Honestly I believe that Anna Draper belonged on the list, not just honorable mention. She has more influence on Don's life than half of the first list of characters.
Totally agree. But I guess it's bcuz she's part of the recurring cast. Coming from time to season once in a while. But still... Her short scenes are enough to put her at least on the top 5, my opinion :)
Machi I think she reminded him of the woman that nursed him back to health and then seduced him when he was a young man. She had a beauty mark in the same spot on her cheek.

Let me tell you this though, not many of Don's mistresses are great or likable enough characters, Midge is just a drug addicted beatnik, Megan may be a fun character, but she is too moody and sometimes too annoyingly dramatic and whiny, Sylvia is boring and so on and so forth. Bobbie has a great idea of being an independent woman, but she is pretty evil and easily fell for and made Don simp for her, ruining his marriage to Betty (even though it is also partly Don's fault for being a simp). Even Betty is not all great with the cold way she acts towards Don and how she abuses Sally and Bobby. The only ones which are great are the school teacher (her name is Suzanne Farrell), Dr. Faye Miller, Rachel Menken and maybe Diana, even tough even she is a bit too underdeveloped and only appears in 2 episodes.
Take Trudy and Jane off the list. They were, at best, two-dimensional bit characters with less to do in the plotline than any other character mentioned. Replace them with Anna and Bobbie. She was less idealistic than Suzanne, more driven than Midge, less serious than Faye, less manipulative than Megan, far more fun than Betty. Anna was Don's rock. She was tremendously forgiving of something Don did which was illegal, mainly because she understood the why. I think she also recognized that her life would have been no better with the original Don alive(she did say he preferred her sister). With this Don, she had a house that was paid for and what looked like a pretty great life in a fantastic environment, hence her comment, "I always thought we came into each other's lives to make them better(paraphrase)." Other than that, good list. I would actually have Pegs and Joan 1 and 1a, if it were possible.

TWD is not good anymore agree, mad men is a character study so if you dont like that or the time its taking place in dont expect to like it.
Joan honestly is number 1 and this coming from a die hard Peggy fan. Joan’s evolution was nothing short of inspirational considering all the sexual abuse and slander she experienced throughout the series. Her endurance and her ability to always choose herself and her needs over any silly relationship. That’s strength. She is the definition of surviving in a mans world
People need to stop hating on Betty. She did everything for her family and had to deal with it being thrown back at her face by don and sally. How would you feel if you were a successful model, being a muse to an Italian designer to having to deal with a dull suburban life with a man that cheats on you. I've always sympathized with her.
People hate betty because shes full of shit. She cheats on her husband with her ex husband you know the one who consistently cheated on her and then the next day meets with him like nothings happened.
I actually really like Betty and I think I understand her, but I think it is really hard to others to sympathize with her because of the way she looks and acts.
Believe me, I do sympathize with Betty - because being a "stay at home mom" doesn't provide the kind of benefits as a model or traveling around the world. Unfortunately, being a woman these are the choices we make to work outside the home or inside the home.
Sally threw it in her face because Betty was an awful abusive parent. Betty did everything for the idea of the prim and proper suburban family, not for her actual children. To be fair to Betty, if she had lived in an era where remaining childfree had been acceptable, she certainly would never have had children. It wasn’t something she wanted but something she was told to want. However, that doesn’t excuse her behavior toward her children.
I felt sorry for Betty more than anything. If someone hates on Betty, they are not really watching the show carefully enough, are unfamiliar with much of American life of the time period, or are perhaps just a-holes themselves?🤣😶 Though "innocent" Betty pulled a pretty big, but SUBTLE "asshole move" when she set up a lunch with her riding companions--that one gal and the young man at the riding stables. Can't remember the characters names, but my sympathy for Betty took a serious HIT when she did that. LOVED Betty with the BB gun shooting her neighbors pigeons--cigarette dangling from her mouth🤣🤣 And I kind of cheered her on when she realized that she was being GROSSLY disrespected by Don--and the Heinken Beer display and the party afterwards was when she was "red-pilled'. Also liked the WRITING and the acting when Betty's friend and neighbor played by the actor Ann Dudek came over to cry on Betty's shoulder about her husband Carlton cheating on her, and the Ann Dudek character ended up "laughing" when she realized how utterly CLUELESS Betty had been about DON's cheating....That was Emmy material there!🤣😳😶
Ugh. Normally I agree pretty well with your lists, but SERIOUSLY?? You include Jane Sterling and Anna Draper only gets an honorable mention?! Sure, Jane was in the show more, but Anna's influence on plot lines was HUGE. And two semi-anonymous lovers get honorable mentions but Marie Calvet doesn't? Come ON, WatchMojo. You can do better than this! (Disclaimer: I may be just a tiny bit passionate about Mad Men. :-) )
+PapaMagnum I totally disliked her, her character was made to be just in passing one in Dons love live, lack of real chemistry.. Even th. she was really sweet and all.
I couldn't stand her, way too confident and yet her Pond's beauty brainstorm session was an utter disaster, half the girls ran out in floods of tears And holding up the false wedding ring saying, " this is a stop sign ......" What a tart! One of my favourite scenes is Don dumping her over the phone.
Come on, Betty was cheated on and emotionally abused by her husband, repressed, and hit on by her Alzheimers-ridden father, and yes, she's all of those things, but why don't we ever talk about how terrible her life was?
I think don was a father figure towards Peggy and that's why she cared so much about him, because she never had a father growing up to look after her and give her confidence. Don gave her strength
I think that, and the fact that he obviously loved his own children (except his second son with Betty) is probably the ONLY redeeming thing about Donald Draper. I know many see him as a handsome sex symbol, but when one watches the show with a more careful eye, one realizes that Don is basically only ONE RUNG down on the ladder from being a full blown SOCIOPATH. (But he is not alone in his mostly sociopathic behavior....Roger Sterling might come in second right behind Don....No, I take that back...Roger might be MORE of a sociopath than Don, given what I can piece together of their backgrounds. Don at least had some excuses for HIS sociopathic behavior given his background and upbringing. Roger appears to have been born with a "silver spoon" in his mouth...But at least Roger felt bad enough to cry later on when the shoe-shine boy died😒....And just because one might be a sociopath, doesn't necessarily mean they can't be actually liked. Roger was a VERY charismatic character....Given his alcohol consumption, combined with his sociopathy, by rights he SHOULD have been a first class ASSHOLE, even by early 1960's standards. But it's almost impossible for me to hate Roger even though I SHOULD.😶)
Well, the only reason why Joan rose as a partner in the agency was because she slept with one of the clients but her character had a great ending when she was able to put up her own company through her sheer skills and hardwork. Though Betty acquired a terminal illness in the last season, her character had a great ending too. She was able to go back to school and fixed her relationship with Sally and Don. God I miss this show.
Here's my list 1. Christina Hendricks' right boob 2. Christina Hendricks' left boob 3. Christina Hendricks' face 4. Christina Hendricks' butt 5. Christina Hendricks' hair 6. Christina Hendricks' eyes 7. Christina Hendricks' hips 8. Christina Hendricks' voice 9. Christina Hendricks' legs 10. Peggy Olson
This show is so amazing, gonna be in my heart for a long time why it's gonna end, so many memories from this show :'). The best woman is definitely betty draper and the best episode is obviously the suitcase love it.
Though Joan Harris is a close second and sexier I just love betty draper so much I think Peggy Olson will be number 1 though great performances by their actors
+Lythya if that was the case peggy wouldn't have been number one...but i do agree some women were there just because they looked good like that jane...how the hell is she influential
ohh sally! I always thought that version of "sexy" was sort of fake: a lot of emotional smoke and mirrors, no one is being real, reminds me of when Joan/Peggy put on a high pitched, girly voice for some men. I believe in what Shmoop once said (paraphrased): "Your awkward selves are more sexy than any mask". I prefer the real sexy: confidence, a proud stride, and a lil bit of mischief and some emotional opening up.
I hate lists of “powerful women” where the women are “powerful” because of the effects they have on men or how much they help someone ELSEs development
Well you kinda have to base them off that when the show is about a man, their whole point in the show was to help Don develop his story, the one truly powerful girl that I believe wasn’t for Dons development was Trudy and to me, she’s the best girl in MadMen
Oh yeah, and a pretty smart and tough gal too! Though I WOULD have to wonder what in the HELL a gal like her saw in PAUL KINSEY!!😳🤣🤣🤣 Loved how she "tore Paul a new one" when Paul confronted her about his girlfriend Sheila🤣🤣🤣
1) Joan Harris (Holloway) (Yes, I think at the end of it, she turned out to be even more interesting than Peggy) 2) Peggy Olson 3) Betty Draper 4) Sally Draper 5) Anna Draper 6) Rachel Menkin 7) Midge Daniels 8) Trudy Campbell 9) Margaret Sterling 10) Megan Draper
I must respectfully disagree with #2 & #1. Joan was truly the strongest & most independent lady on the show. Peggy was superb & her growth was incredible, but EVERY single thing that Joan wanted changed by the end of the show without her even having a clue she wasn't actually happy, at the beginning. Joan was truly Don's equal. Peggy was like his protege/daughter-type (Sally aside.) I truly love them both & think theu were both great, complex characters - but I do believe Joan was one of those legendary, infamous characters that will be remembered.
the way bettys storyline ends truly makes me cry....she was diagnosed with Terminal lung cancer and her last scene was seen of her smoking a cigarette and reading the paper, but what really got me was how she was ready to die and she told sally what she wanted and all that and i imagine bettys funeral as she’s laying there, elegant, poise and forever young and beautiful ♥️
10. Megan Draper 9. Bobbie Barrett 8. Ida Blankenship 7. Trudy Campbell 6. Jane Sterling 5. Anna Draper 4. Betty Francis 3. Peggy Olson 2. Joan Harris 1. Sally Draper And, because I couldn´t resist, here´s the men too: 10. Bertram Cooper 9. Bob Benson 8. Duck Phillips 7. Salvatore Romano 6. Stan Rizzo 5. Freddy Rumsen 4. Pete Campbell 3. Roger Sterling 2. Lane Pryce 1. Don Draper
I don't know why they always put in characters we love to hate. I personally disliked all the mistress in the show, the leads and characters who never leave the show are the best ones. Sally and Trudy should have been higher and some of the honorable mentions should have been in the list.
Not to spoil anything, but if any of you watched the midseason premiere of Mad Men, one woman on this list ended up impacting Don a lot more than he thought.
Clarence Brown Peggy complained and moaned throughout the whole show. And while a hard worker, she had an unbecoming sense of entitlement. She had it way better than most, despite being a woman. Definitely top 10, but not #1. (For me)
Fernando Baez I would expect that you would complain and moan to if, you were being unnecessary hit on all the time, or people were not taking your ideas seriously. What makes Peggy number 1 in my book, is because she took the adversity, grilled it and ate it, turning her adversity into fuel to push her past the boundaries and expectations that everyone put on her.
Fernando Baez I can see from your point of view as well. I like how we all see things differently and can intelligently discuss and probe some of our opinions to open the mind just a bit more!
Theforcer 1... I wouldn’t say way more. But she’s definitely deserving of this list. She and Faye hold different places in Dons developmental growth. Fate showed us what an equal partner Don could have romantically. Unlike Rachel, he trusted Fay enough to tell her everything from his past. They bonded and although she was bad with children, he was too. They both could have grown together. But he goes and marries the lighthearted albeit naive Megan. Anna, on the other hand, is everything maternal to Don. She sees, loves, respects and honors him the way he wished both moms he had did. So i wouldn’t say she’s more important, but they are just vastly different yet the same
The rankings here are all wrong; Sally #9? Jane #5, and on the list in general?! Take her off and replace her with either Midge or Bobbie. Rachel is too low on here as well. That's all I got, I swear.
Peggy is an extension of Don and by far the most important female character on the show (and to me the 2nd most important character in general). It would be a crime if she wasn't #1. However, Anna should have been on the list. Easily.
I never understood what Megan was doing on the show. Don and Happiness are the show's will-they-won't-they couple, and he can't be happy before the end of the show, so if the relationship only works while it's falling apart, what's really the point of having her be such a prominent cast member? And she capitalized on Faye Miller's hard work and more genuine relationship with Don. He actually seemed like a better person when he was with Faye.
Because Betty and Meghan are the same kind. They are trophy wives. It helps you understand what happened in his 1st marriage, before everything went downhill. Faye already knew what was wrong with him.
I think the best thing about Sally was how much the actress matured over the 7 seasons. She went from a one-note child actor to a very good actress who could hold her own with anybody she was trading lines with.
Honestly I believe that Anna Draper belonged on the list, not just honorable mention. She has more influence on Don's life than half of the first list of characters.
+cinnamongirl3121 She loves Dick ?

I thought Anna would be around 7...Her character evoked emotion from the first scene she appeared in.

She is the definition of surviving in a mans world
I agree wholeheartedly ❤❤❤
Sally should have made top 5. And where is Anna??
I think Anna should've been at least 6
She shouldn't even be on the list, she isn't a woman. She's a girl.
If someone hates on Betty, they are not really watching the show carefully enough, are unfamiliar with much of American life of the time period, or are perhaps just a-holes themselves?🤣😶
Though "innocent" Betty pulled a pretty big, but SUBTLE "asshole move" when she set up a lunch with her riding companions--that one gal and the young man at the riding stables.
Anna Draper should have been in the top 10
Ew...Jane? Really?
shes a total babe
Maybe because she is one of the few women Draper didn’t sleep with? All I can figure.
Ida Blankenship
yes, Ida should be on there for sure!
the queen of perversions
She was an astronaut...
Lewis Weir the Muhammad Ali was one of the funniest moments of the show
An astronaut
How is Trudy only #10 lol
ikr lmaoo
Disrespectful
Peggy. 100% agree. She is the real reason I watched every single episode. Such a magnificent portrayal of such a fascinating human being.
I fucking loved Dr. Faye Miller.
Same here, hate that Don picked that buck tooth frenchie over her
+PapaMagnum I totally disliked her, her character was made to be just in passing one in Dons love live, lack of real chemistry.. Even th. she was really sweet and all.
+Patriotpower
DR. Faye Miller was a woman, Megan was a child, and Don wasn't the man to deal with women.
I was really surprised when Don dumped her for Megan.
I couldn't stand her, way too confident and yet her Pond's beauty brainstorm session was an utter disaster, half the girls ran out in floods of tears
And holding up the false wedding ring saying, " this is a stop sign ......" What a tart!
One of my favourite scenes is Don dumping her over the phone.
My top 10
1- Peggy Olson
2- Joan Harris
3- Betty Francis Draper (my favorite!)
4- Megan Draper
5- Sally Draper
6- Trudy Campbell
7- Rachel Menken
8- Anna Draper
9- Sylvia Rosen
10- Dawn Chambers
If she is your favorite why is she third on your list? 🤔
Jane Sterling shouldnt be at the list.
She def should cause roger is most clever
Come on, Betty was cheated on and emotionally abused by her husband, repressed, and hit on by her Alzheimers-ridden father, and yes, she's all of those things, but why don't we ever talk about how terrible her life was?
The narrator was right though, Betty was childish and petty. And after she fired Carla a mean-spirited piece of crap.
And she also cheated on her good husband with her ex husband you know the one who cheated and emotionally abused her.
My Top 10
1. Peggy
2. Sally
3. Joan
4. Dr. Miller
5. Anna
6. Megan
7. Betty
8. Trudy
9. Sylvia
10. Jane
does anyone else believe sally (kiernan shipka) looks a bit like emma watson when she was younger?
Not really.
How didn't Anna Draper make the list? She should've been on there in place of Trudy.
She definitely should've been on the list, but Trudy deserves a place as well. I think Anna should've replaced either Sylvia, Rachel, Faye, or Jane.
Matthew Bowen She should be in the top 4, she was awesome and she was one of the only people on the show that really knew Don
I'd have her replace Jane
Here's my list
1. Christina Hendricks' right boob
2. Christina Hendricks' left boob
3. Christina Hendricks' face
4. Christina Hendricks' butt
5. Christina Hendricks' hair
6. Christina Hendricks' eyes
7. Christina Hendricks' hips
8. Christina Hendricks' voice
9. Christina Hendricks' legs
10. Peggy Olson
EvilPenguinofDoom hahahaahahaha
EvilPenguinofDoom You ruined it with Peggy, one of the ugliest women out there.
EvilPenguinofDoom true true
Lmao hell yeah
Loop p mm ko
Ranking Jane Sterling 5th best female character is like ranking Bob Benson 5th best male character.
I loved Rachel Menken so much
She was great on Sons of Anarchy!!!!
When Anna died I cried so hard. She should really be higher on the list.
Peggy is the best.
Ben Oto Fuck yeah! : D
Yep!
Freaking loved Trudy! Wished she had more airtime.
I love Peggy, Megan, and Betty. Joan is fine, I guess. Mona should have been on the list too. Trudy deserved to be at a higher position on the list.
I don't care what anyone says... I will forever be a die hard Betty Hofstadt Draper-Francis whatever fan for life
How is a non substance character like Jane Sterling listed and Anna Draper an honorable mention? Recount!!
Peggy's "Don't be a stranger" to Don. Damn, it gets me every time. Gonna miss this show.
Annie Edison > Trudy Campbell.
True that
Peggy as #1 was no surprise
This show is so amazing, gonna be in my heart for a long time why it's gonna end, so many memories from this show :').
The best woman is definitely betty draper and the best episode is obviously the suitcase love it.
Though Joan Harris is a close second and sexier I just love betty draper so much I think Peggy Olson will be number 1 though great performances by their actors
***** yeah Megan is so annoying
We share the same feelings Lord Commander
"However we're accounting for more than looks."
Wow, so per default the way to rate women is by looks. Wow.
Lythya Thank you
+Lythya if that was the case peggy wouldn't have been number one...but i do agree some women were there just because they looked good like that jane...how the hell is she influential
ohh sally! Oh come on! Peggy is pretty!
i never said she way ugly but she's not definition of sexy on the show Jessica Victoria Carrillo
MORE MAD MEN LISTS PLEASE!!!!!
I hate lists of “powerful women” where the women are “powerful” because of the effects they have on men or how much they help someone ELSEs development
Well you kinda have to base them off that when the show is about a man, their whole point in the show was to help Don develop his story, the one truly powerful girl that I believe wasn’t for Dons development was Trudy and to me, she’s the best girl in MadMen
forgot:
-Joyce Ramsay
-Miss Blankenship
-Anna Draper
-Stephanie Horton
-Francine Hanson
-Helen Bishop
-Mona Sterling
-Suzanne Farrell
Joan is a number 1 for me, she's a charismatic and loveable character
Oh yeah, and a pretty smart and tough gal too! Though I WOULD have to wonder what in the HELL a gal like her saw in PAUL KINSEY!!😳🤣🤣🤣
Loved how she "tore Paul a new one" when Paul confronted her about his girlfriend Sheila🤣🤣🤣
No Anna Draper in the top 10? She was the "only person that really knew him". One of the wholesome characters on the show.
I hated Jane. I don't know why she's so high on the list.
1) Joan Harris (Holloway) (Yes, I think at the end of it, she turned out to be even more interesting than Peggy)
2) Peggy Olson
3) Betty Draper
4) Sally Draper
5) Anna Draper
6) Rachel Menkin
7) Midge Daniels
8) Trudy Campbell
9) Margaret Sterling
10) Megan Draper
the only thing i hate about don is how he cheats
thats like the whole show lol
I must respectfully disagree with #2 & #1. Joan was truly the strongest & most independent lady on the show. Peggy was superb & her growth was incredible, but EVERY single thing that Joan wanted changed by the end of the show without her even having a clue she wasn't actually happy, at the beginning. Joan was truly Don's equal. Peggy was like his protege/daughter-type (Sally aside.) I truly love them both & think theu were both great, complex characters - but I do believe Joan was one of those legendary, infamous characters that will be remembered.
the way bettys storyline ends truly makes me cry....she was diagnosed with Terminal lung cancer and her last scene was seen of her smoking a cigarette and reading the paper, but what really got me was how she was ready to die and she told sally what she wanted and all that and i imagine bettys funeral as she’s laying there, elegant, poise and forever young and beautiful ♥️
i love Betty but agree with Peggy as number one
10. Megan Draper
9. Bobbie Barrett
8. Ida Blankenship
7. Trudy Campbell
6. Jane Sterling
5. Anna Draper
4. Betty Francis
3. Peggy Olson
2. Joan Harris
1. Sally Draper
And, because I couldn´t resist, here´s the men too:
10. Bertram Cooper
9. Bob Benson
8. Duck Phillips
7. Salvatore Romano
6. Stan Rizzo
5. Freddy Rumsen
4. Pete Campbell
3. Roger Sterling
2. Lane Pryce
1. Don Draper
I love Peggy! She's why I kept watching the show. I wish she got a spinoff...I'd definitely watch it.
anna draper shoulda been on that list and sally is waay too low.
came for alison brie didnt have to wait long im happy
greatest show ever. Period
Great list! I've been waiting for this one. Watch mojo you should do top ten mad men episodes after it ends
It was bittersweet to see Midge again later in the series since she became a heroin addict. 😕
Joan should be no.1 for definite she’s amazing
I don't know why they always put in characters we love to hate. I personally disliked all the mistress in the show, the leads and characters who never leave the show are the best ones. Sally and Trudy should have been higher and some of the honorable mentions should have been in the list.
10. Mona Sterling
9. Marie Calvet
8. Dawn Chambers
7. Anna Draper
6. Trudy Campbell
5. Sally Draper
4. Megan Calvet
3. Betty Francis
2. Joan Holloway
HM: Sylvia Rosen, Jane Sterling, Margaret Sterling, Francine, Rachel Menken, Midge Daniels
1. Peggy Olson
Christina Hendrick is the only reason I started watching Mad Men. My God that woman is PERFECT! Those CURVES!
I love the way you described each character
Not to spoil anything, but if any of you watched the midseason premiere of Mad Men, one woman on this list ended up impacting Don a lot more than he thought.
Agreed.
Gameflyer001 Can't wait to see what the cafe waitress's significance is in regards to the woman we're not mentioning.
Maybe he thought she resembled her.
I'm kind of stupid. Which one are you referring to?
Ana G Menken's Girl
Okay. I will not hate. But Joan HAS to be #1. Unapollogetically herself in a fun, glamourous and ... I just absolutely loved her.
Why isn't Sally higher and I'm confused as to why Stephanie didn't even get an honorable mention!!!
Sally should have been number 2. Peggy Olsen should remain number 1. She was so strong, adaptable and persistent.
You certainly make a good point. When looking at it from an objective point of view, she is a great character. I find her annoying though. :P
Fernando Baez I can see from your point of view as well. I like how we all see things differently and can intelligently discuss and probe some of our opinions to open the mind just a bit more!
Clarence Brown You the man.
Peggy is cool...
Joan Holloway - Most complete character in the show. Christina Hendricks deserved an Emmy. Can't wait to see her in Domino with Nikolaj Walder-Coster.
Anna Draper is way more important than Dr Faye
Theforcer 1... I wouldn’t say way more. But she’s definitely deserving of this list. She and Faye hold different places in Dons developmental growth. Fate showed us what an equal partner Don could have romantically. Unlike Rachel, he trusted Fay enough to tell her everything from his past. They bonded and although she was bad with children, he was too. They both could have grown together. But he goes and marries the lighthearted albeit naive Megan.
Anna, on the other hand, is everything maternal to Don. She sees, loves, respects and honors him the way he wished both moms he had did. So i wouldn’t say she’s more important, but they are just vastly different yet the same
I LOVE that show really. Great job everyone
Miss Blankenship ftw!
One of the best lists you've ever made!
The rankings here are all wrong; Sally #9? Jane #5, and on the list in general?!
Take her off and replace her with either Midge or Bobbie. Rachel is too low on here as well. That's all I got, I swear.
Love the Trudy bit - video totally leaves out that they get back together at the end.
Peggy is an extension of Don and by far the most important female character on the show (and to me the 2nd most important character in general). It would be a crime if she wasn't #1. However, Anna should have been on the list. Easily.
We all will have our own choices. Favorite for me was always Betty. Followed by Megan and Trudy.
Faye was too much of a woman for don he only marries immature girls like Betty and Megan.
Because Betty and Meghan are the same kind. They are trophy wives. It helps you understand what happened in his 1st marriage, before everything went downhill. Faye already knew what was wrong with him.
I've finished season 1 and i'm completely hooked.
Joan is my favorite character of the whole show.
I think the best thing about Sally was how much the actress matured over the 7 seasons. She went from a one-note child actor to a very good actress who could hold her own with anybody she was trading lines with.
