this is how you demo a synth.
i don't wanna hear in great detail about the electronic wizardry that makes the sound then not get to hear the actual sound :) (like most other synth demos)
just play about with the thing for 10 mins and let our ears decide.
sounds really good to me.
at the end of the day the SOUND is the only thing that matters!
Nice, probably the only proper demo out there right now. Most of the others are of people poking haphazardly at a launchpad while talking with someone at the same time.
I got an non talking video too of this synth
At last someone who doesn't twerk the knobs and treat them as on off buttons on their precious synths. Smooth gentle and proper handling is the way to make it sound great. And this gentleman knows how to actually play the keys as well. Great demo.
Great knob twiddling, sir. Only demo I've seen so far that really gives this interesting synth a good workout. Thanks.
Thanks!
He said no talking!
lol
Peak is very performing synth, almost limitless possibilities to do things. I have experience various VA synths. Peak will became to the vintage classic synth what every one wants after decade.
You got the right idea when its comes to demos.
sounds unbelievable.
Yees ! I have a PEAK and I confirm, it is a wonderful musical instrument. The reverb is to die for, and it's super fun to use. It's the perfect synth for deep, spacious sounds. The ergonomics are great, and in addition it is beautiful. In my opinion it just lacks "forming" type waveforms, like the Nord lead A1.
With the latest update you can add your own waveforms and make smooth transitions. Maybe that could be a way to emulate this behavioue?
@@Bonedo-Synthesizers Yes, why not ? I should try, thank you very much for your help.
This is so powerful.....Peak used by right hands is awesome...Thanks
This is a great demo, thanks.
I have been convinced. Thanks.
can't wait for the Volca Peak to come out
ewwwww it would be fully digital running off one cpu
Best demo I've seen for this yet. I so want one of these bad boys!
Me too..
$2000.00 on Amazon
@@robwelch1 Yup, ended up getting myself one as well
I bought the Deepmind 12 and now I have buyers remorse since it has very inconsistent volume levels (and sh*tty sounds and weak filter response) from preset to preset, some sounds are whisper soft and then the next one will be ear drum rattling loud. Very annoying! (btw, I had to exchange the 1st one I bought due to several dozen random presets were missing and the volume levels were way too low even after the manufacturer reset ) The inconsistent volume levels are still there though with the replacement, but unless I'm wearing headphones it's not so much an issue.
I've made a few decent sounds with it and I do like the feature rich special effects sections, sequencer and arps, but damn that Novation sounds 10 times better even with YT's crappy audio compression!
But, after hearing the Novation Peak I absolutely love the range of sounds it has. It sounds much richer and phatter than the true analogue DM12. I might eventually sell the DM12 and who knows, maybe I'll get the NP....
Great usable sounds! Too many demos showing gentle pads with excessive reverb, which sounds nice too but it doesn't show much of this synth's capacity. Well done.
100%
Just rewatched this while looking at alternatives to the upcoming Sequential Take 5. People say they sound worlds apart and I agree, Take 5 isn't bad but has something else going on with the tone, and sounds compressed and limited in the highs and lows to me in comparison. The Peak is sooooooooooooo warm but also gigantic sounding........those New Oxford Oscillators sheeeeeesh, and that multimode filter is resonant heaven. And the version 1.2 update doubled or tripled the versatility of the Peak it seems like. If I don't get a Deepmind 12 as a first poly synth then I will bite the bullet financially and get this instead.
The first patch my cat wistfully was looking to the sky for the mother ship. She thinks the street cleaner is it too and they will pick her up and take her back to planet kitty. It sounds like it would be good for Trance. Thanks for the demo.
Ha
Love that growl around 4:00
The Peak seems to have that 'in your face' sonic purity and immediacy that analog junkies are looking for. I don't care how they do it, if it sounds this good.
God I love this synth.
amazing!!
1:50
I love it so freaking much.
powerful machine..im saving
2:25 really great Underworld sounding patch.
This is the one demo I've heard where it's not sounding kind of dull. All the other demos seem like they've got the filter on all the time and you never hear the naked oscillators. The filters sound great, but I'm torn in the sense that there's not much "sparkle" to be had with this one. Did you find that to be true?
Can you make a demo of single oscillator showing all the wavetables sweep from start to end, with fully open filter.
Hi Don, we're an online magazine and did a review of the Peak. Unfortunately, we had to send the unit back after the review was done. You get more audio demos, including wavetables and oscillators by following this link: www.bonedo.de/artikel/einzelansicht/novation-peak-test/2.html
It looks/sounds like Novation has got a winner here. This synth has definitely got some nice sonic character, it's portable, good looking and the price is very reasonable for what you get. I've been saying that hybrids should be the way of the future for a long time, and from what I can hear, Novation has made a solid entry with the Peak. This thing does not have that cold, thin, digital sound of the VAs (to my ears). I might have to pick one of these up.
how does the king korg sound to your ears? People say it's not thin either
To my ears this destroys the King Korg. I am not sure what all the hype is with that thing. I mean its not a bad keyboard, but there is just something in the sound to my ears that falls flat.
+loren morgan & TheGreatUtopiaCat I never really got why the KingKorg needed to exist at all after Korg made the Z1 in 1997, it is such a badass 'pretend-analog' synth ! My Z1 provides all what I hear from this Novation Peak so I cannot justify buying one. I wish that this Novation & the Behringer Deepmind had Voltage Controlled oscillators instead of digital ones, and finally wipe out the Jupiter8, MemoryMoog & the Oberheim Matrix 12. Then I'd buy one for sure.
@@lorenmorgan1931 I love these kiddish statelents like : this DESTROYS that and shit ! Go back to your lego star wars, asshole !
Great synth
Good demo thank you
Thanks!
Superbe !
I'm thinking about this one or the Roland Jupiter xm i play synthwave and Acid Techno would this be good for synthwave music
please let me know what did you decide
@@waleedbanjar3050 i ended up just getting the Roland jd-xi it has both worlds sythwave acid techno psytrance I'm happy with it
I was excited to hear what this could do when it was announced. I'm in the market for a new synth after selling my Virus Ti Keyboard, everything I've heard so far from the sound demos of the Peak just sounds a little boring. I'm leaning towards the Elektron Analog Four/Keys as that has such a nice character to it's sound, the drawback is only 4 voices compared to Peaks 8.
Though, DSI Prophet Rev2 has caught my attention too. I wish I was a millionaire... :(
Of course, I can't properly judge until I play and hear this synth in the flesh! Good video though! :)
what midi keyboard are you using?
SOMEBODY PLEASE DO A NOVATION PEAK vs DEEPMIND 12 DEMO !
How do you like that keyboard you're using? I like how it has a short depth. Aftertouch would have been nice i guess
That bit at 2:30 and on was brutal!!! Crazy lfo stab!
Great demo! Awesome sounding synth.
Beauty
finally
Does this have the same sound engine as the bass station? I dont like the bassstation
Completely different approach. You can do so much more with Peak (although I do like the BS2)
I don’t mind a bit of tweaking but these days it’s less music and lots of tweeking, we need balance voices and electronics ....check out ELP, ! Rick wakeman, etc...
2:34 is my favorite part
6:28 Going by the most watched curve, folks (me included) love fat, warm patches like this. I am thinking of acquiring this baby. Great demo and thanks - Dave
Yep. It's on the way.
Sweet and handsome... Errm I mean phaat and beasty. Great demo. Now: This or a Aturia Matrixbrute or ... ...
first one , an actually bit of playing.
I feel in fucking heaven
I wish I couldve blown my stimmy money on this haha
2:59
Compare it to a DSI Pro 12. Sounds maybe not quite as brilliant. Maybe more like the Behringer DM? It seems to have a more spitty character than either of those. Then again, we are only hearing the first attempts out of that design.
GEO synths does a good Blade Runner demo with the Peak.
sounds like An1x jp8000 hybrid of some sort
Got one yesterday 4 years late lol.
What size keyboard is best for the peak?
I guess this depends on your needs. Almost everything should be fine except 25 keys, as the Peak wants to be played polyphonically. So If you travel a lot or don't have enough space in your studio, a 3 Octave keyboard should do the job, even for Pads. The only thing I'd recommend in this case is that the keyboard comes with an octave switch.
Thx
61 keys if you want to play a full song without using transpose changes.
6:00 \o/
How does this connect to a midi keyboard and DAW, please?
Why so many dislikes on this video?!
finally novation did something note worthy here. I want a 37 key version.. i would call it the Virus Cure.
yeah i'd be all over a 37 key version of this with a semi-weighted fatar keybed
Just buy a 61key controller that has fattar keybed.
Great demo man, thanks thanks thanks, for playing on real keys rather than annoying pads. Synth players are still real musicians, not DJ's!
Rick the one demoming the Peak first for Novation use drum pads because it takes up far less space and has easy access to loop functions and EQ and other things not on a standard midi keyboard.
it being an 8 voice I can't imagine why nobody is USING ALL 8 VOICES !!!!
maybe Unison? Maybe Release? who knows...
yeah, in fact its 8 voice only in one note)
Sounds like....
*TECHNO*
Really wonder if we’ll ever see a keyboard based Peak.
A year on and its happening haha!
SO AN ULTRANOVA WITH KNOBS ON , DISCUSS ??
I had an Ultranova and didn't really like it. The filters seemed thin to me. I have a BS2 and love because of it's awesome sound an ease of use. I'm selling my Minilogue to buy a Peak. I did like the wave tables on the Ultranova and these new Oxford Oscillators sound great with some of the same features I liked.
For now I never heard a single demo of the Peak that really grab my attention. I'm not interested to EDM a la DeadMaus or other contemporary techno shit. I'm talking about musical sounds, that will fit well in any mix, considering also to use it in a real band for a synth-rock, New wave kind of style.
What synth/s did you end up buying?
I would like to hear something more than just EDM lead stabs and berlin school noodling, this is a polysynth man, please show off some neat pads and strings as well!
Here you can find more audio demos, including pads: www.bonedo.de/artikel/einzelansicht/novation-peak-test/2.html
Would take this over a Moog or Behringer anytime, but it's still no Oberheim.
i think it also doesn't want to be one, wait for the next Behringer Clone ;)
And cheaper than an Ob
you think the ob6 is any good?
Nick from Sonicstate was drooling over the sound of the ob6 in his review so thats a good indication.
Some dudes pair the Peak with a OB-6 I'm pairing mine with a Korg Odyssey.
Sounds distorted, not for me.
Sounds digital, like a vst, and my Blofeld sounds much better!
Just kidding of course. Can't wait til i get mine xD GODDAMN IT
why kidding, it is pretty much digital..
it sounds good whatever - and wait 3 months till you here some crazy bad ass stuff.
mine too :D
Peak is analogue filters and premaps. The Waveforms although digital have 520 oversampling using a DAC per voice so it's indistinguishable from a DCO. How good or analogue it sounds is down to the preset making skill.
+lowngry LOL "digital" is meaningless cargo cult
bit like a mopho
Virus A still sounds better, 20 years ago....
I respectfully disagree but after all it's just a matter of taste
@@Bonedo-Synthesizers not even taking about the B, (I had a C), the TI.... Holy MF there are very few analog modeling synthesizer better.... even better than a analogue-hybrid?
@@unisonproductions123 Having owned a Virus B (which I found to sound the best), a snow and a TI, I think the Virus-Series makes for a great digital synthesizer. But as soon as you want analogue character they don't deliver. The sound is too smeared / undefined and they've got a very strange behaviour in the hi tones and hi mids. It's not aliasing but the audio
signal is kind of diffuse
I was also watching a Virus, but they all sound thin. I also read that there are many problems with it and 0 support
The novation is also more interesting for dance and house, which is what I'm looking for.
@@antoniocalimero1173 listen 7:08 min in, not sure the Novation is that phat! ruclips.net/video/yiUsIRYcMtc/видео.html
....only 8 voices polyphony depending on voices used? So there could be even less? Idk yo...
nope, 8 voices always
what's with the excessive veins on the hands
He's worked hard for a living or works out.
its ok, nord lead 4 kicks its ass in terms of bang for the buck though IMHO.
2 vs 3 osc. way more modulations options on Peak. The other problem is that Nord is much more expensive in the US than in europe.
Nord has 4 way multi timbral splits 24 voices, easy mod assignment and just sounds better. Game over baby, GAME OVER :)
Had one, returned it. The filters are getting better but not enough for the price. But yeah, it is a workhorse with 24 voices. I also don't understand why they dropped the led rings from NL3 (I loved that interface). Sad, and no aftertouch on a 1,500 USD kb, that is horrible.
Nord Lead is fully digital, Novation has analog filter and oscillators without aliasing (thanks to FPGA). GAME OVER :)
Have you ever heard a nord lead 4 in person? Do you have "golden ears"? Because Im doubting it if you think you can tell a nord lead 4 is digital blindfolded.
why the fuss about this ? The SN2 sounds better and thats about 17 years old
So that haves 15 waveforms with 520 oversampling and analogue preamps and filters?
what a joke, the worst synth in the last 20 years, sounds worse than rob papen vsts
It uses real analogue filters and more oversampling on the waveforms than any VST so it can't be must be you just don't like the type of presets being demoed.
