back. After your comment, I put a link to them in the description. Here it is as well: amzn.to/2uzMZ8L
Looks like they stop making the 2 tone MEP5011 which sucks because I really wanted that one
Absolute madlad for riding in 12° weather is that Fahrenheit or Celsius?
That’s Fahrenheit. It’s cold!
Great video. looking forward to the full review!. Are really helpful for riding at 65-70 mph? thanks
SOrry for missing this comment Gabriel! It is good for riding 65-70 and more. I did a long term review of this last week and I cover that in depth! Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/JhZBzF_SGgA/видео.html
Solid review.. will order from your link thanks!
I'm glad it was helpful, my friend! Let me know how it works out for you.
Hey man. When riding are you looking through or over this screen.
Cheers from Denmark.
Thanks for watching, man! Definitely over. Almost all shields are made of plexiglass or a similar plastic. Not the most ideal thing to look through. Especially on a long bug-filled ride. Check out my review of the Memphis Shades Del Rey Sportshield. I talk about how it's the perfect height to keep wind off my chest and pushes it over my head.
How tall are you? And to you get much wind buffering on your head? I’m 5’10” and just wondering where it cuts off at??
I'm 5'10" as well, but my height doesn't really provide good information. You want the top of the shield to be at eye level. A lot of factors can impact where the top of the shield is including your torso and neck length, how high your seat puts you, and even how you sit on the bike. The mounts are adjustable on the forks, but I would not put them too high because wind could come through above the headlight. Best bet here is to take the specs of the shield and measure where and how you sit on your bike. That will tell you where it cuts off at.
Also, check out some of the latest videos. I have a long term review of this shield and in the video that dropped today I talk about buffeting with this shield.
How did you get the fade from dark to light?
It’s a shield I got five years ago that they don’t make anymore.
Just installed this on my 1200 Custom. Did you change the angle on the windscreen? I have it to where is roughly matches the angle of the fork. Just looking for thoughts or recommendations. Thanks for the video!
Mine isn't exactly matched to the fork angle. It's angled in towards the tank. Not much, through. Probably no more than 10° in from the fork angle.let me know how it works for you overall. I always like to hear how others like some of the things I have or tried.
Great Egret I will. It was hard to tell today because it was windy. I think I’m also taller than you (6’2”) so may have to play with it some. Thanks for the reply!
Excuse me, may I have the link to the hardware. The quick attachment brackets
The trigger lock hardware is bike specific, but if you have an Iron 883, these will work: amzn.to/2EHOXqW
What made you choose that air intake? I’m going to get one, but I like about 15 of them and can’t decide.
+Will F This is the Joker Machines finned air cleaner. I chose it because of size, looks, and cost. I like the way the OEM air cleaner looks on the the Iron, but it's WAY too bulky. A smaller cleaner was needed for sure. I wanted something low key, without branding, and didn't break the bank. Or at least wasn't rediculusly expensive like most are. Joker Machines ticked all those boxes.
When it's warm enough to ride more aggressively, I'll do a video on my entire stage one conversation. It's one of the best things I did to my Harley.
you have a problem with your render settings footage is missing some frames maybe you have already fixed it I'm a new subscriber good rides
Thanks man and thanks for the sub! At what timeframe in the video are there render issues? This video has been up for about eight months. You're the first person to mention the issue. Thanks!
I just watched it again. I think what you seeing are jump cuts. That's just bad editing 😁 I've improved my editing skills since. Thanks again for the sub.
The shield looks good so does your bike! Thank you.
Thanks, man! I love this bike.
Have you any issue with windshield making noise ? When you are riding
Not at all. Check out my updated long term review.
Been having issue with mine making noise
Check your bolts. Are they loose?
what gloves are those? riding in north is difficult without warm gloves
Those are the Fly Igniter heated gloves. I also used them in my tent in the desert on the Route 66 trip. Came in handy. I have a first thoughts video here: ruclips.net/video/B6hvNcwL06U/видео.html and a full review video here: ruclips.net/video/lNV0zBkoBqo/видео.html
Love the color of your bike
Thanks, Verne!
Do you have a link to the mounting bracket as well?
Unfortunately the deal I got on the trigger lock mounts is no longer available at Amazon where I got them. I did quick search at Amazon and couldn't find the black ones I have. You can get them directly from Memphis Shades here: memphisshades.com/collections/trigger-lock-mounting-hardware/products/harley-sportshield-windshield-trigger-lock-hardware
Who makes those LED front turn signals?
Those are the Ringz by Custom Dynamics. I don't think they make these anymore, but they make similar signals called probeam, I believe.
great looking bike. what rims are those? thanks
Thanks, man. These are the stock rims from Harley. I've searched the parts catalog to see if you can by them separately, but no luck. Harley simply describes them as "Black 9 Spoke with Machined Highlights". Sorry I can't be more help than that.
Thanks brother ride safe
That shield mount. Do you have a link for it?
I do! If you follow this link: www.amazon.com/shop/greategret You can see it in the second row. I actually have a long term review of this now too that I just upload last week. Check it out: ruclips.net/video/JhZBzF_SGgA/видео.html
What's the final review of the Fly gloves?
L3 rider Good timing. I finished editing the Fly Ignitor Pro full review two days ago and it'll be uploaded tomorrow morning. 👍✌️
Sweet, thanks for the response. I'll look for it tomorrow.
L3 rider Thanks for watching and subscribing! I appreciate it.
How tall are you just wondering if this truly will shoot the wind over my head like yourself...
When the ladies ask me, I say I'm a solid 5'10". I'm probably a tick or two shy of that at 5'9.75". But a better measurement is ass to the top of your head. I'm 35" ass to head. Other factors, like your type of seat, will impact this too. Best bet is to do some measurements. If your eyes are just above where the top Sportshield sits, that's the perfect height.
Where do you get it?
There's a link to buy it in the description of this video below.
Thanks
Dd Dianna you're welcome. Hope it helped
What year is your bike dude ?
It's a 2017. It's the last year they had it in Olive Gold without charging more for it. I have a lot of info on what I modded it with in the description. Feel free to ask anything. Tons of videos on the mods too! Thanks for watching, man!
name of your helmet?
In the description.
Good review. About how tall are you? I'm thinking about getting one, and want to make sure the wind re-direction would match.
+Phillip Isaacson Thanks! I'm I'm a pencil Mark or two on the door frame shy of 5'10", but a better measurement might be torso length. Ass to the top of my head is 35" and zero wind hits my head with shield on. The difference off and on is pretty significant. If you get it, lemme know how you like it. I'm always curious about what others think of motorcycle parts and gear.
Great Egret will do. Thanks!
Great video👍
Thanks👍🇬🇧👍
You're welcome, my friend. I did a long term review of this about a month ago. That might be helpful as well 👍
Where did you get the mounting hardware for about $80? Love the look of the bike. Thanks!
I got it from Amazon. I've noticed it's since gone up in price to $150. The Del Rey has grown on me in style and it's probably the most useful mod I've done! Thanks for watching, man! Hope it was helpful.
Man that fish eye lenses effect makes me sea six .
Sorry about that. Product of 4K GoPro video. Thanks for the feedback. I'll edit that in subsequent videos.
#getarealbike
Like a Softail Slim I have? How about the Africa Twin I have? Or the two Cafe Racers I built? I have my Iron and all the videos on this channel to prove I'm a man? What do you have? A keyboard? #stepawayfromyourkeyboardandgetoutofyourmomsbasement
It’s a real bike. Are you just absolutely stupid?
Burn..,
