Oh yes! The bright shiny objects of new releases always take precedence over those dusty books already on my shelf. Glad you are safe!!

I'm glad you liked Horrorstor! I really enjoyed it too, it was sillier but still so creepy.

I have to say, the concept of Horrostör and the design of the book (how it looks like an actual Ikea catalogue) is really well thought of. It looks very unique.
I'm 2/3 in reading Zero Stars, Do Not Recommend and I am really enjoying this book so far. I'm hoping to finish it today if time allows. The humour is reminding me of Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, and I noticed that there's an actual blurb from Benjamin Stevenson on the book so I guess I'm not the only one that saw a parallel there. This is the book I had brought with me on vacation and as I suspected, I barely had time to read - only got through 50 pages on the flight. My eyes were too itchy from getting up at 3 a.m. to concentrate on reading. 😵
(Side note: I'm glad to hear you are safe. The hurricane hit Florida a couple of days after we left to get back home, so we got lucky...)

I love humor in books which makes me wonder if I would like Zero Stars, Do Not Recommend 👀 I’m so glad you made it home before! Yeah when I made this video I hadn’t seen most of the damage we went out to the store yesterday and I’m not sure if you’re in the discord but I posted a video our local park and pickleball courts are under 12 feet of water or more. The bathrooms and shelter almost completely under water. Thankfully we live about 1-2 miles from this but the river rose! Nature is powerful.

I share the same opinion on The Boys in the Valley. 🙃 I read Horrostör 4 years ago, I believe. It was my 1st time reading a book by Grady Hendrix and it didn't work for me that much. I thought it was "too funny" for my taste in horror. But since then I loved everything single book by this author (including Final Girl Support Group haha I've already read it twice! I can totally see that book as a movie starred by Jamie Lee Curtis. ❤). I think I should consider rereading Horrorstör 🤔 As for the Book of Accidents...I really didn't like it. The only reason why I didn't DNF it was because I read that book in 2021, and back then I would strongly and stubbornly refuse to not finish a book. If I were to read it today...nope. DNF it at 10%. 😅

We must share very similar opinions on books and reading. Okay I need to reread Final Girl Support Group, I think I was in a ⭐️ mood ⭐️ when I was reading that last time. You saying Jamie Lee Curtis I could totally see that based on the little bit I did read of it. And I will own, humor is one of my favorite things in books which totally accounts for that difference with Horrorstor! Have you read Black River Orchard? I’m not sure if you would like it but that’s my favorite Chuck Wendig!

@@ryreads For mystery and thrillers we often share the same opinions, yes. ☺️
I haven't read Black River Orchard mainly because I didn't care for this author's previous book. Also, he writes veeeery long horror books. 😪 I usually do not like long horror books (this past week I DNFed the new CJ Leede book - I was listening to the audiobook as an ALC and it is over 14 hours long 😪😪. DNFed it after the first hour haha). That horror book Imaginary Friend? Same thing. Waaaaaaay too long for my taste.
I only like long books when it is historical or literary fiction.

Thank you for your videos, I really enjoy all of them. I never read or watched horror but I find myself getting drawn to it more and more. I can handle only very mild horror though. I’ve started with gothic atmospheric reads from ST Gibson and Ava Reid, Staring House goes in there too, currently I’m reading Drowning Tide - they all fall under the same category from me. Which light horror book would be the easiest one to make a jump into more horror-y ones? I like supernatural twists (no gore), but possessions and ghostly creatures creeping in a dark house scare the $hit out of me and I’m scared to sleep… I’m planning to read Dead Eleven as my first scary book… and I made a list for myself from your “light horror” video. Which Chuck Wendig book will be the least scary?

All really good points and questions. I think you’re going to find gore in almost all horror. Dead Eleven is a great book I can’t remember how much gore is in it. I would say the least scary Chuck Wendig would be Black River Orchard but it’s been a bit since I’ve read it so I can’t quite remember the level of gore and scare. I think it’s really neat that you’re finding your place in a new genre :)

hi zach, do you accept digital ARCs by chance? I have an upcoming horror novel I'd love the opportunity to send your way if so. it involves feminine rage, generational trauma & queer identity told from the perspective of a haunted house
