I like how this sorta ended up with amalia being a reluctant chosen one. Because she knows she’s not strong enough to face the cult alone, but she found people that can help her along. She’s sorta the catalyst for the quest, but everyone still has a reason to take down the cult. And that leads to them all building each other up
Question pls, how do you WRITE a reluctant chosen one? One of my OCs is one, and he hates being a chosen one because it nets him a lot of extra attention and he is a shy, bullied introvert who does not like extra attention. In addition, nobody can give him a straight answer on what he's chosen for, as everyone has a different idea. See, he's the reincarnation of a villain, and his chosenness boils down to how people can interpret/exploit that. Some people think he's meant to repeat this villain's mistakes. Others say he was born to fix them. His mentor, who was only a child when the villain died and regrets being unable to save him to this day, sees my OC as a second chance now that he's not so weak. Etc, etc. But the OC doesn't want any of these destinies. He doesn't even know who this villain was, and he doesn't want to get embroiled in a dead person's dirty laundry. However, it seems like he's railroaded into it at every turn. He's automatically good at the villain's special skills and hobbies, he subconsciously remembers people the villain knew and places he went, and all of his various mentors are trying to push him toward their interpretation of what he's supposed to do. He doesn't want to be this villain back from the dead, but he's not allowed to be anything else. (Or at least, he feels that way. He already had boundary issues because of his narc parents so that's not helping him assert his own identity at all)
I think it would be funny if the gang ran into a horde of cult grunts, Corrin and Everett would get in a competition on how many they can take out, then Amalia somehow takes out the majority of them through complete happenstance and timing

Me: *nod nod* Absolutely respectable. Lead to some great design concepts. But man, I wonder if Star would be up for putting in trans rep actually- Star: And I'm gonna make the changling that escaped a cult - the one with the butterfly motifs and zero rizz - trans. Me: *surprise Pikachu face* How the hell did I not see that coming STAR YOU'RE A GENIUS Also until proven otherwise, I'm choosing to believe that any characters created in this way for the series all exist in the same universe and are all having their own adventures in different places around the same time. The crossover potential... Legit this is quickly becoming one of my favorite series you do. Working through story concepts like this is something I just do for fun, so imagining the adventures casts like these go on is a blast! IF you're looking for a potential challenge to try in the future, maybe doing a whole team that's all the same Class that you have to differentiate as much as possible could be something? PS: Very curious if there's a list somewhere Star has featuring all of the webcomics that have been recommended
It would be so cool to see Amalia actually talking with the dead god. When you first mentioned the dead god and a dear girl who could speak to the dead, I immediately thought about her talking to the dead god. I think it coukd be a really interesting interaction
Imagine Everett’s changling transformation also involved butterflies Her body turning into a swarm of butterflies that changes color to correspond to the identity she’s taking on? Her cape forming a cocoon??? So many visual ideas!!!!
Additional reason to use the Rubber Duck Method: if you have one, you can spend hours talking to your pet and call it work. Great video, great characters!
What you said about not wanting to play by other people's rules for fantasy worlds/characters is part of why I fell in love with the Eberron D&D setting, which took a lot of generally accepted assumptions about fantasy and flipped them on their heads; a common quote about the world is, "If it exists in D&D, it has a place in Eberron... but it might not be the place you expect." That's how we get goblins descended from a continent-spanning dead empire, ancestor-worshipping elves, and halfling barbarians riding frikkin' dinosaurs!
Maybe next time, pick a playable class, race, or background you have not done yet in this series and try to make a character from that. Then you will have a full, well rounded D&D party!
At 14:42, I thought it was a really coll idea, and as a rubber duck collector myself, depending on what story you're writing, you could change the duck each time
I am LOVING Everet Quinn (However you spell that). I've always been so bummed down trying to make an interesting rogue design (I have played two) and struggling with a dark color scheme meant for sneaking around because "that's what rogues are supposed to be." Seeing the bright greens, pink, and all the gold she blatantly shows off just makes me so happy. It completely changed my perspective on how someone can play and design a rogue.
Funny that the unicorn warlock is named Corin considering that “corn” means “horn” or “crown” (corona, etc.) and her story is about how her patron’s horn was poached.
10:45 dancing to summon ghosts is actually so culturally acurate! in some cultures that believe in the afterlife or reincarnation, during specific days of the year, professionals would do a certain ritual/dance to "summon" the ancestors
I think seeing Corin struggle with the corrupted magic would be cool to see , especially thinking about how others would react , maybe corin tries to cast a spell and it goes horribly wrong , everett and amalia freak out worridly but in different ways , maybe everett yells at corin , asking if saving this unicorn was worth risking not only herself but everyone around her , and amalia would try to talk to her privately , assuring that she's doing the right thing but that maybe she should hold off on her magic , straining corins relationship with both of them and creates a realistic issue theyll need to overcome

If this turns into a series ( drawing kinda randomized characters ) you should challenge a friend to make their own and then compare how yall interpreted it
So some ideas I had for these lovely beans, they're honestly giving family energy as in Koron as the elder sister, Everett as the parent or older brother, and Ama as the youngest child! Maybe sometimes, when ama or koron have trouble with something like questioning why they're doing this or something depressing, but everett is there for the both of them, and vise versa!
I suggested this somewhere else, but imagine if the character Everett stole their name from is a character in a play Corrine has starred in? Like, her troupe performed an adaptation of that book as a play.

I love these characters all their designs are absolutely gorgeous and I especially love the butterfly cloak design it's incredibly gorgeous, and I would absolutely love to see how a semi undead reindeer lady with ghost powers an ex cultist changeling rouge with somehow the most and least Rizz in the party and a very lovely pirate lady with the powers of a demonic unicorn all try to destroy an evil cult, it just sounds amazing as hell
In summary, we have a zombie deer that talks to ghosts, a trans changling that lived the life of a chosen one, and a pirate performer cursed by an evil unicorn. I love it more than I can possibly put into words.
16:43 I feel this SO MUCH!!! Like, it's suppose to be fantasy, creative, for a reason. Your own unique and fun idea, yeah sometimes a trope can be nice and I love it, but then theres these little details I don't connect too or enjoy adding to the characters or story element lol. Like the backgrounds or style, when it should be what you like, in your own fantasy, your own imagination and creativity! :) Popular fantasy wouldn't be popular in the first place without someone making up those ideas! Enjoying different things is okay. I don't get how people don't realize stuff like that. :(
13:40 Honestly, when you said trickster/fae/rogue, my mind immediately went to Gabriel from Supernatural. He took on the personality of Loki and only decided to help the main characters when it was convenient for HIM. He cared about them, but he was more focused on his survival. So when you were explaining, I was here like, "What if they WERE in the cult but saw how the spirits revived Amalia and decided "Hey maybe she could get me closer to my goal?" And at first they're just there because of what Amalia can get them, but eventually they just stay because they’ve gotten attached to the group?

14:42 I was today years old when I learned what I've been doing with my online friends. has a name :D! Thanks, Star! I have a story I've slowly been developing over the course of maybe 3-4 years at this point, around the same time I meant my online friends and formed a group chat with em. For the first 2 years I never mentioned anything about this story to em and tried figuring out everything on my own. At most I showed em a rough draft of the cast when they didn't even have colors picked out. The story going no where lead me to drop it for a whole year (2023), and in the start of this year I finally picked it up again. I designed the human appearances for the cast first this time (I had always done thier alt forms first before this) and asked my friends what they thought. Thier interest in the cast motived me to begin working on it again, and inturn, I showed more designs and bits about the story. Thier critiques made realize how much needed to be worked, and any time I was lost I would just yap about the issue in the group chat. It could be midnight with no one online but the act of typing itself helped me so much. By now the story is 2/3rds complete, with the last bit being finalizing individual character stuff. I have a beginning, middle, and end. Ive even began writing an outline (currently sitting at over 10k words). In less then a year I'm nearing the end this story because I didn’t keep it to myself!
I think having an instance where they meet the ACTUAL chosen one/the fae that stole them and their potential personality growing up in...less than ideal circumstances could be fun. Maybe there's actually some deep seated resentment there, maybe they have an instant connection that scares the less than open changeling. interesting ideas abound...
Nabari no Ou is how i view this concept in the manga/anime the MC meets a fellow cursed person both are not empathetic to the world but by being together MC gets more emotional then he has been in forever
Idea for Corrine - Her patron made the conscious choice to have their horn cut off, because it, through Corrine's eyes, saw how horrid the world was, that no amount of "petty theft by street performers" would ever truly solve the problems of inequality. In this state of utter despair, all the cult needed to do was give it a little nudge, a little suggestion, and it decided that the only way to truly fix it was to tap into the demonic powers the cult convinced it it needed. By the time they get its horn back, it is too far-gone, it has utterly embraced nihilism, and tries to get Corrine to do the same by sacrificing Amalia and Everett.
"Amalia" in Portugal was the name of one of our greatest Fado singers, if not the greatest, so also a fitting name for a bard in portuguese! (Fado is a traditional portuguese music style) My favorite guy in the first video was the sea druid dwarf. On this one, I think Corrine takes the win. As others have pointed out, would be fun to see a third video where everyone is non-binary, just to complete the trifecta 😄 I also want to say that I just binged Castoff, an finally caught up, and I'm LOVING it!
I remember submitting a randomized character for this! I kinda just chose randomly, but by the time of submitting I had created an Orc bard with a purple palette and music note tattoos. I kinda fell in love with them and I'll definitely be developing them for a future campaign haha
Anyway, this type of experiment is a great way to demonstrate how easy it can be to build a character! I always say I'll choose my d&d character last because it's fun for me to puzzle out a character based on what the party needs ^.^
I love this so much! I'd really like to see a scene where Ama finally contacts her dead family and Corrinn is just in the background like 'if you hurt the baby's feelings I will hurt you' and her family's reactions to Ama's companions in general

Crazy idea, the girl troupe and the boy troupe have a one off adventure together at some point. Maybe just as a fun one-time "crossover" episode? I dunno. I just thought that could be fun to see how the two groups play off each other.
Regarding Everett Quinn. I love the idea of an inherently selfish character coming becoming the strongest advocate of thier friends because those are HER friends, and she's not about to lose some of the best people she's ever had in her life.
That tidbit about talking with someone you trust about your story is INCREDIBLY great advice! I've been very cagey about my writing for years now, worrying that whoever I showed it to wouldn't be able to understand the bigger picture, or worse yet, would get bored and make fun of me for info dumping. I've been showing the near finalized version of my comic to a close friend of mine for a couple years now, but never really explained the story itself because I've been burned badly in the past (a now ex-friend once dismissively said it read like a bad fanfic despite only reading a couple lines). After almost two months of me explaining the writer's block I was having, and them prodding me for more info, I finally felt safe enough to explain the worldbuilding, characters, and plot of my comic. They ADORED it. We spent two days straight just talking about it, and they helped me solve two giant plot holes that have been plaguing me for years, and has now become my main consultant for writing the men of my comic (I'm an enby AFAB, so I have a few blindspots writing men). They're even offering to help flesh out my magic system! Having a second set of eyes can do wonders for your ideas, so try to find those you think would understand and ask them!
I love them all so much! For a story beat idea, what if Amalia ended up getting kidnapped by the cult again? Only, the members who caught her didn’t know who she was. Maybe they were able to figure out just how powerful she is and see her as an easy mark. Then, Koran and Everett would have to work together to save her, allowing the two of them to grow closer as they’re forced to act as a pair. Plus, the added trauma for Ama getting kidnapped AGAIN and nearly dying for a second time would be pretty interesting
What if, when they realize the extent of her power, instead of killing her again, the cult decides they're going to try and "convince" Amalia to use her powers for their benefit, believing now that she'd be better off as an asset to them rather than a sacrifice. Maybe they need her to talk to a specific spirit that was once part of their order, maybe they need a replacement for the person in their cult who was supposed to either speak to or be a vessel for their god once enough people were sacrificed to establish a strong connection, or maybe it's another reason altogether. But Ama's new position, though absolutely terrifying for her since these same people killed her and her family, provides her an opportunity to snoop around and find information that can help with the destruction of the cult while Everett and Corrine are bickering like an old married couple and generally trying to get their act together. Also, maybe this period of time is the first time Ama contacts the spirits of her parents. She's probably so scared and stressed that she's thinking about giving up and giving the cult an excuse to kill her, but she decides to give herself some closure and apologize to her parents before ending it. Her parents, however, tell her that they're proud of her for being so strong up until this point, tell her they don't blame her for their deaths at all, and generally give her the motivation she needs to not give up, maybe even give her ideas on what to do next.

@@RS-ux2kq Yeah, that was one of the possibilities I was thinking of! I just added on that they originally had a cult member that would have had that responsibility, but for some reason, they needed to replace them, hence the kidnapping of Amalia. I brought that possibility up because I like to also think the replaced/betrayed cult member could want revenge and, therefore, decide to help Amalia.
I have a truly weird suggestion: characters created from the most nonsensical references possible. They could be absolutely chaotic like memes or skribbles or an overwhelming mass of unsorted references, normally very insignificant things like skribbles or drawing mistakes (Ctrl-Z) or even a literal dot, or absurd twists on existing references like "character A but upside down" or "character sheet but the ENTIRE sheet" or "screenshot cut into pieces and rearranged" and so much more. The point of this suggestion? To proove that you can create ____ from literally anything! THE POWER OF ART!
I honestly would love to see these characters in a webcomic where we're watching from the point of view of each character in order of the events that happen. I think i honestly find this trio amazing and i think there should be an episode where the fae try to get the changeling back because they wanna use her.
i thought the direction for Everett and Corrin’s dynamic was going to be jealousy, actually! Mostly from Everett’s side. She isn’t charismatic even though she tries so hard - and here comes some stranger who’s *always smiling* and who everyone’s *loves* and who has people skills unrivalled by most. This would obviously change over the course of the story but it was my initial impression of how i imagined the two interacting (or more specifically Everett interacting with Corrin), even just from their descriptions!
No because failing at being the kind of person you've decided you want to be while you're stuck traveling with this stranger who seems to do the things you want to do effortlessly would have to drive you absolutely insane, right?
Amazing video! This series makes me so happy, and sometimes I get called out (literally drawing my white hair deal-with-the-devil[if-the-devil-was-slime] tiefling warlock currently) I think they would hang out and get into shenanigans. Like episodic animated show stuff, Corin dragging the others into doing a play, Stories around a campfire starring Amalia and the ensemble of ghosts, Everett attempts to pickpocket a noble and gets caught so they all go to jail, Corin critiques Everett’s technique, (to which everett says AHA! You are a thief! And corin goes Well I’m not, but if I was I would be a better thief than you!) etc. After they defeat the cult, I think they would still be very close-knit, start an inn maybe. I don’t want them to have any angsty moments, I want them to be happy :(((… but man maybe Corin tries to self-sacrifice and everett jumps in front of the metaphorical bullet, amalia having to telephone after, everett saying that she had so much fun being with them, she embraced herself, but she doesn’t have anyone (of which corin and amalia would say “you have us!!! and your family!!” which everett would hand-wave away) relying on her like corin does, with the theater troupe and all. Everett just thought corin would be better for the world… or something. I dunno writer brain is tired but I really like these characters,, and I had ideas, not sure if I transcribed them too well. Sorry. Also I am seconding the notion of enbies next please

Maybe Corin (is that how you spell her name?) ends the pact with her patron at the end because giving the horn back didn’t heal herself or didn’t work. Or maybe Corin d!es and Amalia(why are the names so hard to spell??) translates in between for Corin and Emerit. I have a feeling Corin and Emerit are platonic soulmates and are protective over Amalia.
"I don't like being forced to play by other people's rules" - somehow, to me that is one of the most fae/fey things you could have said while talking about Everett. Also of note as to Ev's character motivation, the options were "steal back the chosen one" or "take down the cult", right? The second option is definitely easier with Amalia and Corin helping, buuuut I think it should be noted that even without them she'd probably (reluctantly) go after the cult as 'easier', since the first option is probably.... not an option. Considering who stole the child and put Ev in as a changeling in the first place. So before meeting the other two, Ev was probably in a bit of a quandary... piss off an Archfae or take down a whole cult by herself. Decisions, decisions...
Genuinely great advice here! I'm someone who doesn't really think enough about their characters' goals, which results in them just kind of doing random stuff, so getting those set will be a big help for me. Thank you!
What if these 2 teams ended up meeting up at some point in the story? Maybe their travels end up with them in similar places at similar times? I could imagine they would have some interesting interactions. Like, maybe Asher tries to sell Amalia a pitch for a frivolous invention, but Everett sees right through his marketing tactics and denies him, so they have a little rivalry whenever they cross paths. Maybe Corrin and Talis would get along because they both seem to be leaders of their groups, even if their personalities are a bit different.
These designs are so great, and Ama and Corrine's stories are so cool! I especially like Corrine's story. I also love The Last Unicorn-I prefer Beagle's novel, but I do still love the movie-and have never heard of bloodlances either, but the concept is really cool. I really like the corruption seeping into her through her pact with her patron. It adds a ticking clock to the story which is always so good. I've never played DND (none of my friends of family played), but I love the lore, books, and associated stories. Grew up devouring my dad's copies of The Dark Elf Trilogy, Dragonlance and Ravenloft novels. I'm also a fantasy writer and learning artist, so I'm basically guaranteed to love this content. LOL (I'm still pretty terrible at character design and color, though, so I can study this! 😅) Overall, fantastic video! Cannot wait to see more!
I LOVE Amalia so much!! The concept is perfect I love it and I'm a sucker for animal hybrid anime styled characters ahhh. I want to see a little animation of them or something.
What if, throughout the story, that "little voice" in Corrin's head that tells her she's gonna die soon, isn't just the narrator we all have, but the corrupted magic taking a form, trying to make it easier on itself. What if Corrin isn't just waiting for and trying to stop her corruption but actively fighting it back. This could lead to some nice character development, where she tries to hide it and act like she's fine to not make Amalia and Everett worry, but eventually the feelings spill over and her body is controlled by the corruption. Not enough to fully corrupt her, but enough for the other 2 to notice. This could include a theme about bottling up your emotions.
Amalia reminds me of Julian from the manga Centuria. He was the final person left alive on a boat 100 strong and had a sea witch who saved him and granted him the capability of those 100 people. I highly recommend it, and I really like to see such a character here.
13:50 haven’t seen the rest of the video yet. I will edit the comment when I do. But my idea for the Faye character is ,yes keep them as an ex-member of the cult but only after being sent to go spy on Amalia.(IDK if that’s how you spell it) and being told to bring Amalia back to the cult so they can sacrifice her again properly this time. After being around Amalia for a while, the Faye character would say “Hey! She treats me better than you do. I’m not dealing with you anymore. I’m staying with her!” eventually, helping Amalia reach her goal and destroy the cult. Edit: I honestly love the idea that a changling sent to go be “the chosen one” and being given all these talents just to leave and get back at the people that trapped them just because they want to be left alone is amazing.
That’s fucking horrifying, this corrupted, damned cannibal tempting you to taste flesh, to concede your humanity… wait this is actually a banger concept I’m using it, I currently only have 3 traumatized OCs so let’s give them another addition to the club.

Wait... you just said that you loved the last unicorn and together with the inspiration for her patron... Amalias Name is actuallly so similar to the unicorns human name and even her color sheme is purple ... WHAT IF part of what brought her back was also the unicorns good sacrificed magic and because of that in the end she could help heal the unicorn even tying back to the unicorn and the young maiden trope?? xD
After seeing this group i immediately thought of what a crossover between them and your other randomly created characters wold look like. I mean it just fits: we have two recluses, two runaways and two showmans/womans. Poor nyx is suddenly going to have twice as many parents.
4:30 Wisteria just so happens to be one of my favorite flowers! It and the other design aspects easily make Amalia my favorite of the group. Totally not biased because purple's my favorite color and the whole "speaking with the dead" thing I also find pretty cool... Nope. Not one bit. 🙄 Speaking of plants, though, I'm not sure if it was this video or another where you mentioned that there are just some things that just sound like names, but I once stumbled upon a plant called loosestrife and I thought "Yeah, that would be a cool name for a character." Had one made within a week.
And YESS as soon as I was the old book pages when you were talking about the second character I hoped you would go into the old Fey stories! They are such an inspiration indeed!
Yeah, I'm with you. Everett being trans is awesome, but shapeshifters being under the trans umbrella in general is very common. Still really cool, but I still think there was a big missed opportunity to make Amalia a trans girl.

If this were a campaign/story I imagine there would definitely be a moment where Corin would sacrifice herself during some epic climax of a battle and it would be heartbreaking
Especially after her relationship with Amalia kind of forces her to contemplate her mortality. She could kind of come to terms with it in a way, knowing that she's not ready, but also that she... never really will be. And in her absence, her teammates could carry on with her quest to restore her patron, in her honor.
@@ewoklord-726 Exactly what I was thinking!! I also imagine that Everett would call her an idiot for trying to save them while sobbing and it would be a major development for their character
Hear me out. Corrine is about to sacrifice herself, but is pushed out of the way by Everett, who decides to do the sacrificing instead because, in her eyes, Corrine's already given up enough of herself for others, and it's probably time for her (Everett) to give back for once.
If you don't mind a darker twist, what if the team fails to save Corin before the corruption takes over completely, or the cult stops them from returning the horn, which forces them to kill her before she can cause a lot of damage, or she begs them to kill her because she doesn't want to hurt people. This could push the other two party members to interesting emotions and force the rogue to become the mother figure. This could also add revenge to their motives, putting their powerful emotions into stopping the cult. Another interesting idea would be to have more fae interaction. Maybe they realize that even with their combined power, they won't be able to stop the cult before Corin is corrupted. So the Rogue (and I'm sorry I forget names really quickly) has to reconnect with her people for support in their endeavor. Just some random thoughts :)

I talked to my friend about the lore and story of my characters and the main plot, and had some major ideas like the religion of the lands, the different government systems, illegal substance and how they are made, how magic works and how things can be passed down by blood using dark magic. So... This helps so much really.
Okay when you neared the ending of the first one a fight scene came to mind of the cult finding her again as the ritual didn't work cuz she "survived" so at some point in the story they find her and harm her and her friends but at the end she summons a bunch of spirits and right before the spirits kill the last cult member she says in a cold tone "I am not your prey anymore.." hencing towards the fact she's a deer and my idea of the cult tracking her down
I got a fun idea, what if this group is linked to the previous group you made? What if Corrin's patron was Talus's friend who got poached, or maybe that friend's parent? I think you mentioned in that video that one of the options for the species of his friend was a "baby unicorn", so it could end up somewhat related. Maybe Corrin knew Nyx's parents too as they were from a previous job she did? She could have met Asher's former employers the same way. I also imagine Corrin and Asher would immediately hit it off. Speaking of things, what if Nyx's parents funded the cult's activities, and Everett knew that? As the former chosen one, she would have been aware of who was putting their eggs in that basket. Or worse, what if Nyx's bio-mom was the cult leader/member and seduced his bio-dad as a way to secure funding? Would she tell him or would she keep it quiet? What would happen if the cat was ever let out of the bag? What else would she know that the other group would be interested in? Like the identities of the poachers that took Talus's friend, or someone Asher previously helped, unaware of that person's true nature? Now for Amalia (I hope I spelled that right), what if she knew Asher before the cult? Maybe he invented something that helped her family. How would he react to the news of their demise at the hands of the cult? Maybe Nyx starts developing a puppy crush on her, and both parties are in on it except the object of his affection. Would the others tease the two of them about it? How would that party react to the fact she has the power to commune with the dead? Maybe Talus would ask her to commune with his parents? Or maybe he becomes a shoulder to lean on when her survival guilt creeps to the surface? Sorry for the stupidly long post, but something about this one and the other one got my brain buzzing. This comment may get buried eventually, but if you ever do a video one day with both of these parties interacting, I hope I was able to help you at least a little bit. If not, I'm at least glad I was at least able to yell this out to the ether before it drives me insane. Great video, Star! Thanks for the brain burs. 😅

I like how this sorta ended up with amalia being a reluctant chosen one. Because she knows she’s not strong enough to face the cult alone, but she found people that can help her along. She’s sorta the catalyst for the quest, but everyone still has a reason to take down the cult. And that leads to them all building each other up
Question pls, how do you WRITE a reluctant chosen one? One of my OCs is one, and he hates being a chosen one because it nets him a lot of extra attention and he is a shy, bullied introvert who does not like extra attention. In addition, nobody can give him a straight answer on what he's chosen for, as everyone has a different idea. See, he's the reincarnation of a villain, and his chosenness boils down to how people can interpret/exploit that. Some people think he's meant to repeat this villain's mistakes. Others say he was born to fix them. His mentor, who was only a child when the villain died and regrets being unable to save him to this day, sees my OC as a second chance now that he's not so weak. Etc, etc. But the OC doesn't want any of these destinies. He doesn't even know who this villain was, and he doesn't want to get embroiled in a dead person's dirty laundry. However, it seems like he's railroaded into it at every turn. He's automatically good at the villain's special skills and hobbies, he subconsciously remembers people the villain knew and places he went, and all of his various mentors are trying to push him toward their interpretation of what he's supposed to do. He doesn't want to be this villain back from the dead, but he's not allowed to be anything else. (Or at least, he feels that way. He already had boundary issues because of his narc parents so that's not helping him assert his own identity at all)
I think it would be funny if the gang ran into a horde of cult grunts, Corrin and Everett would get in a competition on how many they can take out, then Amalia somehow takes out the majority of them through complete happenstance and timing

Legit this is quickly becoming one of my favorite series you do. Working through story concepts like this is something I just do for fun, so imagining the adventures casts like these go on is a blast!

What you said about not wanting to play by other people's rules for fantasy worlds/characters is part of why I fell in love with the Eberron D&D setting, which took a lot of generally accepted assumptions about fantasy and flipped them on their heads; a common quote about the world is, "If it exists in D&D, it has a place in Eberron... but it might not be the place you expect." That's how we get goblins descended from a continent-spanning dead empire, ancestor-worshipping elves, and halfling barbarians riding frikkin' dinosaurs!

I am LOVING Everet Quinn (However you spell that). I've always been so bummed down trying to make an interesting rogue design (I have played two) and struggling with a dark color scheme meant for sneaking around because "that's what rogues are supposed to be." Seeing the bright greens, pink, and all the gold she blatantly shows off just makes me so happy. It completely changed my perspective on how someone can play and design a rogue.
I mean, charisma is important for rogues, so why not give it a boost by dressing fancy?
Funny that the unicorn warlock is named Corin considering that “corn” means “horn” or “crown” (corona, etc.) and her story is about how her patron’s horn was poached.

I think seeing Corin struggle with the corrupted magic would be cool to see , especially thinking about how others would react , maybe corin tries to cast a spell and it goes horribly wrong , everett and amalia freak out worridly but in different ways , maybe everett yells at corin , asking if saving this unicorn was worth risking not only herself but everyone around her , and amalia would try to talk to her privately , assuring that she's doing the right thing but that maybe she should hold off on her magic , straining corins relationship with both of them and creates a realistic issue theyll need to overcome

So some ideas I had for these lovely beans, they're honestly giving family energy as in Koron as the elder sister, Everett as the parent or older brother, and Ama as the youngest child! Maybe sometimes, when ama or koron have trouble with something like questioning why they're doing this or something depressing, but everett is there for the both of them, and vise versa!

I love these characters all their designs are absolutely gorgeous and I especially love the butterfly cloak design it's incredibly gorgeous, and I would absolutely love to see how a semi undead reindeer lady with ghost powers an ex cultist changeling rouge with somehow the most and least Rizz in the party and a very lovely pirate lady with the powers of a demonic unicorn all try to destroy an evil cult, it just sounds amazing as hell
In summary, we have a zombie deer that talks to ghosts, a trans changling that lived the life of a chosen one, and a pirate performer cursed by an evil unicorn.

He took on the personality of Loki and only decided to help the main characters when it was convenient for HIM. He cared about them, but he was more focused on his survival. So when you were explaining, I was here like, "What if they WERE in the cult but saw how the spirits revived Amalia and decided "Hey maybe she could get me closer to my goal?" And at first they're just there because of what Amalia can get them, but eventually they just stay because they’ve gotten attached to the group?

I have a story I've slowly been developing over the course of maybe 3-4 years at this point, around the same time I meant my online friends and formed a group chat with em. For the first 2 years I never mentioned anything about this story to em and tried figuring out everything on my own. At most I showed em a rough draft of the cast when they didn't even have colors picked out.
The story going no where lead me to drop it for a whole year (2023), and in the start of this year I finally picked it up again. I designed the human appearances for the cast first this time (I had always done thier alt forms first before this) and asked my friends what they thought. Thier interest in the cast motived me to begin working on it again, and inturn, I showed more designs and bits about the story. Thier critiques made realize how much needed to be worked, and any time I was lost I would just yap about the issue in the group chat. It could be midnight with no one online but the act of typing itself helped me so much. By now the story is 2/3rds complete, with the last bit being finalizing individual character stuff. I have a beginning, middle, and end. Ive even began writing an outline (currently sitting at over 10k words). In less then a year I'm nearing the end this story because I didn’t keep it to myself!

I think having an instance where they meet the ACTUAL chosen one/the fae that stole them and their potential personality growing up in...less than ideal circumstances could be fun. Maybe there's actually some deep seated resentment there, maybe they have an instant connection that scares the less than open changeling. interesting ideas abound...
Nabari no Ou is how i view this concept in the manga/anime the MC meets a fellow cursed person both are not empathetic to the world but by being together MC gets more emotional then he has been in forever
Idea for Corrine - Her patron made the conscious choice to have their horn cut off, because it, through Corrine's eyes, saw how horrid the world was, that no amount of "petty theft by street performers" would ever truly solve the problems of inequality. In this state of utter despair, all the cult needed to do was give it a little nudge, a little suggestion, and it decided that the only way to truly fix it was to tap into the demonic powers the cult convinced it it needed. By the time they get its horn back, it is too far-gone, it has utterly embraced nihilism, and tries to get Corrine to do the same by sacrificing Amalia and Everett.
"Amalia" in Portugal was the name of one of our greatest Fado singers, if not the greatest, so also a fitting name for a bard in portuguese! (Fado is a traditional portuguese music style)
My favorite guy in the first video was the sea druid dwarf. On this one, I think Corrine takes the win.
As others have pointed out, would be fun to see a third video where everyone is non-binary, just to complete the trifecta 😄

I remember submitting a randomized character for this! I kinda just chose randomly, but by the time of submitting I had created an Orc bard with a purple palette and music note tattoos. I kinda fell in love with them and I'll definitely be developing them for a future campaign haha
Anyway, this type of experiment is a great way to demonstrate how easy it can be to build a character! I always say I'll choose my d&d character last because it's fun for me to puzzle out a character based on what the party needs ^.^

Regarding Everett Quinn. I love the idea of an inherently selfish character coming becoming the strongest advocate of thier friends because those are HER friends, and she's not about to lose some of the best people she's ever had in her life.
That tidbit about talking with someone you trust about your story is INCREDIBLY great advice! I've been very cagey about my writing for years now, worrying that whoever I showed it to wouldn't be able to understand the bigger picture, or worse yet, would get bored and make fun of me for info dumping.
I've been showing the near finalized version of my comic to a close friend of mine for a couple years now, but never really explained the story itself because I've been burned badly in the past (a now ex-friend once dismissively said it read like a bad fanfic despite only reading a couple lines). After almost two months of me explaining the writer's block I was having, and them prodding me for more info, I finally felt safe enough to explain the worldbuilding, characters, and plot of my comic.
They ADORED it. We spent two days straight just talking about it, and they helped me solve two giant plot holes that have been plaguing me for years, and has now become my main consultant for writing the men of my comic (I'm an enby AFAB, so I have a few blindspots writing men). They're even offering to help flesh out my magic system!
Having a second set of eyes can do wonders for your ideas, so try to find those you think would understand and ask them!
Hey now, don't accuse *us* of telling you to make characters sad. You do that plenty on your own.
I love them all so much! For a story beat idea, what if Amalia ended up getting kidnapped by the cult again? Only, the members who caught her didn’t know who she was. Maybe they were able to figure out just how powerful she is and see her as an easy mark. Then, Koran and Everett would have to work together to save her, allowing the two of them to grow closer as they’re forced to act as a pair. Plus, the added trauma for Ama getting kidnapped AGAIN and nearly dying for a second time would be pretty interesting
What if, when they realize the extent of her power, instead of killing her again, the cult decides they're going to try and "convince" Amalia to use her powers for their benefit, believing now that she'd be better off as an asset to them rather than a sacrifice. Maybe they need her to talk to a specific spirit that was once part of their order, maybe they need a replacement for the person in their cult who was supposed to either speak to or be a vessel for their god once enough people were sacrificed to establish a strong connection, or maybe it's another reason altogether. But Ama's new position, though absolutely terrifying for her since these same people killed her and her family, provides her an opportunity to snoop around and find information that can help with the destruction of the cult while Everett and Corrine are bickering like an old married couple and generally trying to get their act together.
Also, maybe this period of time is the first time Ama contacts the spirits of her parents. She's probably so scared and stressed that she's thinking about giving up and giving the cult an excuse to kill her, but she decides to give herself some closure and apologize to her parents before ending it. Her parents, however, tell her that they're proud of her for being so strong up until this point, tell her they don't blame her for their deaths at all, and generally give her the motivation she needs to not give up, maybe even give her ideas on what to do next.

@@RS-ux2kq Yeah, that was one of the possibilities I was thinking of! I just added on that they originally had a cult member that would have had that responsibility, but for some reason, they needed to replace them, hence the kidnapping of Amalia. I brought that possibility up because I like to also think the replaced/betrayed cult member could want revenge and, therefore, decide to help Amalia.
I have a truly weird suggestion: characters created from the most nonsensical references possible. They could be absolutely chaotic like memes or skribbles or an overwhelming mass of unsorted references, normally very insignificant things like skribbles or drawing mistakes (Ctrl-Z) or even a literal dot, or absurd twists on existing references like "character A but upside down" or "character sheet but the ENTIRE sheet" or "screenshot cut into pieces and rearranged" and so much more. The point of this suggestion? To proove that you can create ____ from literally anything! THE POWER OF ART!
I honestly would love to see these characters in a webcomic where we're watching from the point of view of each character in order of the events that happen.

i thought the direction for Everett and Corrin’s dynamic was going to be jealousy, actually! Mostly from Everett’s side. She isn’t charismatic even though she tries so hard - and here comes some stranger who’s *always smiling* and who everyone’s *loves* and who has people skills unrivalled by most. This would obviously change over the course of the story but it was my initial impression of how i imagined the two interacting (or more specifically Everett interacting with Corrin), even just from their descriptions!
No because failing at being the kind of person you've decided you want to be while you're stuck traveling with this stranger who seems to do the things you want to do effortlessly would have to drive you absolutely insane, right?

I think they would hang out and get into shenanigans. Like episodic animated show stuff, Corin dragging the others into doing a play, Stories around a campfire starring Amalia and the ensemble of ghosts, Everett attempts to pickpocket a noble and gets caught so they all go to jail, Corin critiques Everett’s technique, (to which everett says AHA! You are a thief! And corin goes Well I’m not, but if I was I would be a better thief than you!) etc.
After they defeat the cult, I think they would still be very close-knit, start an inn maybe. I don’t want them to have any angsty moments, I want them to be happy :(((… but man maybe Corin tries to self-sacrifice and everett jumps in front of the metaphorical bullet, amalia having to telephone after, everett saying that she had so much fun being with them, she embraced herself, but she doesn’t have anyone (of which corin and amalia would say “you have us!!! and your family!!” which everett would hand-wave away) relying on her like corin does, with the theater troupe and all. Everett just thought corin would be better for the world… or something. I dunno writer brain is tired but I really like these characters,, and I had ideas, not sure if I transcribed them too well. Sorry.

Maybe Corin (is that how you spell her name?) ends the pact with her patron at the end because giving the horn back didn’t heal herself or didn’t work. Or maybe Corin d!es and Amalia(why are the names so hard to spell??) translates in between for Corin and Emerit. I have a feeling Corin and Emerit are platonic soulmates and are protective over Amalia.
"I don't like being forced to play by other people's rules" - somehow, to me that is one of the most fae/fey things you could have said while talking about Everett.
Also of note as to Ev's character motivation, the options were "steal back the chosen one" or "take down the cult", right? The second option is definitely easier with Amalia and Corin helping, buuuut I think it should be noted that even without them she'd probably (reluctantly) go after the cult as 'easier', since the first option is probably.... not an option. Considering who stole the child and put Ev in as a changeling in the first place.
So before meeting the other two, Ev was probably in a bit of a quandary... piss off an Archfae or take down a whole cult by herself. Decisions, decisions...
Also imagine if that "cosen one" ever crosses their path and has a pact or something with said arch fey 👀

What if these 2 teams ended up meeting up at some point in the story? Maybe their travels end up with them in similar places at similar times? I could imagine they would have some interesting interactions.
Like, maybe Asher tries to sell Amalia a pitch for a frivolous invention, but Everett sees right through his marketing tactics and denies him, so they have a little rivalry whenever they cross paths. Maybe Corrin and Talis would get along because they both seem to be leaders of their groups, even if their personalities are a bit different.

I especially like Corrine's story. I also love The Last Unicorn-I prefer Beagle's novel, but I do still love the movie-and have never heard of bloodlances either, but the concept is really cool. I really like the corruption seeping into her through her pact with her patron. It adds a ticking clock to the story which is always so good.
I've never played DND (none of my friends of family played), but I love the lore, books, and associated stories. Grew up devouring my dad's copies of The Dark Elf Trilogy, Dragonlance and Ravenloft novels.
I'm also a fantasy writer and learning artist, so I'm basically guaranteed to love this content. LOL
(I'm still pretty terrible at character design and color, though, so I can study this! 😅)

I LOVE Amalia so much!! The concept is perfect I love it and I'm a sucker for animal hybrid anime styled characters ahhh. I want to see a little animation of them or something.
What if, throughout the story, that "little voice" in Corrin's head that tells her she's gonna die soon, isn't just the narrator we all have, but the corrupted magic taking a form, trying to make it easier on itself. What if Corrin isn't just waiting for and trying to stop her corruption but actively fighting it back. This could lead to some nice character development, where she tries to hide it and act like she's fine to not make Amalia and Everett worry, but eventually the feelings spill over and her body is controlled by the corruption. Not enough to fully corrupt her, but enough for the other 2 to notice. This could include a theme about bottling up your emotions.
Amalia reminds me of Julian from the manga Centuria. He was the final person left alive on a boat 100 strong and had a sea witch who saved him and granted him the capability of those 100 people. I highly recommend it, and I really like to see such a character here.

But my idea for the Faye character is ,yes keep them as an ex-member of the cult but only after being sent to go spy on Amalia.(IDK if that’s how you spell it) and being told to bring Amalia back to the cult so they can sacrifice her again properly this time. After being around Amalia for a while, the Faye character would say “Hey! She treats me better than you do. I’m not dealing with you anymore. I’m staying with her!” eventually, helping Amalia reach her goal and destroy the cult.
Edit: I honestly love the idea that a changling sent to go be “the chosen one” and being given all these talents just to leave and get back at the people that trapped them just because they want to be left alone is amazing.
Haunted past? She has the spirit of a wendigo inside of her that she can constantly see and sometimes communicates with them

After seeing this group i immediately thought of what a crossover between them and your other randomly created characters wold look like. I mean it just fits: we have two recluses, two runaways and two showmans/womans.

Totally not biased because purple's my favorite color and the whole "speaking with the dead" thing I also find pretty cool... Nope. Not one bit. 🙄 Speaking of plants, though, I'm not sure if it was this video or another where you mentioned that there are just some things that just sound like names, but I once stumbled upon a plant called loosestrife and I thought "Yeah, that would be a cool name for a character." Had one made within a week.
And YESS as soon as I was the old book pages when you were talking about the second character I hoped you would go into the old Fey stories! They are such an inspiration indeed!

Yeah, I'm with you. Everett being trans is awesome, but shapeshifters being under the trans umbrella in general is very common. Still really cool, but I still think there was a big missed opportunity to make Amalia a trans girl.

If this were a campaign/story I imagine there would definitely be a moment where Corin would sacrifice herself during some epic climax of a battle and it would be heartbreaking
Especially after her relationship with Amalia kind of forces her to contemplate her mortality. She could kind of come to terms with it in a way, knowing that she's not ready, but also that she... never really will be. And in her absence, her teammates could carry on with her quest to restore her patron, in her honor.

Hear me out. Corrine is about to sacrifice herself, but is pushed out of the way by Everett, who decides to do the sacrificing instead because, in her eyes, Corrine's already given up enough of herself for others, and it's probably time for her (Everett) to give back for once.
If you don't mind a darker twist, what if the team fails to save Corin before the corruption takes over completely, or the cult stops them from returning the horn, which forces them to kill her before she can cause a lot of damage, or she begs them to kill her because she doesn't want to hurt people. This could push the other two party members to interesting emotions and force the rogue to become the mother figure. This could also add revenge to their motives, putting their powerful emotions into stopping the cult.
Another interesting idea would be to have more fae interaction. Maybe they realize that even with their combined power, they won't be able to stop the cult before Corin is corrupted. So the Rogue (and I'm sorry I forget names really quickly) has to reconnect with her people for support in their endeavor.

I talked to my friend about the lore and story of my characters and the main plot, and had some major ideas like the religion of the lands, the different government systems, illegal substance and how they are made, how magic works and how things can be passed down by blood using dark magic. So... This helps so much really.

Okay when you neared the ending of the first one a fight scene came to mind of the cult finding her again as the ritual didn't work cuz she "survived" so at some point in the story they find her and harm her and her friends but at the end she summons a bunch of spirits and right before the spirits kill the last cult member she says in a cold tone "I am not your prey anymore.." hencing towards the fact she's a deer and my idea of the cult tracking her down
Maybe after a bit of the past sacrifices start to learn how to take control Amolia?
I got a fun idea, what if this group is linked to the previous group you made?
What if Corrin's patron was Talus's friend who got poached, or maybe that friend's parent? I think you mentioned in that video that one of the options for the species of his friend was a "baby unicorn", so it could end up somewhat related. Maybe Corrin knew Nyx's parents too as they were from a previous job she did? She could have met Asher's former employers the same way. I also imagine Corrin and Asher would immediately hit it off.
Speaking of things, what if Nyx's parents funded the cult's activities, and Everett knew that? As the former chosen one, she would have been aware of who was putting their eggs in that basket. Or worse, what if Nyx's bio-mom was the cult leader/member and seduced his bio-dad as a way to secure funding? Would she tell him or would she keep it quiet? What would happen if the cat was ever let out of the bag? What else would she know that the other group would be interested in? Like the identities of the poachers that took Talus's friend, or someone Asher previously helped, unaware of that person's true nature?
Now for Amalia (I hope I spelled that right), what if she knew Asher before the cult? Maybe he invented something that helped her family. How would he react to the news of their demise at the hands of the cult? Maybe Nyx starts developing a puppy crush on her, and both parties are in on it except the object of his affection. Would the others tease the two of them about it? How would that party react to the fact she has the power to commune with the dead? Maybe Talus would ask her to commune with his parents? Or maybe he becomes a shoulder to lean on when her survival guilt creeps to the surface?
Sorry for the stupidly long post, but something about this one and the other one got my brain buzzing. This comment may get buried eventually, but if you ever do a video one day with both of these parties interacting, I hope I was able to help you at least a little bit. If not, I'm at least glad I was at least able to yell this out to the ether before it drives me insane. Great video, Star! Thanks for the brain burs. 😅
