Okay, Dolly Parton is amazing. She turned down the Presidential Medal of Freedom TWICE. She started a non profit organization. She turned down a statue of herself. She saved a girl's life. She is a great singer, who came from a small town in the middle of no where. She uses her fame to do good things in the world, and overall, she's just a fantastic person.

She beat the system if you think about it. All those rewards can get to anyone’s head because that’s how they mess with you, unless the person is super humble. And Dolly is so humble and kind hearted that she rather keep helping people as much as she can than get a statue built of her. She started from scratch, and that’s admirable. In my opinion all that hard work and the love she spreads is better than any award

Dolly has orchestrated a MASSIVE literacy program that donates tons of books to children in under-served areas. She was inspired by her father, who was incredibly intelligent, but was never taught to read. Not having that skill held him back and limited his potential, and Dolly didn't want any other person to go through that. She founded the Imagination Library, which delivers books to about 1.3 MILLION children **each month.**

My mom knew who she was, but we were stupid kids and just saw her an just another lady. We talked for a few minutes and she just loved how sweet we were. She said that we could have whatever we asked for because of how well behaved we were. My mom was hopung we'd pick seasonal passes since we went to DollyWood a lot. However, we were stupid kids. Tennessee resident here. I’m an hour from Sevierville. I wanted something else to be known: in 2016, wildfires RIPPED through the Great Smoky Mountains. It killed 20 people, and put thousands of residents in bad shape (financially, emotionally, mentally...). They lost homes and friends and jobs, and a lot of them suffered burns trying to get away. Dolly literally paid bills for countless residents who needed it for months on end. She reconstructed smaller businesses and helped raise funds for organizations designed to build back the community. And I’m not even touching on everything she did during such a devastating time. She gave life back to the community she lives in, owns business in and is known for. She is a gem of a human being and that’s why we love her so much.

(Sevier County/Dollywood is right down the road from me, so my family and I go often.) I remember when she decided to change the name to Dolly Patton’s Stampede and sooo many ppl were butt hurt for some reason saying “I can’t believe Dolly folded under the pressure to actually change the name of this legendary theater.” But here’s the thing, not one person actually asked Dolly to do this. There was no pressure, from anyone. It had really never been brought up. Dolly on her OWN realized how problematic this name was and decided on her OWN to change it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Because that’s just what a boss Queen she is. Dolly is a national treasure and must be protected at all costs. ❤️

Being from New Orleans exposes you to all walks of life at a young age. But in the late 80's people were very low key if they supported alternative lifestyles. I saw a interview of Dolly on MTV that impacted my voice on equality. Hearing her sweet but sassy and very direct support of homosexual lifestyles and marriage equality fired me up.
