The O.C. best music moment #1 - "Forever Young" breakup

- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- This is from S03E16 of The O.C. in an episode entitled The Road Warrior. Here, Ryan has the urge to get out of his depressing rut in Newport, and hits the road with a new girl Sadie. He has a good time getting into some fisticuffs and family drama, and thinks about Marissa. At the end of the day as they drive back, Ryan gives Marissa a call to the tunes of their song, Youth Group's "Forever Young."

There's nothing like closing your flip phone/ placing the phone back it's cradle.... touchscreens don't have the same feeling of finality. It's weird, but I miss it.
So true and i just realized that right now 😂
And how durable those phones are, drop me a million times, still work. Dropped my 106$ touch screen yesterday chips and cracks screen
This comment won’t get old 😅
Nothing like riding your bmw doing it.
Mischa Barton ! great actor, I believe she showed even deeper emotion than would have any other hurt girl in the real world. Bravo Marissa, this remains my best music moment in the O.C., I appreciate your choice..
this song defined the show for me. Although I was never a big fan of marissa, this was one of the most memorable and saddest moments in the story. I think I cried when I saw this on tv, but I'm glad you posted it so I can remember it next time I listen to the song!
Best scene ever!!!! 💋😍😘
even "running up that hill" was excellent. But I do prefer this one coz' of the amazing sad scene Marissa brilliantly managed to perform, whereas in the other, Ryan didn't let his feelings be expressed through his face, he never does (except when marissa....)
agreed. its the most insanely cutest part in their whole relationship. actually... it ties for first with the spiderman kiss :P
ok that's cool
This show had the most epic music every song matched every scene so perfectly. So sad they killed the show when they killed Marissa they said her character was the weak link but honestly we could feel the emotions of Ryan and Marissa. Seth and Summer were the lines Ryan and Marissa were the soul. And musical moments like these just make their emotions epic when this aired I remember crying
***** LOL that is hilarious I am absolutely obsessed with Veronica Mars too I love the sarcasm the snarkiness and of course the music as well. Ironically a lot of music on my iPod is from those three tv shows
OC was so deep. Many episodes ending with happy, wonderful moments. Only to be washed away in the next few episodes. I think it's a metaphor of life: there's no lasting happiness, but all we have are moments. Perfect moments, but they never last. If you think of life like that, maybe when those rare perfect moments come your way, you can appreciate them to the fullest. I would have loved to see a happy ending for the show, with Marissa and Ryan being together - but the way it went down was imperfect and painful, like life. No fairytale ending. But some of the moments they had, they were perfect and worth living for. So it was sad and beautiful at the same time.
Very true. In a way I think that the "imperfect" ending is the reason for the show still strongly remaining in my head. I've watched many shows but never have I felt so much for the characters like in The OC, and still continue to feel after all these years.
cannsmith I love you :´-(
What was even more intense was the "Hide and seek" scene at the end of season two. I was so shocked and emotional...
Joni S. Perfectly said..seriously. I just read that three times and at the end it felt like there is something in my eye. In both of them.
the beginning of the end
+Davin Alaniz SO true!!!
Davin Alaniz true af
It ended at the first season finale , from then it was cringe with some great moments ,
I think it was the beginning of the end when Caleb died..
The beginning of the end was Trey coming back in season 2 since that caused a sequence of events that led to Marissa’s death. In fact, you could argue Ryan coming to Newport was the beginning of the end for Marissa. Had Ryan never come to Newport, Trey never would have assaulted Marissa which led to the fight and shooting, expulsion, meeting Johnny who drove a wedge between them, then Volchok who ultimately was responsible for her death
The worst part is that that was their song
Damn, I could actually feel Marissa’s pain during this scene, plus the background music really makes it 10x emotional.
Siiii 😢 pobre marissa odie esa parte
Sometimes, it's just not meant to be, no matter how hard you may think you want it or even if you keep trying
Agreed with you 100%
One thing the writers of this show absolutely loved to do was torture Marissa !
And never develop her as a character. Threw her out like trash when they thought her character served no purpose anymore. Unbelievably shit writing. Killed the show cause of that decision. Hope they’re happy.
I miss how sturdy those phones were, and the satisfaction you got from hanging up on someone by closing the lid.
Haha
Marissa crying always gets me :'(
Not to be heartless, but, not me. I think she got her ego bruised more than anything. She and Ryan were off and on and regardless him trying to spare her feelings or just over it all- she knew she made dumb choices and it bit her in the butt. Again. Sorry. Just how I see it.
Where is "Fix You" by Coldplay when Caleb dies?? That moment didn't even make it to the top 10 :( And "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap should have at LEAST been in the top 3!!! How can you not get goosebumps when you hear *BANG* Mmm whatcha sayyyy???
It gave me goosebumps just you talking about the scene where Marissa shoots Trey! One of the best scenes in all of the OC :p
they're not ranked in order :)
And when trey leaves town? it isn't even in the top 50
I really liked Ryan but breaking up with your girlfriend on the phone is mean.
He was a kid in his first official relationship and he was about to hook up with the other girl. Better to do it over the phone than cheat
He was a dick with Marissa most of the time 😒😔
Are yall stupid..?? Everytime they were together she would fuck him over with a new guy ..
This and One Tree Hill was the shit back in the early 2000's. I miss having teen shows like them!!!
so let me get this straight.... all johnny had to do if he wanted a shot with marrissa is introduce his cousin to ryan?
abprepboy33 lol yep
after all they've been through, their breaking up through a phone call..they could've done better, i guess.
i still cant accept the way they broke up, like, by the phone, seriously????
ever time i hear that ringtone I automatically think of The OC
I've never been attached to a tv couple like I am to Marissa and Ryan
Me too
killing her character off is the worst decision ever
Marissa Actress wanted to do movies instead of the show that is why her character got killed off. Dumbass
+kamikazechaos720 They could have just written her out not kill the character tho. She was suppose to go live with her dad why not just go with that narrative.
It was the actress that wanted her dead. Given how her career died too...that was stupid.
They would've just written her out, but the director didn't want for her to just be able come back whenever, they had to cut her off.
For sure why did she have to die. There is no oc without her
ever since it came out in the oc, this song became my personal song.its been years and still, everything in this episode reflects me.
the song is amazing...this song has been with me through lots of depressing times..
I like to hear it when I go to the beach
Last time they broke up :(
This is the worst moment in the whole series.
Honestly, I hated the closure Ryan and Marissa's relationship got. By watching season 4, I think it was pretty clear that Ryan loved Marissa to death.
But, season 3 left me wondering whether Marissa still loved Ryan by the time of her death.
In season 1, they looked like they were meant for each other. Season 3 ruined that.
Brandon Sharpe yeah Ryan was defs more in love with Marissa than she was with him
I think from this scene alone you could tell she was still in love with Ryan... she just didn’t know what to say or do to fix it. Which is why she was crying and he seemed okay
@@MrYeab0iiii He’s the worse
I think the bad writing and backstage problems contributed to her character being so stupid.
Humoring it anyway, Marissa and Ryan were destined for a breakup because of the natural progression of their life. Ryan's life started off bad and got better so he was more grounded and used to tough times. He just needed a little guidance. Marissa's life on the other hand, started off great and went straight to the toilet and because she always had it good, she never had to learn how to deal with tough times. She also had no guidance because her relationship with her mom sucked and her dad couldn't get his shit together. So, she made bad choices related to alcohol, drugs, a lack of boundaries, and terrible guys..and the results continued to lead her further down that hole she was digging for herself., For her to turn it around, she would have needed to go her own way and figure things out and her relationship with Ryan would have just held that journey back and prevented her from developing. Unfortunately, she died tragically before she could.
Season 1 was peak O.C. writer ruined it when they decided to make this season depressing with no real satisfaction for Marissa’s or Ryan’s character. No closure, no development no nothing. Just problem after problem. This is where O.C. started to die as a series.
I cried.
2024 and we still here!
This reminds me.... I really hate Sadie ¬¬
+ Abprepboy33 true
I hate sadie and teressa , the relation not was the same.
I hate Ryan more 🤬
I MISS MARISSA😢😢😢😢
no, the flashback paint the silence is number one, best moment ever. so many feels.
Totally agree, it's the most deep and real scene.
This will forever be ‘their song’
Watching this show again, takes me to happy/sad place. At the time I was dating a girl and we would watch the shows together. That's actually how we first met, I remember saying to her when I first met her was "hey we should hang out sometime smoke and watch the OC together". After that we dated for several months. Long story short she ended up being a crazy psychopath , but in a weird way when I watch these episodes it makes me sad. Good show..
Worst fucking break up ever. Makes me so angry til this day.
you cant blame marissa. first she shot someone, ryan kinda implied it was her fault when she confronted him in her room which btw wasnt meant by ryan that way, then johnny died, her mum was broke, volchok screwed her up, ryan is with the girl from his past, the dean hated her, her dad left her and did not marry her mum which gave marissa hope to have her family complete again...with those shit going on? who's emotion wouldn't be too cloudy???
Marissa is the best 💔
Stop that shit .. everytime her and ryan dated she shitted on him with a new guy she barely even knew
everytime i remember the o.c. i get sad.i've never felt like this about a tv show.not even about my favourites
Mischa Barton was an amazing actress!!
omg! i almost cried...poor Marissa. I hate Sadie...She was flirting with him even that she knows that he was with Marissa at the same time...grrr It looks that Ryan was with Sadie ,cause he wanted to punish Marissa for her little crush in Johnny...ehhhh
Yeah he kind of did and Marissa’s sister push all of this !!
i kind of want to punch sadie in this scene.
ryan and marissa =
She was waiting outside for Ryan to call Marissa 😠
Poor Marissa she always put up a front even to Ryan but in secret she was distraught as she loved him.
Wish he ended up with Sadie the vampire last name Cullen irony of cohen
you guys are right!he was punching her for her tiny crush on johnny!then what do you call this?i mean look at them befor R/M break up,and it is a stupied break up,he is so coward, the phone!the phone ryan?OMG you are really...i don't know, besides, ryan and sadie...OMG THEY SUCK!I MEAN LIKE EVERYBODY IS WRITING HERE!SHE WAS FLIRTING WITH HIM EVEN THOUGH SHE KNEW THAT HE HAS A GIRLFRIEND.WHO IS MARISSA.I THOUGHT SHE WAS MARISSA'S FRIEND,A FRIEND does that
i know its not the most popular opinion but i quite liked season 4. I know it wasn't quite as dramatic as the previous seasons and thats kind of what the oc is about (done so well i might add haha) but it was nice, net the first 3 episodes seeing a relatively angst free ryan. Ryan and Taylor were nice together, normal. Great wrap up to an amazing show!
Happy for Ryan to move on without Marissa. Because the last time Rayn and Marissa met at her trailer, she says to Rayn ' You're glad Johnny's gone aren't you? ' and Ryan replied to Marissa ' I'm not going to answer that '.
this season was so fucking sad
i hope you know this is only fake. i live in the oc and shit like this never happens. this is all syndicated.
this scene is awesome! defintly number one on my list, the song sets mood.
Figuratively speaking they were already broken up way before this. Atleast on Ryan’s part because there’s no way he would just hook up and forget about it right after. But you never know we how shitty the writing was at this point.
I love this pair. They were never given a shot by the writers. Almost doomed to fail. They deserved better. Marissa deserved better.
This scene gets me all the time😭
Their breakup (by phone) was just like S3 in general - lackluster.
The first season (minus Oliver) still holds up as some of the best TV from that era. Even the second season was decent to a lesser extent. But S3 was just AWFUL in every aspect. What made it even worse was that Marissa was the main focus of the season and Mischa Barton looked bored AF in every scene. You could tell she hated being there.
I would be too if I had to play a character that badly written and used as punching bag for chaotic plots. Season 1 O.C. is untouchable compared to the rest due to that fact. The writers got to addicted to the Oliver Syndrome which was by far the worst aspect of season 1. They paid the price when the ratings plummeted.
this song is addictive and so beautiful, i think its hard to make a choice
the best music moment in the o.c. is when we can listen "forever young" for the first time, when marissa and rayan decide their song and dance on it! not in this episode!
its a bit 12 years old to brake up over a cellphone
the other forever young momeent is better !
Agree !!!
Totally right!!A break-up at phone??
What it is??Come on!I loved them :(
The scene is sooo sad!Poor Marissa!
i love your list but you need to make some space for 'Hide and Seek' by Imogen Heap, when Trey gets shot. Also 'The Sea and the Rhythm' by Iron and Wine, in the season 1 finale when Ryan tells the gang he's leaving. And finally, Joseph Arthur's 'Honey and the Moon' in the pilot, when Sandy drives Ryan away and he sees Marissa through the window :D
I like how you think 👍🏼❤️
Sadie nunca le importo ryan como tampoco Marisa, creo que ella se encapricho y cuando vio que le iba cagar el futuro a ryan lo dejo. La verdad que esa mina destruyo una relacion para nada.
the goodbye girl - the part where anna leaves and seth goes after her! that's the best by far!
Saco!
guys, I don't think this is a countdown...I think it's just a list...
haha! She just came out of nowhere and suddenly Ryan liked her...lol
You're totally right!
He was so stupid!!Poor Marissa..after
Jhonny's death! :(
Why do I think about this scene so often
i tottaly agree,u are so cool hun'!!!!you go girl!!1
Hall Mary Thomas Dorothy Thomas Susan
wrong. music moment #1 is when seth gets stoned and listens to Black Flag.
Ryan e marisss forever
I LOVE you for makin these "best music moment" videos!! Thank you!
Ugh this was so sad.
its not numbered according to how good the song is. it was just the 1st song uploaded.
Poor Marissa :'(
Season 3 had some great moments (like this one) but overall it was a letdown.
Marissa's character was always blind to dudes liking her Oliver johnny trey etc that was the letdown. The writting made her clueless
i cant believe that this is number one. oc had so much better (!) music moments. this moment is lame, come on!!!
wowow gracias
por poner los mejores
momentos wooww
thanks
I get so sad with the breakup, a void in the stomach because they were hurting, but also, i did not believe how long it took to happen. 🥺
I know Marissa chose Ryan, but lets be honest, she was somehow in love with Johnny too and everyone knew, Ryan did for sure and even then, he tried to be there for her (but IMO Marissa chose every person instead of Ryan in several ocasions and its tiresome cause she never made up her mind).
Then Johnny (which is boring as hell) dies and Sadie comes along and people wondered why Ryan moved on that quickly? Oh boy, he did after seeing that was no use to be in a relationship where the other person apparently did not want it to be anymore...
Flip phones! Lol what a time
Yeah, this isn't even top 10 for me. Season 3 was so bad I stopped watching and forgot about the show until a few years later when I watched the whole thing again after it ended. Number 1 should be Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah during the Season 1 finale. Hands down.
extraño ver esta serie sadie wapicimaaaaaaa
Imogen Heap covered Hallelujah in the third season finale. The song's been covered a lot.
never forget this moment
I remember watching this scene and always thinking it was a mutual split up. But seeing it again after 15 years i now realize, its more like Ryan broke up with Marissa.
Disagree. He may have verbally ended it but she was checked out for a while. She was never honest with herself about her feelings for Johnny. Was Ryan supposed to continue dealing with that?
WHATS YOUR NAME?
WHATEVER YOU WANT IT TO BE....
"Who are you?" "Whatever...."
Best soundtrack ever! Do you think Blake lively copied Mischa in acting? I can’t help but think she did the similarities of Marissa and Serena I know the OC and GG are written by the same guy that’s why I say this
they are couple goals
forever young is by alphaville
Audrey T 11 years later
me too! after she died, i wanted theresa to end up with him or atleast for her son to be his.. too bad..
i did like taylor though.. lol
My favorite scene, it made me so sad :( Thank u!
Wistful song that suits the scene. Hmmmm ... back then I was young.
sorry but I don't agree with your 1rst place music moment!
I loved all your "decisions", don't get me wrong, but, if you ask me, the first place should go to S01E02 Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah" where Ryan says to Marissa that they can't be together because they are from two different worlds.
Even so, I loved it! Great idea. The list, I mean xD
It wasn't a poor comment - he explained his reasoning well. I don't agree with the choice either, mainly because I don't love the song and think that there's more deserving moments, but it was a fine comment and it's a fine choice in the uploaders eyes.
id go for "dice" or champaigne supernova this can be 4 but anyhoo its just the same series tried watching one tree hill cant be compared to this
I just came across it looking at other music videos. Hahahaha, you're a die hard fan arent you? So sad, so sad. You may get over the fact that it is dead? Or maybe not? But just know this: I'll pray for you hahahahahaha, it'll rest in peace armen. Ya dig? lmfao.
Don't know if it's fit for #1, but I remember after I saw this, the song was stuck in my head for quite a while, and I do still associate the song with this scene.
Where is the "Hello Sunshine" cue in the list? That's pretty messed up that it's not present. Tsk Tsk.
wait is this when they breakup and never get together through all da episodes nd seasons...so like they never got together again even in the nxt seasons?/
Where's something pretty by patrick park when summer and seth kiss on the table at valentine's day..not even in the top 47??! that's like my #3
i LOVE this song! and yea i really love this moment too. Wen Volchok comes to the beach at the end and marissa is crying nd they just look @ each other nd dont say anything, thn look out at the water. idk i just thought tht was really cute, i kno he's suppose to be the bad ass but i love him. Hes a total babe. But yea i really love this song. it was sly how ths was R/M's song, nd then its the same song wen they break up.
If you read what the owner of "BestoftheOC" has written he/she says that the numbers don't have anything to do with their rank... it's just the order of putting them up
How I remember this song was played season 1 (or 2, cant remember) where they danced. Well, it's on DVD so it can be possible they switched that :)
