Love the chance to see a hands on factory. The wire winding part reminded me of a tour of Western Electric years ago where they made the massive wiring bundles for phone cables. That and how the got the insulation costings on the wires with the multiple colors of stripes on them. nice video!
Polylactic acid can start warping at a consistent 111 degrees, but is fine for prototyping and fit-testing. Cura is my preferred slicer! Great to see the innovative approach!
Having have worked for Kiwa building AM Loops, I must say this is quite the operation. Much more than two stoners sitting in a garage soldering things and listening to Yes.
I've built my own similar design to this--but there's no denying the quality workmanship represented in this video by Chameleon. I wish we didn't have to choose between patriotism and thrift when making such choices. This is a quality operation top-to-bottom.
I don't understand how someone can Thumb Down a video like that... Anyways, their manufacturing process is very impressive! Their product is definitively not made on a kitchen table corner like 75% to 85% of the current amateur radio products on the market!
Recently bought my first brand new HF rig ever, likely the last too.... needed an antenna that wouldnt attract too much attention, easy to set up, and would tune up on most or all HF bands reasonably. I hadn't heard much about Chameleon Antennas, but after seeing them for sale in a few different places I decided to give the Emcomm II a try since it seemed like a short wire length overall compaired to others, and end fed half waves or random wires seem to work well for some guys. I havent had it set up yet, but will be upgrading my license this week so I'm hoping to give it a try in the next few days finally, I plan to use an rf choke as well as running counterpoise wires so it wont need to use the coax shield for that. From what I've seen, I think it will work well, especially as part of my portable set up. Even if I find that something else is better for my base set up at home, I feel like the Emcomm II will still be very useful for taking my little show on the road... Always cool to get a little behind the scenes peak at the place some of our favorite gear is made, and a bit of what goes into designing and manufacturing the things we use.
Great tour. Hey, Josh, I need some Chameleon help. I recently purchased “CHA EMCOMM II QRP” antenna. It came with zero documentation. I figured I would get the information from the website. Wrong. The antenna is no longer on the website. I opened the enclosure to look at the transformer. It looks like 3 to 1 windings or 9:1 unun. I expected a 49:1 unun as I thought this was a EFHW antenna. They call it a QRP antenna, but I have no idea how much power it can handle. The website has no contact info for help. So, I don’t know what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated.. 73.
Im a little late to the party, but I recently bought the Emcomm II and I was under the impression that it is a 5:1 transformer, but I could be wrong about that.
Curious, I wonder if the raw metals are melted/manufactured (buy America) in the USA? Was my job at one time to verify all that paperwork for federal jobs.
Love to see them make a HiQ substitute 6-160 motorized coil with internal roller that doesn’t use polycarbonate with gets destroyed in the sun and brine used on the east coast. Let’s say 1-1.5kw pep ☺️plus hiQ isn’t in production to hams just military contracts 😡
@@forgetyourlife Yup. It turned out that the Mast's hole for the top mount didn't match. Chameleon told me to make new holes on the mast! I was like, nope this is not manufactured correctly and it cost too much for it not to work. Then they wanted more pictures and were not sure what to do. Eventually they blamed the person who made the holes on the mast and shipped a new mast which worked perfectly. I wasn't sure why they couldn't believe me in the first place. The mast is solid. I haven't had time installing it yet, but sure can't wait to see what the weight capability.

I love to see these products being made in the USA. Thanks for the tour Josh.
Impressive operation. Precision = Quality. Excellent!
Excellent tour, Josh ! It was really cool to see the shop and hear George describe the system.
Nice video man
I have a new in the box chameleon that I haven’t put up yet. If it ever stops snowing and the temps get high enough to melt I can put it up

That's some good looking stuff. I like that foldable whip!
Josh, many thanks for this nice video. Impressive operation, we are happy to be their reseller in Europe! :)
Any time!

Which in itself sounds like a great way to spend time. Rush would work just as well.
Good point about the bright colors especially for POTA

Buying Chameleon starts an entire chain on on-shore economic activity, that's for sure.
It absolutely does.
No discount code? 😂. Awesome video, love their products

Interesting video but Josh talking too much, I would have like to hear the gentleman explain his operations. I gave it a thumbs up.
Yeah, the interviewer needs to shut up and let the guy explain.

I'm stl hoping that one day y'all will sell the new F-Loop matchbox separately because I have everything else from my 2.0
Josh, let the man talk.
I did.
It would be really cool if you guys could show porta masts. I want to buy one, but pictures just don't really show what it looks like.
No tour/discussion of the EMCOMM III? :(
I just bought one this year; my first HF antenna -would love to see how it's made

It’s the same thing than the EMCOMM II.

Hopefully they fixed their quality control. Had some issues with their mast, but it took a while for them to fix the issue.

Had a real joke of a conversation way back when they sold the variable loop kits. Owner treated me like crap. Will never consider buying again.
