as much as i love how riku is apologetically gay, the english localization missed a HUGE part of his development. in the japanese dialogue for BBS, riku wants to find the "strength to protect the things that matter" during the keyblade ceremony w/ terra in DDD, the importance develops, yet the subject still remains vague in KH3, it *finally* changes to the "strength to protect the person important to me" (大切な人) and we all know who fits in that position.
@@PolarPhantom i think this might be the case, since there's ways in japanese to be vague and the localization team often don't have the option to be vague due to language differences. One example that springs to mind is when Donald and Goofy mention that Pete was banished, in the English version they say it was "his Majesty", but in the Japanese version they use a neutral term instead. Come Birth by Sleep and it turns out it was Queen Minnie who did it. I'm surprised it wasn't fixed in re-releases.
It’s the first cutscene where Mickey and Riku are in the RoD. In the Japanese dub, Riku calls Sora his most precious person using the words “taisetsu na hito” which means precious person.(He doesn’t exactly say Sora’s name but we all know who he’s talking about), but the localization team changed it to “Strength to protect what matters”

Definitely could've still gone the Sokairi route, but Riku was part of the Destiny Island trio, the original trio, and that they would be facing certain doom the next day (and they did technically! Time travel be damned they freaking died.) and it was kinda disappointing Riku didn't at least sit with them at some point, they've been friends since they were little, and you'd kinda expect them to share or at least show us what might be their last day together (and it was, Kairi's back, but Sora's MIA, who knows when the three of them will be back together?) ..... Huh... just realized. KH1 Kairi was missing. KH2 Riku was missing. KH3 Everyone that was missing and gone from the other games got back together and saved. Would KH4 be Sora's turn to be missing? (Sure we may be playing as him, but he's isolated from everyone he knows, and no one knows where he is, with maybe AT LEAST Riku's turn to do the search questing for the missing friend.

I feel that too. To me it was Riku going, "I know he loves her and we have to accept it. If Sora died I would do the same for him, so I can't stop him from going to do it for Kairi. I love him, but I can't force him to divert his attention from Kairi. At the end of the day it's his choice." Then Mickey going, "But you love him. Shouldn't you at least go along to keep him safe?" And Riku going, "I trust him, and y'all should too." I appreciate how mature Riku is in that moment involving all that, but I honestly can't take the whole "Kairi is my light and my whole driving force. It's always been her, the only one I truly care for" thing(I'm exaggerating it but you get the point). Riku's mature reaction is completely in character, but Sora's drive to get to Kairi for those reasons seems just so forced to me because they're not true. Sora cares a lot about Riku too and a lot of the games try to ignore it at the very end by throwing in over the top forced Sokai stuff to make it seem like he only really cares about Kairi

It's just hard to tell for Sora because you get a lot of good developed Soriku scenes, a lot of forced Sokai scenes (though there are a few natural ones) and it really just all conflicts. You think Sora's chosen one, then here comes more scenes for the other ship

Dew F fucking Voltron Legendary Defender. It kinda ended like KH3. Just replace the characters: Kairi with Allura, Sora with Lance and Riku with Keith. But Allura dies instead of Lance to save everyone. And Keith’s just... totally brushed off to the side. We still very sad about it ;-; Btw you can find the show on Netflix. But watch it only if you’re prepared for a huge train wreck of a ride with a messy plot and bad ending-oh wait, that’s KH.
Riku's development, goals and personality are what they are because of Sora. He loves him so much, his personal journey consists in become stronger to protect Sora, and that's really beautiful.
The sad thing is that the actual love interest has less chemistry than the best friend. Kairi hasn't had significant character development and/or organic chemistry with Sora since Kingdom Hearts 1 and just a little bit of Kingdom Hearts 2. Most of KH2, KH handhelds, and KH3 have Kairi pushed aside, falsely hyped up (looking at you DDD ending), a damsel, a "tell don't show" especially in concerns to her "protecting Sora" and being a Keyblade wielder/Guardian of Light, and an artificial plot device on a checklist. Honestly there is an easy fix to this, but Square and Nomura just seem to forget she's part of the series and just execute any character arc of hers pretty badly. Xion and Namine are more likeable and have more character and involvement than their original persona of Kairi which is a bit sad if you tell me. Especially since Namine and Xion can be considered "shells" considering one is a nobody and the other is a memory being "puppet".
Xion is also a botched Sora clone that became more Kairi than Kairi. They could've tweaked or made the scenes just different enough for her to not get so shit on. (Example: Kairi at least trying to defend herself from Terranort, which Lea did and got bodied for, so makes sense why Sora would rush in but seriously, a hug and not straight up blocking like he did Aqua? Come on Sora! Saïx I get at least, Xion's no slouch either, but Saïx is a beast she's not prepared for, so that's fair, but Kairi just kinda let herself get kidnapped by Xemnas without much of a fight, at least have her struggle, or re-summon her Keyblade for a swing only to have it blocked, or held back like he did to Lea's before taking her, she just got taken! Those little changes would've painted Kairi out better, but just outclassed by these beasts of people (Saïx, Xemnas, taken out by Xehanort.) but she would've still lived up to the hype. Instead we got a damsel that was of little help, hell they could've made Kairi contribute to Xion's turn, (she was right there!) which in turn would've helped bring Roxas back. I'm an advocator for Kairi, and still am, this was just lazy writing towards her character, and honestly hurt the experience, this could've been Kairi at her very best as a character, and fighter after ALL the games of being on the sidelines, and then all we got was this. I hope we get to play as Kairi one day, where she'll actually be useful in the hands of a player, but as of now, we are left blue balled, fortunately everything else was at the very least decent, so good points there, but I feel Nomura underestimated how much people had a focus on her for this game, and were left disappointed as a result.

I still think KH3 was a great game with a lot of funny moments, cool music, emotional moments, and fun character interactions between the Disney characters and Sora's crew, but small changes to scenes like what you described would have smoothed out the bumps in the road. While nothing in the game was absolutely TERRIBLE (it's pretty annoying to see some comments or reviews on here that say that this game was the biggest disappointment of the year), some fixes to scenes like the Aqua VS Vanitas cutscene, the Terranort and Demon Tide cutscene, and the Keyblade Graveyard scenes with Kairi would have left a better taste in everyone's mouths. It's weird how Kairi is only in one boss fight for 30 seconds if you just bum-rush it, since she actually has combos and access to Cure and Fire (from what I have seen). It's like the potential was clearly THERE to have her do things, but they go nowhere with her? It's just really, really... odd? I remember reading some comment on Reddit somewhere on how after Kairi was kidnapped, they could have cut back to her and Xemnas after Saix's defeat, where he is shown bringing her to Master Xehanort. A hopeless boss fight could have ensued with Kairi going up against Xemnas himself, or in my opinion, Xehanort himself (with his BBS moveset reworked). Either way, Kairi could be controlled like Riku or Aqua with a pre-made moveset and while she is able to deplete Xehanort's HP, he just brushes it off like nothing because of the sheer difference in their abilities. And like the Leon battle aftermath in KH1, Kairi succumbs to exhaustion or a sneak attack from Young Xehanort to set-up the pre-final boss cutscene. Hell, MAYBE MX could have captured Sora with his 12 Keyblades and tried to kill HIM, only for Kairi to break him free and take the blow? It's something, I'm just spit-balling here. I hope that KH4 or whatever spin-off that comes next does more with her (unless any future DLC does).
@@superstarultra Kairi taking the blow for Sora would had been the most well done, heart breaking experience, Xehanort ready to forge the X-blade by striking Sora down, probably the most dangerous of the 7 guardians, only for Kairi to keep her word in protecting Sora and gets struck down in defending him, not only shattering her form, but our hearts, and so everything plays out normally onward right until the ending, with "Kairi being useless" trope gone for those changes, and Sora going to get her back, leading us to KH4 with the story relatively unchanged, but improved upon.
Yeah Ive noticed through the whole series, Sora gives 1000% more concern about Riku and his well being than he does about Kairi. Only through KH1 did he care about her. From CoM on his mind has been on one constant track: Riku. If i marathoned the games and took a shot for each time he obsessed over Riku in some way, Id die of alcohol poisoning.
In KH3 Sora said he still has to learn a lot about love... and considering how much he thinks about Riku here... the combined keyblade moment... he watched Riku protecting him from the tide not once, but twice (he doesn't remember that but hearts do)...the secret ending... I'm not sure if it's over for those two 😏 tbh i'd love Sorikai but poor Kairi they did her dirty 😫
I’m chill with Sora and Kairi being together, but I don’t see it as much as I do Sora and Riku. Sora’s first thoughts throughout most of the games have been Riku. Riku is his default thought when he thinks someone’s in danger lol

I AM SO MAD ABOUT THAT. The localisation team really killed Kairi's development. They changed dialogue so it would look like she is tough, but she is actually not that much. In Japanese Sora acknowledges that Kairi has grown, and that helps her development a lot. THEY JUST- CHANGED THAT LINE TO SOMETHING CHEESY??? The localisation team has done MANY localisation crimes. This is not all, trust me.
They did her dirty TBH. I wanna live in the alternate timeline where the 3rd member of the “main character” friend group actually got any screen time. Or character development. Or things to do relevant to the plot.
Also...I'm a big SoRiku shipper. But that's not a valid reason for some of y'all to hate on Kairi. She'd support them and be happy for them even if she does have feelings for Sora. Because she's wholesome like that.

Meanwhile, Sora goes off on a quest to find his friends which quickly devolves to just Riku, and Riku tries to win Sora back as well. Riku risks his life countless times for Sora, while Kairi does jack shit and vice versa. Now, I'm not saying Sora has to be with Riku. I can completely accept them being platonic and straight. But if you break it down by game, there is absolutely no way you can tell me that Sora has better chemistry with Kairi than with Riku
julie martinez it’s just a game lol. Plus they barely interacted in kh1. Sora was more focused on Riku than he was with Kairi. Its almost embarrassingly funny. Overall, Kairi’s worth as a character is embarrassingly funny.

Some other gay moments I've found, is the part where they use that combined keyblade to obliterate the Demon Tower. It even has a Papou Fruit as its keychain. Also when Sora says, I never looked this good, you can later find a Tweet from Sora that says the guy looks like Riku.
Thank you everyone for your Japanese dialogue versions! Another thing SENA missed is when Sora breaks down after everyone dies via Demon Tower (except Riku). Instead of saying "You don't believe that. I know you don't." Riku says "I believe in you. You won't give up." which not only carries more emotional weight (1st time he says this TO Sora when he's feeling unsure) but also apparently has a callback to KH1 that the SENA translation misses.
So here's the thing. I started watching this beautiful video and the moment Mickey said '... that other feelings disappear.' and the scene changed to Riku, it started loading. Just wanted to share.
Tbh even though I have zero hope that romance will be a huge thing in KH after what Nomura and voice actors have said, I could 100% see Riku canonically having feelings for Sora. I like Sora and Kairi too, and I think that scene of them in Halloween Town from 2 was very... it seemed like Sora had a crush? I dunno, I think it’s that Nomura doesn’t care that much to slap romance in the series as of now Anyways, I love the idea of Sora and Riku, the thought of Riku having feelings for his best friend is super relatable, but I know if that was canon and Sora x Kairi was canon, we’d all get into a big fight about if it’s positive for another tragic love story where the gay friend doesn’t get the relationship I dunno, I’m literally talking out of my ass here, but I’d be fine with that scenario as Riku supports Sora 100%. Yes, they are like brothers, but... I just question if people really can’t fathom what having friends is like when you’re gay, it’s the same shit... brotherly love, BUT ALSO, maybe you want to date your friend. Well people think Soku shippers bash Kairi because for the most part that's true. A lot of people ship Soku over SoKai because one relationship is good and the other got practically nothing since KH2 (Sora gives a hug to Kairi when he finds her, then proceeds to cry when he finds Riku. Subtle). And in KH3, her emotionlessness from KH2 shined ever brighter and she actually became a detriment to Sora and the story as a whole. Sora did not deserve this, when their relation ship developed in KH3 it didn't have any real impact because Kairi sounds like she doesn't even care, and the point to which Kairi was useless caused anyone who even slightly cares about Kairi shake their head. Also, as a side note, I don't want Riku to be canon gay for Sora, because Sora is confirmed to like Kairi and that would probably just lead to Riku getting shot down (in the nicest way possible, knowing Sora), and I don't want that to happen to Riku.

Joey Perez Sora and Kairi have no real or developed connection besides the writers saying “LOOK! They CARE about each other!” Hell, Kairi didn’t even get ANY character development PERIOD. How tf are you gonna make us care about a character with negative personality and on top of that isn’t present for most of the games? And when she is, her only purpose is to serve as either a damsel in distress because they couldn’t come up with a better motivation for Sora or she’s a deus ex machine to save Sora. The only modicum of a relationship we got with Sora and Kairi was in KH1 when they meet in the cave in Traverse Town. Meanwhile Riku and Sora’s relationship had development, as well as Riku’s character having development. You were there for it from start to finish, through all of the ups and downs. And to top it all off, Riku even dedicated over a year of his life finding, helping and eventually saving Sora. (SPOILERS) And when Sora died, Riku even went looking for him to save him. And what did Kairi do... ? I don’t care about ships but just going by the writing for this series, Riku and Sora are actually a believable couple.

In the original Japanese dub when Riku said “the strength to protect what matters” A more accurate translation would be The strength to protect A single cherished person, the same wording is used when Hercules refers to his strength project Mag and that was translated as love, so you could interpret the original Japanese dub to be the single person Riku loves. Just figured everyone would enjoy that bit of information
I was waiting for someone to make this video xD I don't care what the creators are trying to push, Riku and Sora have more chemistry than any other characters in the game, and romantic or not, they definitely love each other.
I always saw them as bros, care and love each other as family. It’s very hard for me to see them together in a romantic way. I did like Kairi and Sora as a couple but now, they honestly have no development. I wish the three of them can share a paopu fruit together, the intent doesn’t have to be romantic, just a strong friendship that is like a family. They’ll always have each other’s back no matter what and will always be connected.
I think Riku wasn't worried about Sora leaving to find Kairi ("Let him go, Mickey.") because he knew whereever Sora ended up, he would be soon to follow. In the secret ending, when Sora wakes up in what looks to be Shibuya, we can see that Riku is with him too (just in a different area). Riku's ability to travel beside Sora could have something to do with the fact that Riku was Sora's dreameater. Or it's just their connection. Just by looking at him, Riku could tell Sora had made up his mind, or maybe he could have felt it considering their hearts are "connected." In conclusion, I can literally no longer see Sora and Kairi becoming anything more than friends, especially after the ending of KH3. Square Enix had their chance, and they didn't take it. And honestly, maybe we all read it wrong from the beginning. Maybe Sora and Kairi were never written as romantic partners. Sora and Riku, on the other hand....

I honestly don't know how I feel about the Sora/Riku/Kairi triangle. They're trying to get Sora and Kairi together, but they have almost no time together. What little time they DO share is very romantic, but it feels empty because they have so little other interaction to build off of. Yes, Sora's entire journey kn KH1 was basically entirely about finding Kairi, but they still sparsely interact. Meanwhile, Sora and Riku have so much more chemistry purely because of their constant interaction. Even if their interaction had no potential romantic subtext, Sora and Riku would fit better purely because of how much they do together, something Sora is sorely lacking with Kairi. Sora and Riku have all sorts of meaningful interactions. Not just friendly/romantic ones either; The bonds of battle, both allied and against, for one. They goof off, and they collaborate. They interact! If I had to hypothesize, perhaps they have a sort of "true companions" thing going, where they have a mutual and unbreakable bond of trust. However, I also am leaning ever closer to the idea of Riku having unrequited love for Sora, who maybe has feelings for Kairi because of childhood reasons.
Even in kh1 where Sora and Kairi have the most development....it was still mostly about Sora and Riku. Soras goal trough kh1 wasn't just to save Kairi, but to find Riku and bring him home. Even in Re:Coded, which is a game that re-tells the events of kh1, which is also the game Kairi had at least some importance, Kairi doesn't appear at all until the end in a small flashback scene where she isn't even talking! Kairi just doesn't have half of the importance that Soras and Rikus bond has to the story.
2:00 THIS moment right here. right when riku faces the camera, his face was just. acceptance and understanding, in a resigned, relinquishing sort of way. his face is so soft it squeezes my heart. and when he told mickey to let sora go, it sounds like he's affirming to himself that yes, I have to let him go.
i do think it seems really heavily implied that Riku has feelings for Sora, but... to be honest, are any of us really expecting anything in canon? this is a Disney game. since when has Disney been LGBT representative? I think it’s pretty much an impossibility at this point to get any real confirmation or canon story of Riku actually admitting his feelings for Sora, especially with how the romance between Kairi and Sora was pushed. say what you want, but it was clearly, obviously meant to be romantic. seeing it any other way is just denial. Personally, I like the idea of all three of them being together, because it breaks my heart to see any of them left out, but I don’t think that’ll ever be canon, either.
Some examples of LGBT representation in Disney (Note: all around the LGBT representation is not the best with Disney, a lot of it is still just "there in the background" type stuff, but it is there and hopefully Disney will continue to advance in the right direction with this). -As already mentioned, there is a character that came out as gay in Andi Mack. -Gravity Falls has a gay relationship (Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland) in it that gets properly confirmed in the last episode, but which is made pretty obvious throughout the entire series. -They depicted same-sex relationships and kisses in Start vs. the Forces of Evil. -The shop keeper called Oaken in Frozen is gay (his husband and kids are briefly shown in the movies). -LeFou from Beauty and the Beast (not the best, but it's there). -There is a gay married couple in Zootopia (Bucky and Pronk). -The live action Disney show called "Good Luck Charlie" had a girl with two moms. -A lesbian couple is going to be depicted in the Dutch Donald Duck comics. -The main character for the live action Jungle Cruise movie that is coming out is going to be gay and have a coming out scene in the movie.
I know this comment is five years old, but, times change. What about the Owl House? That was a canon lesbian ship for the main character; despite the rumors that went around, even the creator herself has stated the show was most likely not cancelled because of the representation. Anyway, if we can have that on a Disney Channel show, I don’t see why they wouldn’t allow it in a Japanese video game. Especially since they’d get more backlash in the U.S. for not allowing it; the only reason stuff was censored in the past was because of markets overseas.

When Kairi "saves" Sora from the Final World and they are flying together holding hands, Sora has two flashbacks, one about Rapunzel and Eugene ("romantic love") and the one about Anna and Elsa (whose "sisterly" love in the film is said to be even above the romantic one). i was just wandering if the first was a reference for Kairi and Sora's relationship and the second (in which Sora himself compares Elsa's love for her sister- true love- with Riku's care for him) an allusion for Riku and Sora's. And why did Sora had those flashbacks at that moment? At first I thought he realised his love for Kairi (even if we know it was quite forced) and I thought it was a great way to do it. But then...I really couldn't connect both flashbacks with Kairi and Sora. It was undoubtedly a crucial moment for Sora and Kairi development, but then again there's a reference for "brotherly" or "platonic" , or whatever we call it, love between Riku and Sora. It really confused me. and while Kairi did explicitly declared her love for Sora, he was quite ambiguous about it, never really giving a straight answer, apart from "I'll protect you". I know I'm surely reading too much into this, and I don't play kh3 just for the "soap opera things" (although I like them), but I really wanted to know what you think about that scene in particular.
after 4 years you will know by now but that scene has secrets: kairi is no longer sora's light, in that moment it's riku , sora recognized him right away the first time but after saving everyone he seems to forget it (maybe as punishment for having abused the power of awakening) and it is clear why while they are about to exit the tunnel sora is clearly pulled out by someone else, and the light does not come from kairi even if she is clever and positions herself in favor of the camera 🤬 however while they are talking kairi says she having believed in sora and this reminds him of riku's words before his sacrifice, that's why the flashes on Eugene/Rapunzel and Anna/elsa, are sacrifices of love like what riku did for him! for this sora seems disoriented, he doesn't understand well but he knows that something is not right, that there shouldn't be kairi at her side, too bad the thought seems to escape him ...

One example that springs to mind is when Donald and Goofy mention that Pete was banished, in the English version they say it was "his Majesty", but in the Japanese version they use a neutral term instead. Come Birth by Sleep and it turns out it was Queen Minnie who did it. I'm surprised it wasn't fixed in re-releases.

Definitely could've still gone the Sokairi route, but Riku was part of the Destiny Island trio, the original trio, and that they would be facing certain doom the next day (and they did technically! Time travel be damned they freaking died.) and it was kinda disappointing Riku didn't at least sit with them at some point, they've been friends since they were little, and you'd kinda expect them to share or at least show us what might be their last day together (and it was, Kairi's back, but Sora's MIA, who knows when the three of them will be back together?)

I feel that too. To me it was Riku going, "I know he loves her and we have to accept it. If Sora died I would do the same for him, so I can't stop him from going to do it for Kairi. I love him, but I can't force him to divert his attention from Kairi. At the end of the day it's his choice." Then Mickey going, "But you love him. Shouldn't you at least go along to keep him safe?" And Riku going, "I trust him, and y'all should too."
I appreciate how mature Riku is in that moment involving all that, but I honestly can't take the whole "Kairi is my light and my whole driving force. It's always been her, the only one I truly care for" thing(I'm exaggerating it but you get the point). Riku's mature reaction is completely in character, but Sora's drive to get to Kairi for those reasons seems just so forced to me because they're not true. Sora cares a lot about Riku too and a lot of the games try to ignore it at the very end by throwing in over the top forced Sokai stuff to make it seem like he only really cares about Kairi

It's just hard to tell for Sora because you get a lot of good developed Soriku scenes, a lot of forced Sokai scenes (though there are a few natural ones) and it really just all conflicts. Riku's development, goals and personality are what they are because of Sora. He loves him so much, his personal journey consists in become stronger to protect Sora, and that's really beautiful.
The sad thing is that the actual love interest has less chemistry than the best friend. Kairi hasn't had significant character development and/or organic chemistry with Sora since Kingdom Hearts 1 and just a little bit of Kingdom Hearts 2. Most of KH2, KH handhelds, and KH3 have Kairi pushed aside, falsely hyped up (looking at you DDD ending), a damsel, a "tell don't show" especially in concerns to her "protecting Sora" and being a Keyblade wielder/Guardian of Light, and an artificial plot device on a checklist. Honestly there is an easy fix to this, but Square and Nomura just seem to forget she's part of the series and just execute any character arc of hers pretty badly. Xion and Namine are more likeable and have more character and involvement than their original persona of Kairi which is a bit sad if you tell me. Especially since Namine and Xion can be considered "shells" considering one is a nobody and the other is a memory being "puppet".
Xion is also a botched Sora clone that became more Kairi than Kairi. They could've tweaked or made the scenes just different enough for her to not get so shit on. (Example: Kairi at least trying to defend herself from Terranort, which Lea did and got bodied for, so makes sense why Sora would rush in but seriously, a hug and not straight up blocking like he did Aqua? Come on Sora! Saïx I get at least, Xion's no slouch either, but Saïx is a beast she's not prepared for, so that's fair, but Kairi just kinda let herself get kidnapped by Xemnas without much of a fight, at least have her struggle, or re-summon her Keyblade for a swing only to have it blocked, or held back like he did to Lea's before taking her, she just got taken! Those little changes would've painted Kairi out better, but just outclassed by these beasts of people (Saïx, Xemnas, taken out by Xehanort.) but she would've still lived up to the hype. Instead we got a damsel that was of little help, hell they could've made Kairi contribute to Xion's turn, (she was right there!) which in turn would've helped bring Roxas back. I'm an advocator for Kairi, and still am, this was just lazy writing towards her character, and honestly hurt the experience, this could've been Kairi at her very best as a character, and fighter after ALL the games of being on the sidelines, and then all we got was this. I hope we get to play as Kairi one day, where she'll actually be useful in the hands of a player, but as of now, we are left blue balled, fortunately everything else was at the very least decent, so good points there, but I feel Nomura underestimated how much people had a focus on her for this game, and were left disappointed as a result.

I still think KH3 was a great game with a lot of funny moments, cool music, emotional moments, and fun character interactions between the Disney characters and Sora's crew, but small changes to scenes like what you described would have smoothed out the bumps in the road. While nothing in the game was absolutely TERRIBLE (it's pretty annoying to see some comments or reviews on here that say that this game was the biggest disappointment of the year), some fixes to scenes like the Aqua VS Vanitas cutscene, the Terranort and Demon Tide cutscene, and the Keyblade Graveyard scenes with Kairi would have left a better taste in everyone's mouths.
It's weird how Kairi is only in one boss fight for 30 seconds if you just bum-rush it, since she actually has combos and access to Cure and Fire (from what I have seen). It's like the potential was clearly THERE to have her do things, but they go nowhere with her? It's just really, really... odd? I remember reading some comment on Reddit somewhere on how after Kairi was kidnapped, they could have cut back to her and Xemnas after Saix's defeat, where he is shown bringing her to Master Xehanort. A hopeless boss fight could have ensued with Kairi going up against Xemnas himself, or in my opinion, Xehanort himself (with his BBS moveset reworked). Either way, Kairi could be controlled like Riku or Aqua with a pre-made moveset and while she is able to deplete Xehanort's HP, he just brushes it off like nothing because of the sheer difference in their abilities. And like the Leon battle aftermath in KH1, Kairi succumbs to exhaustion or a sneak attack from Young Xehanort to set-up the pre-final boss cutscene. Hell, MAYBE MX could have captured Sora with his 12 Keyblades and tried to kill HIM, only for Kairi to break him free and take the blow? It's something, I'm just spit-balling here.
I hope that KH4 or whatever spin-off that comes next does more with her (unless any future DLC does).
@@superstarultra Kairi taking the blow for Sora would had been the most well done, heart breaking experience, Xehanort ready to forge the X-blade by striking Sora down, probably the most dangerous of the 7 guardians, only for Kairi to keep her word in protecting Sora and gets struck down in defending him, not only shattering her form, but our hearts, and so everything plays out normally onward right until the ending, with "Kairi being useless" trope gone for those changes, and Sora going to get her back, leading us to KH4 with the story relatively unchanged, but improved upon.

Yeah Ive noticed through the whole series, Sora gives 1000% more concern about Riku and his well being than he does about Kairi. Only through KH1 did he care about her. From CoM on his mind has been on one constant track: Riku. If i marathoned the games and took a shot for each time he obsessed over Riku in some way, Id die of alcohol poisoning.

Thank you everyone for your Japanese dialogue versions! Another thing SENA missed is when Sora breaks down after everyone dies via Demon Tower (except Riku). Instead of saying "You don't believe that. I know you don't." Riku says "I believe in you. You won't give up." which not only carries more emotional weight (1st time he says this TO Sora when he's feeling unsure) but also apparently has a callback to KH1 that the SENA translation misses.
So here's the thing. I started watching this beautiful video and the moment Mickey said '... that other feelings disappear.' and the scene changed to Riku, it started loading. Just wanted to share.

Well people think Soku shippers bash Kairi because for the most part that's true. A lot of people ship Soku over SoKai because one relationship is good and the other got practically nothing since KH2 (Sora gives a hug to Kairi when he finds her, then proceeds to cry when he finds Riku. Subtle). And in KH3, her emotionlessness from KH2 shined ever brighter and she actually became a detriment to Sora and the story as a whole. Sora did not deserve this, when their relation ship developed in KH3 it didn't have any real impact because Kairi sounds like she doesn't even care, and the point to which Kairi was useless caused anyone who even slightly cares about Kairi shake their head.
Also, as a side note, I don't want Riku to be canon gay for Sora, because Sora is confirmed to like Kairi and that would probably just lead to Riku getting shot down (in the nicest way possible, knowing Sora), and I don't want that to happen to Riku.

Joey Perez Sora and Kairi have no real or developed connection besides the writers saying “LOOK! They CARE about each other!” Hell, Kairi didn’t even get ANY character development PERIOD. How tf are you gonna make us care about a character with negative personality and on top of that isn’t present for most of the games? And when she is, her only purpose is to serve as either a damsel in distress because they couldn’t come up with a better motivation for Sora or she’s a deus ex machine to save Sora. The only modicum of a relationship we got with Sora and Kairi was in KH1 when they meet in the cave in Traverse Town.
Meanwhile Riku and Sora’s relationship had development, as well as Riku’s character having development. You were there for it from start to finish, through all of the ups and downs. And to top it all off, Riku even dedicated over a year of his life finding, helping and eventually saving Sora. (SPOILERS) And when Sora died, Riku even went looking for him to save him. And what did Kairi do... ?

Like yes, that’s canon, brotherly love, they are that close. But that doesn’t mean that stops there. Also romance really doesn’t seem to be Nomura’s main focus with the way he talks about the paopu fruit scene. Paopus definitely seem romantic, but what doesn’t seem to point in that direction is Nomura’s words about the fruit exchange itself being platonic. I definitely read romance into it on Sora and Kairis part, on some level, but apparently it’s really not that much from the way he talks about it
In the original Japanese dub when Riku said “the strength to protect what matters” A more accurate translation would be The strength to protect A single cherished person, the same wording is used when Hercules refers to his strength project Mag and that was translated as love, so you could interpret the original Japanese dub to be the single person Riku loves.

I always saw them as bros, care and love each other as family. It’s very hard for me to see them together in a romantic way. I did like Kairi and Sora as a couple but now, they honestly have no development. I wish the three of them can share a paopu fruit together, the intent doesn’t have to be romantic, just a strong friendship that is like a family. They’ll always have each other’s back no matter what and will always be connected.

I think Riku wasn't worried about Sora leaving to find Kairi ("Let him go, Mickey.") because he knew whereever Sora ended up, he would be soon to follow.
In the secret ending, when Sora wakes up in what looks to be Shibuya, we can see that Riku is with him too (just in a different area). Riku's ability to travel beside Sora could have something to do with the fact that Riku was Sora's dreameater.
Or it's just their connection. Just by looking at him, Riku could tell Sora had made up his mind, or maybe he could have felt it considering their hearts are "connected."
In conclusion, I can literally no longer see Sora and Kairi becoming anything more than friends, especially after the ending of KH3. Square Enix had their chance, and they didn't take it. And honestly, maybe we all read it wrong from the beginning. Maybe Sora and Kairi were never written as romantic partners. Sora and Riku, on the other hand....

I honestly don't know how I feel about the Sora/Riku/Kairi triangle. They're trying to get Sora and Kairi together, but they have almost no time together. What little time they DO share is very romantic, but it feels empty because they have so little other interaction to build off of. Yes, Sora's entire journey kn KH1 was basically entirely about finding Kairi, but they still sparsely interact.
Meanwhile, Sora and Riku have so much more chemistry purely because of their constant interaction. Even if their interaction had no potential romantic subtext, Sora and Riku would fit better purely because of how much they do together, something Sora is sorely lacking with Kairi. Sora and Riku have all sorts of meaningful interactions. Not just friendly/romantic ones either; The bonds of battle, both allied and against, for one. They goof off, and they collaborate. They interact!
If I had to hypothesize, perhaps they have a sort of "true companions" thing going, where they have a mutual and unbreakable bond of trust. However, I also am leaning ever closer to the idea of Riku having unrequited love for Sora, who maybe has feelings for Kairi because of childhood reasons.
Interaction time has nothing to do with romantic intrest.

Soras goal trough kh1 wasn't just to save Kairi, but to find Riku and bring him home.
Even in Re:Coded, which is a game that re-tells the events of kh1, which is also the game Kairi had at least some importance, Kairi doesn't appear at all until the end in a small flashback scene where she isn't even talking!
Kairi just doesn't have half of the importance that Soras and Rikus bond has to the story.

-The live action Disney show called "Good Luck Charlie" had a girl with two moms.
-A lesbian couple is going to be depicted in the Dutch Donald Duck comics.
-The main character for the live action Jungle Cruise movie that is coming out is going to be gay and have a coming out scene in the movie.

I know this comment is five years old, but, times change. What about the Owl House? That was a canon lesbian ship for the main character; despite the rumors that went around, even the creator herself has stated the show was most likely not cancelled because of the representation. Anyway, if we can have that on a Disney Channel show, I don’t see why they wouldn’t allow it in a Japanese video game. Especially since they’d get more backlash in the U.S. for not allowing it; the only reason stuff was censored in the past was because of markets overseas.

i could see repliku and namine but only because his memories were edited and like protecting here was his whole life purpose but not regular riku
that’s why i hated it when everyone aced like he was “paired off” with namine when she was just finally being able to have a moment as a human and finally have a body at the end of kh3 like anything gets shipped when 2 people stand within 5 feet of each other
@@FungeG yeah replinami was better tbh I think namine works better with repliku or vanitas (aka me thinking I'm the only one who ships then more than anything else and thinks it's cute and better than rikunami lol) also people hating rikunami and defending rokunami and hating namine and riku or STILL defending rikunami and saying they are ment for each other disgusts me so bad like damn never knew shippers are THAT crazy I don't hate riku and namine (aka best girl I love her so much) it's just I think rikunami is a forced ship sorry and yeah I miss repliku and vanitas SO MUCH (and soriku stills wins)
lina guerri i nisss repliku and vanitas too i love them so much vanitas was my favorite antagonist and i feel like repliku kinda carried Sora’s part of COM he made all the scenes so interesting
God they have so much more chemistry than Kairi and Sora. But Kairi barely has screentime ans character developement, so it's nothing I'm surprised about
Right? Lea/Axel and her got more development in 2 scenes than her and Sora ever since they were kids.

(I love Riku and Sora together, even just seeing them as friend, I don't really care what is their relationship. I liked sora and Kairi together at first but...now having them together for me would be a little awkward and forced even if there are good feelings)
just wanted to ask something about kh3 Riku/Sora/Kairi relationship. When Kairi "saves" Sora from the Final World and they are flying together holding hands, Sora has two flashbacks, one about Rapunzel and Eugene ("romantic love") and the one about Anna and Elsa (whose "sisterly" love in the film is said to be even above the romantic one).
i was just wandering if the first was a reference for Kairi and Sora's relationship and the second (in which Sora himself compares Elsa's love for her sister- true love- with Riku's care for him) an allusion for Riku and Sora's. And why did Sora had those flashbacks at that moment? At first I thought he realised his love for Kairi (even if we know it was quite forced) and I thought it was a great way to do it. But then...I really couldn't connect both flashbacks with Kairi and Sora. It was undoubtedly a crucial moment for Sora and Kairi development, but then again there's a reference for "brotherly" or "platonic" , or whatever we call it, love between Riku and Sora. It really confused me. and while Kairi did explicitly declared her love for Sora, he was quite ambiguous about it, never really giving a straight answer, apart from "I'll protect you".
I know I'm surely reading too much into this, and I don't play kh3 just for the "soap opera things" (although I like them), but I really wanted to know what you think about that scene in particular.
after 4 years you will know by now but that scene has secrets: kairi is no longer sora's light, in that moment it's riku , sora recognized him right away the first time but after saving everyone he seems to forget it (maybe as punishment for having abused the power of awakening) and it is clear why while they are about to exit the tunnel sora is clearly pulled out by someone else, and the light does not come from kairi even if she is clever and positions herself in favor of the camera 🤬 however while they are talking kairi says she having believed in sora and this reminds him of riku's words before his sacrifice, that's why the flashes on Eugene/Rapunzel and Anna/elsa, are sacrifices of love like what riku did for him! for this sora seems disoriented, he doesn't understand well but he knows that something is not right, that there shouldn't be kairi at her side, too bad the thought seems to escape him ...
