Adam, that was so cool the way you handled the question. There is a whole lot to learn in this passion; pixelation? Now I have learned something to look for if ever there is a chance for me to take a moving water image. You are a very good teacher, because you make look and sound easy. You're comfortable explaining it. Thanks for taking the time. Bill.

Great tip Adam! You are the first person that has ever mentioned doing this on any focus stacking videos I have watched. You might have just saved me from having to re-shoot a focus stacking image to solve this problem, thanks!

Adam I rename the layers to prevent accidentally editing the wrong one, and it one less thing to keep in my little head, ie front, middle, back. I have been renaming layers for many things because it only takes a second.

    Can this still be done?
I have tried everything I can think of but I cannot edit the mask.
    Brush
    Black, White (tried both)
    Changed blend modes.
Nothing I do let’s me edit the mask.

I like how you slightly applied the polarization, nice result 50/50 better than taking off all the light reflection 100%

Thank you Adam - I was disabling or deleting entire mask, once I had created a new layer from visible and masking out to reinstate areas from below, thinking (as you would) that it would be the same as reinstating areas with white brush - but no its not (which is a concern) - thankfully your more subtle fix does reinstate the troubled areas 🙂

That was really helpful Adam. Thanks for that follow up. I think it will be beneficial to really inspect the masks after we let photoshop do its thing. We might learn what its doing so we can fix the anomalies later. Thank you! ☺

Really enjoyed both parts Adam, thank you. I don’t want to appear to be a smart a***, but you can automatically fill a new mask with black by holding down Alt (Option on a Mac? ) and clicking the mask button. Not a big deal I know, but does save a bit of typing. Atb.

Thanks Adam, I get that pixelated look quite a bit in ON1 Photo Raw if I use that to focus stack so have tended to use Affinity Photo of Helicon Focus (not been able to buy it after the trial yet). Must try this technique.

Thanks Adam, It would be nice it next you cover the issues with out of focus areas very close to the camera hide the background objects. That happens a lot with wide lenses where some content is hidden when the correct focus is achieved at the given distance and there is nothing to fill in shows spots. I recall it was in one of your images with the 16-35 in the twisted forest.
Love the t-shirt... is that a fototripper selfie? His face looks like linguine left after the water' in the pot has all boiled away.

I have found that Photoshop 2021 is fast and easy for focus blending, but it is sometimes confused and clumsy. It not only pixellates on occasion, it also sometimes picks from the wrong layer for part of the image. I prefer Helicon Focus because it tends to do a superior job of focus stacking. I just hate buying an annual license for Helicon Focus. You might consider a video that demonstrates using Helicon Focus.

The mask on the bottom layer can be completely removed. Upper layers will overwrite it anyway with their sharp (revealed) areas. One thing less to fix.

Most of the time, I prefer to blend the layers manualy. The software tends to choose inconsistent areas... I'm not 100% confident :/

Good night Adam! I have a question, I take a lot of marine photographs generally between 1/6 and 1 second of exposure, I do focus stacking between 3 and 4 focuses and when I order them to stack in Photoshop it also causes problems because the movement of the water is different from one photo to another, what can I do to resolve this? thanks!

    • @QuietLightPhoto
      @QuietLightPhoto  10 месяцев назад

Probably the easiest way is to do the stacking by hand and use layers. Paint in the parts that you want changed in the frame; that's what I usually do.
