Thanks for risking your life for 22 min of pure hilarity!! I couldn’t stop giggling like a little girl as soon as you started sliding down on those plastic jugs. 😂 I’m glad there were no injuries, you’re a legend my friend!
On the way down the mountain you should stop in at Prior and have them make you a custom pair of shorties. A size that you could hide in your pack. This way you could have some edge control. Order now for delivery before next summer. Never lose your wacky side. It keeps you you young. Tips up my friend. M.
Next time buy some snow blades, and take them in a big backpack with your ski boots. Then you’ll at least have some control. This was fun to watch though!
I own a pair of Solomon Mini Max, which are 99cm long and built like full size skis, intended to be worn with boots. I have summited and skied with them many times in a variety of conditions. The more you use small skis, the easier you will be able to identify gaps in your technique. You must constantly fire your core to maintain stability, and apply pressure to the skis at all times in order to get a smooth turn. Have fun!
Super cool you're picking up skiing and a really good call for teaching kids. Teaching on a snowboard is pretty miserable! Practicing steeper stuff when the snow is soft is key!
Man it is so depressing how bare the glaciers are. When I was there there was tons of snow. It was mid summer, at the end of July, into August. I'm stunned how little snow there is there now. I was mad they banned skiing the glacier in the summer when you said it, but after seeing it I get it.
if ya had a backpack wheel (EUC) you could ride over that terrain until you got somewhere to ski, swap out for the shorties, then when you get to the bottom just ride the backpack wheel over to the next patch, rinse, repeat.

As a kid, we had Super Slider(ing?) Snow Skates...way better tips on them but even less ability to edge. My plastic cowboy boots in grade 5 were the best lol the front corners of the heel allowed me to carve (sorta) on hardpack :)
Technically by law you can still ski the glacier. Vail does not own the actual mountain (that is crown land on a lease which means they can't deny access.)
You've got the right idea, but those skis are not helping. Try for snowfeet and a larger backpack. They are expensive but they have edges. I think they would work better

How's the ribs after that fall.😅. I fell front first like that last weekend and cracked a rib. Stupidly I had a bunch of stuff in the breast pocket of my jacket, and fell directly onto it. 😢 Bummer too, because we finaly had a couple of good dumps here in Oz. 1 weekend with 50 cm and the next with about 20cm 😅
Don’t they make those shorty skis with real edges and bindings? Might be worth the investment. There seems to be a few patches where you could really rip with them.
Nothing can stop this guy from skiing, not even a lack of skis!!

+1 to not waiting for the glass bottom gondola. Even after waiting you might not end up in a seat where you can properly see out the bottom
