I'm learning so much about military training from these movies. For example, if an unknown "what the hell is that" kind of object starts making threatening sounds and moves, stand as close to it as possible until you get shot at to verify that it's in fact hostile.
immediately pull you all the way out of immersion and punch you in the face with "this is a movie". Why can't they hire some actual veterans to help directing military movies?

My first thought was Predator ripoff, too. This movie has a pretty generic villain, unlike Predator. Script must have been written on a napkin.
There have been several movies about troops on an "island" fighting a big bad. This includes the King Kong franchise, the Predator franchise and one where they are testing robotic military equipment.
