- This video shows how to replace the battery in an Ei144 heat alarm. Please note that we are not the manufacturers but we felt that a video would help, as a lot of people find it difficult to exchange the battery in this heat alarm. If you want to buy a replacement head for the Ei144 heat alarm, you can do so at www.safelincs....
Thank you, 11 year old video. Saved my sanity at 2.30am 👍
Thanks. Managed to fix the beep with this instruction at 5 am.
The fact that I had to look up a video on RUclips to see how to take the battery out explains how it is not user friendly.
NO it just means you never read your manual when you bought it.
@@spaceiswater6539 what if you didn't buy it
@@TBFxeno Then the manufactures website is your next best best option to see if you can download the manual as a pdf file.
Can you use a different tool
Thank you for the video which is really helpful. However, this unit is not user friendly. I really struggled to get the cover off and when it eventually came off it virtually flew across the room. Now I'm struggling to get the cover back on! Also, it shouldn't need a special tool to open the cover.
You need to makes this unit much easier for the consumer to access to change the battery.
Thanks to this video I discovered my tenants had switched all the smoke alarms off at the fuse box .
The cover won’t slide back on no matter what is do it won’t budge back into place. Have followed the correct direction to slide and lined up arrow.
This company is just so helpful and friendly too - I phoned the 0800 number for some advice re my smoke alarm bleeping and the lady that answered the phone was amazing (all resolved now) - thank you!!
I have no idea why the unit itself says pull and not slide! Thanks for your help
Are they set to start beeping only at night time?
As informative as this video is, the product I’d say isn’t that user friendly. I had several attempts at poking my flat head screwdriver in and the cover wouldn’t budge. Then I applied what I felt was slightly too much force and the unit flung across the room and onto a hard floor.
I’ve replaced the battery and tested it and the alarms went off loud, and there are no more beeping. Hopefully that’s been enough to solve it. Cheers for the video though, shame you need a tool to open it however.
Does the easy tool come with the heat alarm.
Stupid thing keeps beeping, half deaf and tired as hell i took a sledge hammer to the f$&king thing. No more beeping.
Alternative title how to replace a battery in a pig
I've followed the steps, manage to change the battery but it's still chirping. What else can I do?
0:04 Smoke alarm? It's a heat alarm
Hi, you are of course correct. This is indeed a heat alarm. Apologies for the confusion. This will be changed at our next review,
@@Safelincs When will there be another alarm replacement-y thingy video like the old ones? If it’s a heat alarm, then call it a heat alarm. If smoke alarm, then smoke alarm.
This videos should have said " insert screw driver and press it up the lip" only inserting the screw driver won't release the part and makes it very difficult to take it out. pretty bad system!
why do you have to swtich the power off?? on something powered by batteries?
Hi John, the batteries are only back-up to the mains power supply of the smoke alarm. The power needs to be switched off to ensure that nobody can touch the otherwise live contacts in the alarm (even though they are well covered)
Safelincs Ltd. That's annoying.
The method of removing the cover is almost certainly going to result in damage to the internal plastic clip - making future removals almost impossible. This is exactly what I discovered and I was unable to remove cover for battery replacement . I've contacted local electrician to replace the unit. Very poor design.
What a piece of shit that opening system is!
0:04 ITZ A HEAT ALARM
My alarm looks exactly like this but has no place to put the screwdriver! It really annoying and the worst thing is that we don't even know what company made it because the bit in the middle has gone! And now it's going off every 5 minutes for no reason! It's so annoying! 😡😡
@Mahdi RANA it's a smoke alarm not a heat alarm
Edit: this video's alarm has the same battery removal function as my smoke alarm
It is now kil
I followed the instructions and it is impossible to open it. Also it has a sticker that will need battery replacement in May 2025! Only 3 years out
Why didn't you test it
This is good and all but it’s a heat alarm, not a smoke alarm!
Safelinics can you tell me how we stop beeping of the fire alarm
Also there is a blue light what does this mean
The blue light indicates that you have a) a wireless base and b) that it is not being re-charged correctly. Please see instruction of how to resolve this

How do we know the battery needs replacing ? mine keeps beeping like an annoying budgie every 35 seconds, and it says battery not replaceable. it has a date on there for 2025, and it's now 2018
Hi, if the battery cannot be replaced it is not an Ei144. Maybe an Ei164? Please check that you actually have mains power supply to the alarm, otherwise it will indeed beep. Another common cause for nuisance alarms in this situation is a CO alarm with low batteries somewhere in a drawer. It is almost impossible to find out where a beep really comes from. Harry
@@Safelincs yea it's a heat alarm. probably be the model no. you mentioned. it's definitely the beep coming from the alarm . so not impossible. if I stand on a chair next to the alarm, it's even louder and a red light blips. I pressed the button for 10 seconds and a blue light started blipping on the side of the alarm, and then stopped. I am still no wiser as to why it's doing this...can I send somewhere for an exchange ?
@@Safelincs Hi. Sorry for the delay, Ive got some good news. It has a battery in it thats changeable, luckily i had a another battery at home, and changed it, and it works. Thanks
Mine is stupid WRECK IT
