In other words, go back to the OLD days where kids played with kids unsupervised by hovering parents. LIKE "The Little Rascals" of old. Stop PUSHING the kids, stop HOVERING. The child builds NO character if there are always hovering parents.

First time I've heard any parenting advice in a very long time that was worthwhile listening to. I've been screaming this very thing for years because I am a guitar instructor and my young students are all stressed out because of too many activities, high pressure at school and absolutely no free time for even the basic things needed to be a well balanced person. Their parents have them enrolled in everything available and they go go go 7 days a week. It's ridiculous and the results have been nothing but negative for these kids.

Growing up was a lot of fun. Didn't know about being bored. When I got home from school, I'd just knock off the homework first, then it was playtime. Projects took more time, even going to the library. Some children had parents helping them or even doing their assignments. Sometimes I could ask my Dad the meaning of words but I had to everything myself. I even watched TV while doing homework chatting away to siblings or parents. I knew some of my peers could never have gotten a good grade if their parent didn't do their project for them. Seemed unfair to me too but I said, That's not stopping me. I felt a sense of accomplishment beacuse my grades were of my own effort, no help. I taught my children the same. I'd buy the glue and the poster board but I wanted to see them set it up and use their imagination. I'd credit them and support their efforts. On holidays I didn't mess with schoolwork, I'd just enjoy the season. When school was open, I was back to getting top grades. Always had to be amongst the top grades or be number one. No time to be bored

This video and advice was outstanding. I lived in the country when young and the neighbour next door was probably 3/4 miles away. I wasnt bored. Nature was the magical place for me and each environment offered me a different experience like the forested area was full of vitality and tall trees giving a canopy to the little white flowers (the trillium) which is Ontario's national flour. There was often water and spongey areas with moss, rocks and so much more. I was in my own world observing, listening and drinking in the deep feelings and knowings of the stillness and the connection to the universal field of consciousness, of light and of deep knowing. The meadow offered me a different experience. I always had a friend close to me because I had a twin sister. However there were times, I just wanted to experience the magic on my own. I am glad I didnt start going to school until I was 6 1/2 years old. School was not challenging and or exciting for me. In fact it was boring and I didnt like it. I preferred the great outdoors, stillness and the beauty of the Creator. Thanks again for your great insights and knowing. Stillness and unknowingness is so vitally important. This is where you really get to know who you are. You are a magnificent and magical being. However, the school system, parents and our culture takes our power away. I know, I lived thru that. Was speaking to a woman today and she said I would never believe that you were not confident and or voiceless. It took me a long time to develop a voice. I studied myself under ancient wisdom for six years.

    • @lilyrose4191
      @lilyrose4191 Год назад

Beautifully stated. I had a similar experience growing up, they way you have described your surroundings and your connection. The only difference is I loved learning in school, although not the influences being pushed in high school. Towards the end of high school I had a serious illness, spent time in hospital and didn't finish or go on to higher education. It was my original plan to go to Uni. It took over a year to get my health back and then I went straight into the workforce. I studied at home and continue to do so.
I haven't regretted the loss of the "system" ... it turned out to be a Blessing!
Many Blessings to you and thank you for sharing!

When we were Kids we weren't 'bored.' At least I wasn't. It was MY time to read, dream, roam the Woods and fields. I grew up without the 'advantages' of constant planned activities - my parents couldn't afford it. I've never felt the need to be 'busy' in my life.

I used to kill boredom by making
regular trips to the library, especially during the summer. The fact that there were a dairy and two bakeries in the library's vicinity was also a HUGE plus. 😁🍦🧁📚. The library had a summer reading program that involved reading ten books over the summer and reporting them to the librarian. Those who fulfilled the requirements were given a special treat!👏🏽👏🏽! BTW, I would walk to and from the library by myself. Also, because I am a Baby Boomer, there was always someone to play with because just about every house on my street had children. There was no such thing as arranging play dates. You just went to a house and ask if someone could come out to play. Playing tag, hide and seekt hopscotch, jacks, drawing, fingerprinting, coloring, etc. helped me to combat boredom!

Boredom doe snot just come from idleness, it can come from monotony too. Doing a dull, meaningless job can can lead to an overall boredom in life. But adult life is full of dull repetitive tasks and time periods. How does an adult safely go on a road trip? The parent driving the car can get just as bored behind the wheel as the kids in the back, and it's much more crucial that parent has the mental discipline to stay focused and safe.
How does one do a job that is well below their skill level, but it's all that is available and without it one could go hungry? How does one wait for the water to boil so that a meal could be prepared?
Patience is part of that equation.
Boredom is not an activity level, it is a feeling, a result of one's viewpoint on the situation.
The feeling of "I'm bored" is an internal message to perhaps re-frame your viewpoint on what is happening.

Good point. I have really never been bored in my life. I don't even understand how you can be in this wonderful world. I guess when i have read every book, played every game, done every activity and learned every craft. Talked to every person that look interesting. Invented and learned how everything works. Understood all history. And thought every thought. Then i might get bored. But I think i will be safe for a few thousand years at least :) I am not afraid of dying but I might be a bit sad in the end about everything i did not have time for.

This is a wonderful issue brought up by you as there are many many many families, parents who do not know how to go about this in their family life. When we were young we would get into a lot of mischief and always entertain ourselves with playing with 5 stones or hop, skip n jump, in fact play alone also. No TV no mobiles, no gadgets to amuse ourselves so playtime or idle time was spent on the spur of the moment. Climb trees, play hide n seek in the house, water the garden, help doing small chores in the house and in the evening all friends i.e neighbours play from 5 to 7 pm throwball, 7 tiles, rounders and in the rainy season play Scrabble, Ludo, cards. Not like it is now a days. Simple ways of enjoying our playtime.

Absolutely, Palki ! A big fan of yours. This is a very important content and somehow I feel nowadays parents aren't good at parenting. Well there is a saying 'Charity begins at home'. I have found people (am talking about adults) highly impatient, and there is too much of planning in life but the irony is in the life most of the things (even the best ones) happen that you haven't planned for. I hardly find people enjoying the beauty of Nature, understanding the sound of silence. There is more appreciation for being superficial than being deep. I don't want to sound judgemental but the truth is nowadays people have very poor emotional intelligence and are very less creative, and when they are becoming parents they wont be able to teach their children the right values.

As a kid I would kill boredom by counting objects around me such as tiles, focus on sounds we ignore when busy, trying to find its source, making my own toys from wood, evaluate things that happened at school, live in fantasyland. Eventually I ended up solving problems when I had nothing to do.
A skill that's pretty useful till now.
I'm glad my parents rarely filled my day with extra activities outside home. Poor children are far more creative than rich children.
