You are watching the complete destruction of an established professional sports franchise. Kill the fan base, then move the team. My guess is that the current commissioner is working to see the Jays franchise relocated to the USA, where he feels they belong. I believe that Son of Rogers and Robert D Manfred Jr have made a secret deal to do just that .........

This management group has absolutely no foresight. The push things (contracts) off so long and try to low ball when they realize time is running out. If they sorted this right after last season, he wouldn't be looking at comps to Soto. Vladdy is not Soto, but he will get north of 340 somewhere. Someone needs to tell Atkins that he works for the Blue Jays.

This is the trickle effect of the Soto deal. No player is worth Soto money, but you can at least make the argument for Ohtani that he also is an ace calibre pitcher who brings in revenue. Soto’s deal might kill the future of the mlb. His deal is a decade ahead of its time, should have maxed out at $500 mil. Vladdy is not worth more than $340, but will get a lot more on account of the horrendous Soto contract.

    • @biggoofybastard
      @biggoofybastard 29 дней назад

If a team is willing to pay a player $750 million you can bet they expect him to bring in double that in tickets, concessions, and merch sales, so yes they're worth it. They're also looking at what it does for the value of the ball club when they eventually sell it.

He's made 42m since then, So that evaluation puts him at 25m the next 4 seasons, 3 of which were FA. Even then, it was probably structured so the FA years were worth more..
Turns out, they were basically dead on based on his performance since, but not the upcoming market.

Exactly. We’re talking about a year and a half of out of this world superstardom and 4.5 years of being good to pretty good. That off may have been ‘low’ if Vladdy was 2021 on repeat, but he simply has not been. So then you have to ask yourself, what do the next five years look like? The next 10? This contract is not without risk for the Jays and I wouldn’t give him a blank cheque.

The Jiminez trade isn't going to move the needle and it really appears that this was the big move for them. It's time to unload the FO, get some competent individuals to take control and start the rebuild process. Last thing we need is Atkins and Shapiro negotiating trades of our most valuable assets.

Vlad and Bo need to be traded now. Start the team over again and well I would just sell it. Management is going to be there, obviously Rogers doesnt care about the fans, or else something would be done.
Bottom line Rogers needs to look at this- players do not want to play for front office. End of story. You know its bad when Vlad doesnt want to be there. Front office isnt people - friendly. They take a business, and do cuts to high paying workers. They hire cheap labour or soon to be retired players.
This is how I would run the business if I was Rogers-
    1. Fire GM and Asistant
    2. Bring on Joe Carter as GM . Fans love the guy. Assistant would be Mookie Wilson
    3. Fire the Manager
    4. Hire Joey Votto as the new Hitting Coach.
    5. Offer Vlad a contract of 1 year $19 million, with the option to extend it based on his performance of a 10 year extention of $580 million . If he says no, then he would be traded immediately. There's the door. Trade him for Mike Trout in LA.
    6. Sign Yasmani Grandal to a 5 year deal.
    7. Sign Pete Alonso to a 5 year deal $135 million with a $20 million signing bonus.
    8. Sign Joey Gallo as a DH to a 10 year deal based on performance at $200 million .
    9. Sign Dylan Carlson to a 3 year deal $75 million
    10. Sign Teoscar Hernández to 5 year deal $125 million
    11. Sign Justin Verlander as Pitching Coach.
    12. Sign Clayton Kershaw to a 2 year $40 million deal
    13. Sign Max Scherzer to a 5 year Manager deal.
    14. Sign Walker Buehler to a 8 year $170 million deal.
    15. Trade Kevin Gausman (pay his salary) to Pittsburg for Paul Skenes
    16. Sign Paul Skenes to a 12 year $600 million deal, plus a $10 million a year royalty to the Pirates
Fans will love TO once again with the right team and people managing it.

🫢 Oh, no, this is absolutely terrible! Sounds like we are heading into a complete rebuild. If this is the direction the team is going, then they must fire Ross Atkins and Mark Shapiro. Bringing in a new management team with a new vision, new strategy, and new message to the faithful Blue Jays fans.

Mariners should trade for Vladimir Guerrero and sign him to a $450M/13 year deal ($30M in 2025, and $35M/season for the remaining 12 years). Give him two player options for $25M each, that can bring the total to $500M/15 years, making it a career contract, where he'll play alongside Julio Rodriguez for the next decade and a half. I know the Blue Jays fans won't be happy, but what team is better equipped to pay a fair price for Vlad, and it would keep him out of the AL East, as I don't think the Mariners make this deal unless they plan to backup an armored car to get him long-term in Seattle. I feel for the Blue Jays fans, but he has no supporting cast, no farm system with talent on the horizon, and not enough money in this market to buy their way into contention.

But Vlads season was even better than Donaldsons season when he won MVP back in 2015.

So who replaces his bat? Atkins will trade Vladdy for pennies on the dollar because he is basically a rental headed to free agency and then Atkins will overpay an older free agent for more than Vladdys ask now. The failure was Atkins not signing him to along term contract before this off-season when the Soto sweepstakes raised the bar on power hitters. Atkins lack of foresight, flawed player evaluations and overall inexperience has cost the Jay's one of their best home developed talents in their history because they chose a loser from Cleveland to run the team who hired inexperienced management like Atkins to work underneath him and follow his instructions. Schapiro should be fired and Atkins with him.

If Vlad was offered $340 mil recently I would say that's a fair offer but I think $400 is definitely the max. Vlad is an above average hitter but not the best we've seen. Gets 30 HRs on average and a decent BA. Defense is avg. I wouldn't low ball him but I don't think his is worth a giant payday. On the otherhand, if the dont pay Vlad, what are they left with? Not a heck of a lot.

As a soon to be DH, Vlad is not worth the contract he will receive. Ohtani's contract because of its structure & inflation, is actually worth 10yr X $46mil = $460mil. Vlad is going to get a bigger contract than Ohtani. Jays should overpay to sign one of Hernandez or Santander & then immediately move Guerrero to the Mariners for Luis Castillo (3yrs of control). Then scoop up one of Bregman or Alonso, who appear to not have many suitors with the $ to sign them.

This is what I suspected: the Jays have made offers but Vlad thinks he can do better. Now with the Soto contract, he thinks he is justified to get something similar. Had he done as well as 2021 the last few seasons until this last season, I think he would be justified to a $600+ million contract and 10+ years. So Vlad's price has gone up because of Soto and to some extent Shohei last year. It's too bad things played out this way for the Jays; Vlad having two so-so years for him thus the Jays not extending him to say something like $400 and then having his great season in 2024 but two other FAs setting records. It's up to the Jays now to figure out if a $600 million contract is worth it to them, if they think Vlad can put the kind of season he just had consistently. I'm on the fence whether he can or not and my guess is so are the Jays. At least they are discussing. The thing is that Vlad in a year is the next generational talent to become a free agent and there may not be another coming soon, three years in a row. If he's not extended, he's going to test the market but he needs to put up numbers like Shohei and Soto if he wants that kind of contract. I think he will and if he does, he's going to rival $700 million. What works in his favour is that the Jays were willing to pay that kind of money to Shohei and Soto. That big contract may come to Vlad after the Jays failing two years in a row, so give it to Vlad.

y for 150 was the starting point and is 20 + per year. More than he was worth in 23. Obviously room for a counter offer, you don't start at ta number beyond what the other party os looking for. The outrage at that offer is misplaced. Vladdy is the guy who admitted to other players that he got too fat to hit in 22 and 23. He's simply not a good long term bet regardless of how well he hits every few seasons. Trade him if 340 isn't close to what he's looking for. Let someone else massibely overpay for a 1 tool player.
