Its not about the Wifi being bad or good. For Peer to Peer connections the switch uses, the nat type is important. Hotels and your Hotspot (Phone Wifi) have nat type D most of the time because they have no public IPv4 adress or they block the Ports that are neccessary for peer to peer connection. With nat type D you cannot connect to other players hence he did not find any matches

That's what I came here to say. When he weather balled the incin it blew my mind as a casual player.
This reminds me of one of Wolfe Glick's videos where he tutors a Chess player on how to play Pokémon VGC Doubles. I remember one crucial quote: You have to not only look at the current board state, but also the board state of all possible next two or three moves and plan for the possibilities.

I defo picked Palafin first. I’m more a Singles than Doubles and Palafin + Choice Scarf Flip Turn is STRONG. Especially if you have a defensive pivot or tanks.

I like to think your first opponent is some Japanese kid that now thinks Mega Chimeco is the most powerful thing to ever enter Competitive Pokemon and you've sent them on a quest now to be the best Mega Chimeco user who ever lived.
It's just the bots. All the Japanese named players are the bots they give you when you lose or at the start
@AlmostMeantToBe Yeah, I'm not a good player and from being stuck in Pokeball Rank 4 I can guarantee you that the first 2 battles in that rank are AI enemies. The third has always been a player so far.

That Victreebel hitting so many sleep powders in a row made that game a cakewalk, i even felt bad fot the opponent, they also stayed asleep every single time.
It heard Wolfey saying the mega was garbage and tried to change his mind
4 sleep powders in a row is a 31% chance. The really brutal thing was staying asleep every time.

Playing this game during the immediate hours after launch was awesome because every person you queued up with was probably a kid who has no idea what competitive Pokemon is. Watching my opponent's Garchomp use Scary Face on my Steelix was the hardest I've ever laughed at a Pokemon game.

Yeah, i think its pretty clear that there are bots in this game. Ive played against 3 players in a row who were clearly npc's.
anything you face that uses scary face on you is a bot. Had the bots using scary face on me while I had trick room up
@BzKnz220 not me they had Japanese letters in their names when I played Early at lunch during 5 am so I know those were kids/people from across the country who was waking up and playing I didn't get a single English person until my 4th or 5th match in
One of my opponents had a Charizard who used scary face on my already slow Snorlax and support/set up Sylveon 😭

One quality of life change that I noticed is that quad-effective moves now have their own label (extremely effective), which I think is a very good change, especially for new players

Having only played online battles in showdown, it’s crazy hearing him say “I can’t get over how fast everything is moving”.
He definitely uses Showdown for testing teams, more of a comment about an actual game being fast

Unfortunately this $ Trillion dollar company cannot care about polishing and going above and beyond. People will buy pokemon no matter how much it is half ased, so they don't have to try. It feels like they have only been interested in creating minimal viable products for a long time, instead of creating exceptional products. 20-30 FPS should be EXTINCT by now.

So far from what I've played the game is seperated into two types of players: One, players who have no clue how to play competitive. Two, Professional players who have just sent over their best Pokemon from home.
There’s a third type like me. That has all the shiny battle pokemon ready to go with zero idea how to use them.
I've never played any Pokemon game for the Switch, so I'm sending over Pokemon from my girlfriend's Pokemon GO account😬 (I also never played Pokemon GO)
Fourth type like me, has never played competitive before but threw together a team with mon from Home bc I kinda remember some of them being good from other Wolfe videos I've watched
5th type. Using the mons you like and not whats "meta" or whatever. A.K.A. how most people should play
6th type: sending my full ZA playthrough team(minus dragalge, he missed the note to join champions) and trying to make the team work competitively. Got to great ball tier 2 so i guess im doing ok.
Low tier people doesnt really know what is wide guard. Advised to bring it against newbie that does nothing but spamming spread move every turn.
(Also ariados is oddly usable even though he shouldnt becuz of rage powder lol

When I first saw the list of mons that were in Champions, my first instinct was that Palafin, Incineroar, and Sinistcha were gonna be a strong core. It actually made me really happy to hear that Wolfe had the same thought

The Air BNB idea was really smart when the hotel didn’t work, the call with Scarlet was a crazy pull (Scarlet MVP!) regular mic or fancy mic I think that all of your fans come for your gameplay and commentary so as long as we can hear you at all it’s so fine whether it’s filmed on a phone mic or fancy mic. Anyone who expects studio quality while you’re traveling would be nuts!
