Using an IV calculator, I determined that Barry the Chimchar had an Atk IV of 0, and a -Atk nature (specifically Bold, with +Def). So it’s attack was literally as low as it could be. But that wasn’t it’s only humorously low IV. Barry also had 0 SpDef and only 2 speed. It’s highest IV was SpAtk at only 20.
I was really curious when they asked if Pay Day could ever be super effective, so I decided to look it up. And apparently Pay Day was made into a TM in Sword and Shield, and it can be taught to Sylveon, who can get Pixilate as its hidden ability. So yeah, Pay Day can be super effective lol.
You could do it even earlier than that, in Gen 6! Sylveon gets Skill Swap so just trade it off to your Pay Day user. Or you could use Ion Deluge beforehand, but no one thinks about Ion Deluge.
@@SparkBlazeWarriors there were a couple low ladder niche memes in gen6/7 that used turn 1 ion deluge and i think explosion because nobody expects the ion inquisition
Eddaket has been one of my favorite runners for a while, and Pokémon has a super dear place in my heart. Loving SGDQ this year, and awesome run Eddaket! Thank you for doing what you do!!
So funny story in relation to the pronunciation of regions bit that was touched on during the 8th gym: when i was young i thought the 4th generation anime occurred in a different place than the game because i thought they were in the "Cinno" region, and child me read "Sinnoh" as "shaw-gnaw". When it finally clicked i thought it was the funniest thing. This was an incredible and at times hilarious run. Thanks to Eddaket and all the commentators for making this so memorable
I think Pokémon runs at GDQ have the most consistently entertaining couches. Shen, keiz, eddaket - pretty much all the Pokémon runners have such great chemistry.
Thanks to person in the audience who informed them Kazza is pronounced like "pizza". I was thinking that for nearly three hours and was glad to see the reaction to it..
Part of me wonders what the routing for NatDex% would be. Could probably be done with this Any% route up to Maylene and then mostly following this, but back- or side-tracking to fight trainers that give unique dex entries (like the Hearthome gym trainer with Drifloon). The extra Exp could change strats in some of the difficult battles, though. 🤔
Okay, can someone please fill me in on the Golbat thing? I was hoping they'd explain it for those not familiar, but alas, no luck (aside from Keiz saying he hated them lol).
Yeah during the Chaos Evolution Run, which Keiz was one of the runners) they got walled HARD by a Golbat in Roxanne's team that stalled the run for at least twenty minutes as they tried to figure out how to beat it. And because the game was randomized, it had Speed Boost and they got like five evolutions in a row that it had super effective moves against them. Then it came up again in the last Gym when not only did Golbat have good moves, but it replaced Juan's Kingdra which iirc made it the highest level member of the team and had a Chesto Berry meaning they couldn't use Spore to cheese it like they had most of the game. Keiz even said, if I remember correctly, "I officially hate Golbat now" so having them come up here just made for a fun running gag
I know there's a lot of people that don't agree with me, but I think it's unfortunate that every pokemon run at GDQ nowadays just ends up being hours of joking between the couch and donation reading for people saying their favorite pokemon. I'm at least interested in the run and strats, not who can make the best Wooper cry. This is why I preferred when Werster used to do run the big gdq pokemon runs.
They definitely still talk mostly about the run; strats, routes, probabilities, etc. Depending on who's on the couch, sure there can be more jokes and individual community sides, but I personally don't think it takes away from the more technical stuff. People can talk about Pokemon cries and still be incredible runners simultaneously. Besides, while I haven't looked up year over year statistics, it certainly seems like they get more donations the more they interact with the chat -- which is the spirit of GDQ anyway.
eh its just that runs can really get boring esp with these long ones, it pretty helps fill empty gaps when there are no strats that can be really explained Keizaron's 2019 Crystal run is one of the more successful ones and that one was peak memes yet it had a lot of explanations of strats, also gained a ton of donos which is pretty much the point of the event
It bugs me that they say "proc" (which means Programmed Random OCcurrence) to refer to completely deterministic events, like berries triggering. In the context of Pokemon, a proc would be something like Quick Claw or Static triggering.
pretty sure "proc" can also mean procedure / process which would be the earlier term, used since old MUDs. People seem to use it differently from game to game. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Hey everyone! Hope you all enjoyed the run! I had a blast doing it, and I'm happy to be able to share the game and speedrun with you all
I don't play pokemon at all, but the chemistry and interactions between you and your couch/es made all the confusion worth it xD
It's amazing!
I love how every pokemon run's commentary always devolves into absolutely unhinged chaos. Never change.

But that wasn’t it’s only humorously low IV. Barry also had 0 SpDef and only 2 speed. It’s highest IV was SpAtk at only 20.
Thank you for this because when I saw that Chimchar's defense was lower than it's attack I was wondering what it's IVs were

Mind reader against ghost type
Payday has been a TM since gen 1
@@XakTerrible Not really "since". It was a TM in Gen 1 and then wasn't a TM again until LGPE.

I don’t know who this Rotom is, but he sounds a lot like Keizaron.
Lmao
No no no that’s jynx 🤔
™️Keizaron
Of course! It's Keizarotom!
I’m so happy these runs are back to being in an a nice large room with everyone together again! Welcome back everyone!!! ;3

I can listen to eddaket speak about Speedrunning Pokémon for days tbh
Lol, I appreciate that "Rotom" gets added to the caster couch a little into the run. Just a funny little 'easter egg' from production.
I'm not sure how, but this is more chaotic than the chaotic Pokemon run earlier
I was so genuinely delighted by the Couch from start to finish, making this one of my favorite runs of the entire event! Well done, everyone!
I love the couch runners. One of the best couch choices I’ve seen
I think Pokémon runs at GDQ have the most consistently entertaining couches. Shen, keiz, eddaket - pretty much all the Pokémon runners have such great chemistry.
Excuse you, Pay Day can absolutely hit super-effective against normal resists during a inverse battle.
"I know there's going to be a $124 donation sometime, and you know what that is-"
"Depression"
The golf style commentary during Gardenia killed me.
ok but can we appreciate the overlay telling you who’s talking
super nice to know who is saying what since putting names to a voice can be difficult
Always love seeing Pokémon at GDQ
especially with this group of runners. Always make for the most epic of chaos
What an incredible run. I'm so mad I couldn't watch it all live, but it was great!
Pay Day can technically be super effective if the user has Pixalate, Aerilate, Refrigerate, or Galvanize!
For anyone wondering I plug the ivs into a calculator and here they are

Eddaket rules! I'm hoping for PLA at the next GDQ. It sort of has to happen. And... Oh my, what a chaotic couch ;-) Love it!
Thanks to person in the audience who informed them Kazza is pronounced like "pizza".
I was thinking that for nearly three hours and was glad to see the reaction to it..
Honestly there was something so enjoyable about this run being so chaotic with the commentary.
ah yes, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Steelbook Long String Of Numbers That Will Probably Get Me Filtered, the most hype speedrun
I know right? I love seeing Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl Steelbook 045496416249 speedruns.
heck yeah an eddaket run!💜
Fully expected Keiz to just yeet Rotom backwards into the crowd
I'm so glad that I watched the Absolute Chaos Emerald run before this so I understand why they hate the Golbats
Perfect timing; I'm practicing speed running this game! Looking forward to learning more tricks to the route.
Regarding D-Pad movement versus Stick movement, you are basically forced to use the stick in the cave near the end or you will keep jumping the ledge.
it's so funny how presumably the entire community hates that you need to turn off the music to save time
This is a fun run! Do wish the remakes hadn't so faithfully kept the random AI for all trainers though and instead followed Platinum's lead.
i love the couch with the level calcs lmao
One problem I had while playing these games is that you get saved by the affection mechanic too often
yeah same, the games are already easy, no need for them to be even easier
Can't lie it comes in clutch when status is messing you up
I love being just smart enough to know that I'm not smart enough to do pokémon math
pay day can actually be super effective used by a pixilate sylveon in generation 8
Really fun run and great couch! Loved every minute!

31:24 thank you Mae for explaining how exp work in this game 😂
11:32 Pay Day actually can be super effective during Inverse Battles
I like when those pokeballs go pew
Payday can be super effective. If it’s used by a mon pixilate or similar ability
Really cool run!
12:40 my first guess was dancing queen.
Pump-ka-boo fits perfectly into dance-ing queen
As someone who is a flying fan and made a flying team in his Omega Ruby game, shoutout to Corvimae.
such a charming and fun couch
Couch was hilarious
Pay Day could be super-effective if it were used by a Pokémon with Pixelate?
Kazza is obviously pronounced with tz, like pizza.
Gets a like right away for trainer and rival names.
People who love early gen 1 Pokémon have a great time donating meanwhile I'm stuck loving #601 and I AIN'T donating that.
Just donate 6.01! :)
It's a minimum $5 donation so you can just give $6.01
$6.01 Do it next time. Any amount of donation is a good amount.
In that case, I've seen people donate something like $6.01 instead.
$6.01 ez
I always used drapion and set up with acupressure on Cynthia lol
Everything died after lol
Did you that Team Galactic Saturn and Gym Leader Candice are distant cousins?
wait if charm is bertha than is clover candice?

I am happy to see a speedrun of this game happen. Its a good pass time run
seeing this run made me want to pick up and beat shining pearl lol

It's a reference to the Chaos Evolution Emerald run they did in the same event. It's up on youtube

They use a proc colloquially to refer to activation
In fact it's used commonly in various contexts not only here
So that's a you problem
I’ve always interpreted it as activation.
You are technically correct... the best kind of correct 😅
