I am definitely interested, however, I don't want it to become too grounded.. It is after all about a man with a "magic" power ring which allows him to construct things with his mind.. It was a lot easier to go the "grounded" route with Penguin as he has no super-powers and is just another mob boss..
I'm super excited for the Lanterns series. What matters most is the story and how the characters are written. If those two things are taken care of, then I hope we get some great space battles.
Yea, my biggest concern is Lindelof. I know Tom King has done some pretty terrible stuff with Green Lantern, but I'm hoping he'll restrain himself for this new canon. But the only Lindelof shows I've seen seemed like total con jobs. The Leftovers and Lost felt like someone was just making it up as they went. He tried to tie it all together with lost, realized that wasn't possible when you had just been making it all up as you went along, so he didn't even try for the Leftovers. That said, I haven't seen his take on the Watchmen, and Mundy is going to be the showrunner, so he may be able to keep everyone's worst impulses in check.
My guy John Stewart is finally getting his due!!!! I always liked post crisis continuity where Hal Jordan and Barry Allen where like 10 to 15 years older than Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent, and there respective successors Kyle Raynor and Wally West where about 10 to 15 years younger than Bruce and Clark. This also would allow John Stewart to be the same age as Clark and Bruce. If Geoff Johns hadn't retconned Hal Jordan I always imagined we could have had a John Stewart renaissance instead in the early 2000s with Joe Kelly or ideally Dwayne McDuffie writing it and reintroducing John Stewart. Maybe give John Stewart a mask like they did in the JLU episode "Kids Stuff" and focus more on his architecture career or give him a new one in like IT or something interesting. I think there's still time to give John Stewart the treatment Geoff Johns gave to Hal, you just need the right writer/creative team.
I love John Stewart because I love it when the person wearing the ring has something about them that would make them great at constructs. Like being an architect for John, or Kyle being an artist. I’m strapped in for the ride, ready to see where it goes!
Yeah man me too, hopefully this show gets DC inspired to hire someone who loves John and wants to really reinvent him and add to his personality and world the same way Dwayne McDuffie did
The angle they're taking sounds super intriguing, especially if they're going where i think they might be with the overarching story. People need to relax about it being described as "grounded." They're talking about tone, emotion, and pathos. It's still introducing the GL Corps and all the concepts that go along with that.
Before anyone panics and bashes James Gunn grounded doesn't automatically mean realistic. Rogue One is considered a grounded film. Let the writers do their thing.
I’m cautiously optimistic. I can’t wait to see Hal and John together. I’m just hoping they don’t treat Hal the way the recent animated movie did. I do love the True Detective approach though.
If you’re talking about Beware my Power, I don’t think they can do that with this setup. At least not within the show itself. Maybe they’ll set it up for a future season or movie. Hopefully they just ignore that particular story arc in the DCU.
@ not the exact arc but Hal being the villain the whole time or the actual murderer. I heard there will be time jumps, so I do hope we get some great Hal moments.
Honestly the more i hear about the shows development the less i get excited😂. The words grounded and real associated with the GL mythos sounds sarcreligous and thats no direspect or any offence to the fans who are drawn to that style but yeah an Older Hal doesnt give me any hope that he'll last long and thats nothing against Chandler as hes a great actor and Pierre is a brilliant casting and the multiple Original Characters makes me wary. Its actually pretty odd that Geoff Jones,Peter Tomasi or even Jeremy Adams arent consultant's
To me, it depends on what they mean by grounded. If they mean it's not going to be silly or just random action, but that it's actually going to be grounded in what these characters would really be like if they had these powers, I actually prefer that. It's the difference between Batman Begins or The Batman vs. Batman & Robin or the old Batman TV show. If they mean grounded like The Penguin, where no one has powers and it doesn't feel like a comic book show at all, then I'm not as excited about that. Even The Batman and Batman Begins have too much realism to really work with Green Lantern, but surely James Gunn knows that. 🤞
That's just so stupid. This show will be too expensive to film as based on its comic origin. Change it too much, and it's not a Green Lantern show. I'm over DC and HBO with all of their dialog, too dark to see shows. They all stand around talking about what is going to happen, and then a little stupid nonsensical something happens that makes no sense. Green Lantern is a galactic story. One Lantern per parsec. How in the world there are 3 human Lantern all on the same planet, I don't know. Frankly, doesn't think Gunn was all that great. His brother is for the real wit in that family.
@@vincentbell3775 there have been multiple green lanterns on earth in the comics, and it especially makes sense in the context of a veteran (Hal) working with a rookie (John). I don’t think it’s going to be as much into realism as The Penguin cause that’s Reeves. They haven’t done anything with Gunn’s version of the DCU yet so I’m going to give him a chance. But I’m somewhat with you as far as not being quite as optimistic as others. He doesn’t seem like the best choice for DC, but I hope he proves me wrong.

That's what's got me thinking it can't be THAT grounded. 1. You've got the rings. 2. You've got the tie-in to the larger universe. I'm optimistic.

@WhatsUpWOLF mostly pro, I love his 12 issue minis, not a fan of his Batman run

A dark Green Lantern show is really up my alley.
Same here. I also like to see superheroes in more realistic settings. As long as they’re still superheroes.

I hope it is great, but we don’t know. If you use your ring to save planets, spending time on a murder detective story might not make sense
It must lead to something bigger. Looking forward to finding out what
