Ruyi left like she was never even there, left alot of questions unanswered but the answers are there to seek. Left alot of people regretting that they could have done better. She left like the queen she is, most importantly she gave what she had to offer in the best way possible that for me defines being human more than anything. This scene makes me me sad and a little bitter in how life can turn out unfair yet forgiving as well.

Probably poison. But how is Ruyi going to get over tuberculosis? This is the late 1700 in China and doctors have no idea about bacteria. I doubt anyone with TB could survive. Or at least the chance of them getting better is really very slim. With that out of the way, I'm sure she just chose to die on her own terms. Refusing to take her "medication" and just let the illness run its course.
Ruyi didn't take medicine for tuberculosis so in a way you are right in both ways, she died from the illness and also chose to avoid a painful end on her own terms by not drinking the meds
