Heck! You made my night and are my biggest hero! Not only did you address the engine fill cap butter, but you showed how easy the EGR, I mean PCV valve is to access! My Hanes manual says to remove the whole engine intake manifold on V8 3ur-fe engines!!! Thank the gods I consulted the wise members of RUclips! I used a 22 mm deep socket and cleaned with Carb & Choke cleaner. Thank you sooooo much!!!
lol, pcv valve. Thanks for the info, just bought a 2008 sequoia w/ 230000 miles and learning everything i can from these vehicles. Sequoia is also the 5.7 same setup, i am debating keeping it after i found oil in the spark plug well.
Replace the valve cover gaskets, spark plug tube gaskets and the three weirdly shaped VVT o-rings on both sides. Parts are reasonable, but labor will get you if you can't DIY it. (I just did that on my 2008 Tundra, Limited, Dbl Cab, tow pkg, with 5.7L and 224k).
Oil in the spark plug tube is common with ignition-coil-on-plug engine design. Replace the spark plug tube gaskets. However, to get to them you have to remove the valve cover, so just do a entire valve cover gasket replacement. The 5.7L has a bunch of little gaskets in the valve cover.
Thanks for the video! I was always wondering how to get that foam out w/o destroying it. Great advice on the light touch to tighten. I would've done the same trying to tighten with ratchet, even trying a 1/4 turn after it stops turning casually.
Glad to hear! I go back and watch this video from time to time - I hesitated to post it bc it’s so choppy but I’m glad I did bc I believe it’s been a help to people despite the production quality and voiceover work!😂
the real hard part is how did you get the broken rpg I mean pcv out that tight spot without dropping anything down the hole. that coulve been a video by itself extracting broken pcv valve. glad to see it all worked out.
From my recollection- it was with an extended set of needle nose. They might have been double jointed. However, with the low amount of torque, it spun out okay.
@@MrTigerHank you got any idea how I can get mine out? I've been using extractor taps and it's just making the hole bigger. Edit: the part the PCV valve connects to is called the case separator. It's 60 bucks from Toyota. I'm getting me one of those and not trying any more ways this doesn't work.
I just replaced mine, unfortunately the old pcv valve fell through a crack I can’t get it out, I bought a new one and put it in maybe some day if I have to replace other things on the engine I can get it out.
You must have really torqued that. I just tightened with a socket wrench just snuggly and no issues. People saying hand tight are wrong. It will throw a vacuum leak if it loosens at all
I definitely cracked it just holding the head of the socket and knowing it was plastic. I was just trying to compress the o-ring. However, that o-ring doesn’t need much torque at all- I’d guess on the magnitude of 5in-lb. I’d say as long as that oring compresses some, you’re good.
The main difference was the moisture was evaporated out of the oil. The clogged PCV was leading to milky oil residue on the oil cap and stick which really concerned me. I can’t recall if there were running/performance issues. Probably not significant if any.
Everything is made out of plastic junk these days. Oh well, thanks for sharing. Good to see the mistakes as well as the successes. If it all went perfect then we wouldn't know what not to do.
YOu know you can just take of the PCV and put a hose looking down the truck. That way all those gases will go to the atmosphere instead of reciling dirty gases into the engine.
You know the performance benefits that you gain from that are very minimal but the amount of pollution you increase is quite astonishing its also very illegal to do and will throw dashboard codes. And if it clogs while you're up there mudding well you can say goodbye to every single seal in your engine

That’s for the kind words brother- made my day!
Such an important maintenance item people always overlook. Great work on the video too.

its the limited version with 4.3 gears for towing.

Great video. Learned a lot, thanks! 👍👍👍

My 2008 Toyota Sequoia Limited was the exact same as yours!
Lol love the voiceovers so funny !!!
lol that voiceover
Make sure you change the grommet or it’ll crack and fall in side the engine
What are you referring to?
Awesome video!
Thanks!
Good thanks man❤
Did it make a difference? What improvements did you see?

Gracias maestro.
were you losing any oil with this PCV valve going bad too?
I do not believe I was losing oil. I do believe it was contributing to some moisture in the oil though.
Get oil catch cans. They’ll save you thousands in the long run.
sound mad at yourself lol. Good vid tho.
7/8 inch socket...
😂 PCV VALVE! OIL!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

If you have state inspections, that will fail every time.
Obviously a Trump voter. 🤡
