Excellent! I was going to try and look up how to do this over the last week but kept getting distracted. All of your videos have really helped me get a good start since I took a 7 year break from the hobby. Some things have really changed.
Excellent. I found a generic full-featured OpenTX Quad TX16 setup that I would like to import and use as a basis for my setups. This worked perfectly. Now to find a generic quad OpenTX template with all the common features. Similarly, I found a matching BetaFlight Config file to set up the switches etc. There is no reason every person has to recreate the wheel.
Fantastic, Lee! Thanks a lot for the tip!!! 😃 Some time from now I'm going to have to buy a second transmitter (didn't decided yet which) for my father. And that is going to make things much easier! 😃
Messing about- perfect description of my methodology with flashing etc.! I have managed to copy from my x9d to x7 not too tough even for me. Over the years How many times have you saved my bacon?
Lee, could you possibly do a video on how to transfer models from a FrSky Taranis X9D plus to a Jumper T16 Pro radio with the internal module? My problem is I have a multi protocol module in my Taranis and I have some models with FrySky receivers bound to the internal module and I also have several different brands bound to the multi protocol module. I have Flysky, DSM and DSMX, Syma, etc. bound with the external module. I have the models all copied over to the T16 but I can't get the receivers to bind with the exception of a Orange RX DSM USB Dongle to use with my simulator. Thanks, Kevin Burns
One question ist not beeing answered: Is the binding included or not. ( Do You need to bind the new radio to the receiver or is the binding informtion part of the model ? )
Agreed! I'm looking for a way to "clone" my transmitter and if we don't have to rebind by going this route that would be amazing! Please let us know if you had to rebind!
Hi. Again, do not know what i have done but, my old x-lite radio has packed in, cannot see the screen on the radio? back light on when connected to open tx companion but cannot see screen when trying to use just the radio?anyway updated the new radio and now matches old ones firmware, all works, will flash receivers modules etc, but this is the problem refuses to write the model bin files to the radio? they are in the models folder, not getting any warnings for wrong firmware or sd card warning? it is like it is not recognising the models bin files? any help would be appreciated, do not fancy setting up all my models from scratch.
You need to write the models back to the radio after adding them to the EEPROM model memory you've copied from the radio as shown in the video. You have to copy them from the backup to the new open radio profile... Hope that helps..
Can I add all the models on my current X9E to my new Horus X10S Express at the same time. For example select all the models at once and copy them? thanks
Great video as always! Question: I have a 2nd hand quad that is already bound to a QX7, but the TX didn't have an SD card installed in it and the quad doesn't seem to want to copy onto the SD card since I've placed it in the transmitter. I thought it would be a simple "copy" and have it on the newly installed SD card... no luck :( I wanted to copy that model and place it on my other transmitter too, but I'm just not getting it. Any advice? BTW - all my TX's are running OpenTX 2.2.3 Thanks again for all your excellent videos! You're one of the very best! *SUBBED*
Not sure, all of the video set up that I’ve done for these radios include setting up and popping in an SD card as one of the first things. If you figure it out please let me know. Best of luck!
Thanks for your prompt reply! I purchased the quad and the extra TX second hand and the person that had it did not have an SD card in it and I've tried EVERYTHING to try and resolve with no luck :( I'll continue looking and if I do find a solution, I'll certainly make note of it here. Thanks again! Your videos are some of the very best :)
Painless360 yes. I've tried several times and thought I'd followed the steps to the letter, to no avail. It has to be something easy that I'm missing. I've gotten quite frustrated with it, so I'm going to set it aside for a moment and try again in a few days... I'll report my finding. Hopefully with positive results :)
Painless360 I wonder... Do I have to "bind" the quad to the new TX? That particular quad is full KISS- FC / ESC's too and I'm not familiar at all with the KISS software and I had many problems trying to download the KISS software on my Mac, or WIN 10 computers... So many little things it can be, but I'm still plugging away at it and getting nowhere... ugh :( Feeling really inadequate at the moment.
I tried doing it, and the method did not work for me. I got all the way to the point where I wrote the new models to the radio, and it seemed to work, but when I checked the radio, none of the new models were there, nothing had changed. It seems as though the new /bin files were written, but no .yml files. No idea how to proceed.
I wonder if it'd be possible to write a Lua script which can copy a model (or any file on the SD card) directly to another transmitter using an s.port cable connecting the two transmitters together. I've not looked into the S.port protocol much but know it's capable of full-duplex communication; so as long as the port can be read/written to via Lua script, and Lua scripts can read/write to the SD card then I can't see a technical reason such a model/file transfer script shouldn't be possible. --- I have a fair bit of experience writing Lua scripts (not related to openTX), so might have a look into it to see if such a script would actually be possible, and maybe even have a crack at writing it.
After a quick look at the s.port specs turns out it's a master/slave protocol so you'd need a micro-controller in between the two transmitters acting as a slave for both and transferring the packets between them. Still doable, but not with a simple dumb cable ...which kinda defeats the object of making it super simple.
HI. can you clone all radio settings and model settings from one radio to an identical radio? As my old x-lite is getting a bit old and worn out and have purchased a new one of the same model. Thanks.
Hello from the USA ! I just got a QX7 - Wow what a great radio. I also have a I Range x4 module installed to rum a bunch of “Toy Grade” stuff. I am presently using a Jumper transmitter. My question is can the models from the Jumper be copied to the QX7. ??? Thank you in advance for your response. I really like your work! Ben Herr
Sadly you need to get the models into Companion from the radio you're going to copy from and (at the moment) there isn't support for Jumper radios - even the one with a 'version' of OpenTX on it. There may be other apps that can help but I've not come across one.. Best of luck!
