Helpful info. I bought a 2011 sl550 last year and love it. I recently lubricated all my rubber seals around the Vario roof to help prevent water ingress. I appreciate all the videos SL owners produce. Quite a great group of MB owners
Mate , All this is GOLD , thank you for doing this. I’ve never worked on any car I’ve had since they were all brand new, but I fell in love with the r230 , So with your help and advice I’m out there solving problems saving a fortune
Good info (as usual) - I knew about (and have checked) the drains in the boot but didn’t know about the others. However - don’t forget the ones at the top of the A-pillars (accessible only with the roof down) too. 👍🏼
Hi, and thank you once again for your excellent videos which are saving me (and I presume many others) in both and money. Just discovered a three-quarter full vent under the hood of my recently purchased car, which given the UK weather would have been a problem in the not-so-distant future, so will now clear all the water drain holes you have highlighted as part of a regular maintenance schedule on my SL350 based on your videos. Many thanks!
Thanks so much for the kind words. The vent on the UK passenger side on engine on my car filled up full of water, this can then go inside car, so look through it once a while to see if it's dry,! Thanks if you subscribed
Really helpful videos. Please do more on battery drain and how to measure the reasonable drain. Any tips when checking the R230.. also a video of how to align the vario roof when closing and opening when the trunk scrapes the rear light slightly, and if the roof panel doesn’t travel to the locking hinges simultaneously on both sides. Sometimes i have to fold it back and try to close it again. Is there a way to bleed the vario system just in case there is any air in the lines?
Quick question, I watched the key fob battery replacement vid, i got branded replacements, didn’t work, I put the old ones back in and they worked. There’s no flashing red light at all , And you are so dam right about both batteries, took me a very long time to figure that one, But just in time before it was going to a specialist £££££
I'd also look at the side undertrays - on my 2005 SL350 there are small holes in these undertrays at front and rear that also allow water to drain out but they can get blocked up :)
@@GrooveOnNo not the engine undertrays the ones that run down each side from front to rear wheels - my SL350 is running well done the bcm fusing recently although I found your ‘side entry’ method too awkward and had to work out how to remove the panel which actually isn’t too bad once you know how to 😊
Do you by any chance have any experience with the following fault code? The SRS warning light has come on and reads: "The resistance value in the ignition circuit containing component R12/1 (Driver ETR ignition squib is too high)." I think it is a loose/dirty connector under the driver's seat but I'm not sure how to access it and whether I can do it myself. Thank you in advance if you can give any help!
@@kksf6281 like you said usually loose dirty connection or corrosion, under seat is good shout as it's always moving. Usually yellow plugs, if you get a diagnostic like icarsoft it will usually pinpoint exactly which connection is at fault
I like your wheels. I need to clear these drain holes this weekend. Mine at the back are blocked... The ones on the far corners of the trunk. What will clear that out? It seems to be a very long drain pipe to go back over the rear wheels... Could puncture something :/
Hello, both sides of the trunk tube are blocked, when I put water in the gap as you did it ends up going inside the trunk corner. Do you know how to access and/or remove the tube and I can clear it out? Thanks
@@cav4290 my bad I have just realised you are talking about the internal flexible rubber tubes. In trunk. Are they soft when you squeeze? Mine leaked too I sealed the edges with silicon, there is a vid on my channel if you search for mercedes roof. Try opening the roof half way the glass will pivot and you can get a better look. I live in Glasgow where are you?
Informative video and really useful, Thanks! After I discovered a puddle behind my driver's seat, I found out that there are two drain holes in the roof as well. They are at the top of the rear pillars. I found out by watching this video ruclips.net/video/eF99xdN5TuM/видео.html

@mikeclinch1141 nice one, thanks for that
Good work my friend
Very helpful thank you 👍 the leaves are going to be a problem for me to keep on top of
Thanks for the kind words, hope it helps mate
Thank you for sharing. That’s very helpful..
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for following me
Use strimer cutter cord, it is robust, flexible ans will not damage any paintwork.
Excellent video, thank you very much!

So use something like a flexible plastic tube. If you haven't got one, I have used a thin twig fresh from bush that's bendable and won't break off,
Someone else mentioned strimmer cord, won't scratch etc.
Mercedes SLE 2300
Can this video still work for it
Gr8 video very helpful 👍
That's no problems glad it helped

Get a long flexible nylon thin tube and try pushing in there
@@GrooveOn Thank you, I tried but it seems it's very blocked. Do you know how to open it up?
@@cav4290 you could try compressed air, or find the tube behind liner of wheel and see if you can work upwards?

I don't suppose you still do this to you? I don't care if this is $1000, it's worth it.
Are you asking if I still clear the drain holes? I do every year of so.
