I think with No Man's Sky you either like it or you don't. The game isn't great, but it isn't terrible either. It is somewhere in the middle. I enjoy it for the most part, but I can't play it for more than an hour or two because it gets so repetitive and boring. The main issue I have is that the game really doesn't do anything well. The survival aspect is half ass, the crafting isn't that great, you mine the same 3-4 minerals on every planet, after a bit the animals start to look the same, the controls and space combat are terrible, etc. Keep in mind this is my opinion. That having been said the atmosphere is fun and the music is solid, and the game is just kind of fun to get lost in for an hour or two. Beyond that the game is far too repetitive and boring for me to play beyond that. I will keep playing until I at least get to the center, but overall I'd say the game is in the middle of the road. I enjoyed The Solus Project so much more because it nailed the survival aspect and was super immersive with the events happening, the storms actually being a threat, etc. In No Man's Sky I just feel the survival is just poorly done and interferes with the exploration aspect. That and if I hear "Inventory Full" one more time I might scream, lol.
I'm glad you shared this opinion. Personally I love doing that so that I can save up for a nice ship, my only problem is the only majorly expensive things are ships and soon to be freighters. Also mining could definitely be more fun, and discreet combat is being fixed in the next update.
After an hour it gets repetitive and boring..and it doesnt do anything well....yet it is not a bad game...hmm..interesting. The only Thing i am personally convinced of is that it is not worth the 60€. Never. Not with games like ark and subnautica, who are way better Exploration games by the way and less boring, cash in at 20.

I'm so glad you pointed out what a bad game really is. It annoys me when people call No Man's Sky bad game. When its not. I've tried to explain that for what No Mans Sky is, its a solid game. Yeah, it lacks the shoot-em-up that a lot of people like and could use more variety. But I love it. Before it released I joked that if exploring is all there was to do I the game that it would get boring and I would play it a few hours and quit. I am shocked at how much I enjoy exploring in No Mans Sky and yes there is more to do than exploring. Like following the underlying story and lore. Something the game does not point you toward and you have to find on your own while exploring and paying attention to details. I'm 40 hours of time in if that says how much I like it. I like space games too and you said it best. It scratches so kind of itch that appeals to me. Its not the Space sim I was expecting so I call it a Scifi/Fantasy. Still a good game. For what No Mans Sky is, it does very well. I feel like the developers created a solid foundation for whatever they want to add to the game next though and I hope they continue to add more. I don't normally like little dogs like Sammy, but he's so sweet. The way he fawns over you and just wants to be near you is so cute. Like I said, I usually really dislike small dogs - I prefer medium to large dogs - but Sammy is clearly a good puppy.
No man's Sky is as of this post, 38% on steam. Apparently it doesn't work properly on PC. I was holding judgement on the game until when the PC crowd go the game, when the more hardcore players dug into it.

I have thought about all the people that do not like that game, and I classify them in two categories. Either the game doesn't work for you in some way, I will classify those people as "Those who want to love it, but can't because they can't experience it." We can disregard these people for this purpose. The other type are the people who just don't like it. Those people tend to be the people whose imaginations for whatever reason are unable to comprehend the vastness that is space as a whole. Yes its repetitive, because its a big galaxy in a big universe, so big that if you had the entirety of your life to explore it, you still wouldn't see everything. If you had the entirety of every human life on this planet all in one, you still would not live long enough to see everything. That is what makes this game so amazing, the infinite possibility, the unknown, because at the end of the day if you are not seeing it, its maybe not because its not there, but rather you can't ever reach it, and that is a frustrating feeling, and I imagine for some that makes them not like the game as much.
Boogie, don't get into the Texas oceans. They water is brown and gross and there have been a couple incidents where people who went into the ocean on the coast and got a flesh eating virus. Once guy had to have his leg amputated and another guy almost had to have an amputation. I always appreciate Boogie's honest, middle-grounded opinions on things. Can't say the same for other RUclipsrs who usually are on the polar opposites when it comes to their opinions. I have been playing NMS on my PS4 since the 10th and have been barely been able to put it down. Like, I have to stop myself from playing for it after a when I realize I've been playing for the past several hours. I've barely even scratched the surface of it. I might get bored of it after some time, and once FFXV comes out I'll probably stop playing it, but I have been loving it right now. It is tedious, but I agree with Boogie that it is a tediousness I enjoy. It's a such a relaxing, chill gaming experience for me, and I think it's that way for many other people who have been enjoying it.
The creatures in No Man's Sky don't look procedurally created to me. They look like they created some body parts, allowed the computer change the size and colour of them and then randomly stick them together to get a unique animal. I bet there's a planet somewhere in it with winged snails.

ploperator my thoughts exactly, back when info was first coming out for this game HG said that the game engine had rules built in to create creatures that "made sense", and that there were hundreds of different models to iterate off of. Clearly not the end result because all I keep finding are fuckin armadillo dogs and walking mushrooms.

This is exactly whats wrong with the gaming industry, there is no "independent" minimum quality control on these expensive 60 euro or 67 dollar products. As long as this unregulated market continues people will suffer. Just a fact. And no, reviews from individual entities can not be substitute or standard for independent quality control.
10 hours in, loving the hell out of this game. besides a few fps hiccups, it's really damn impressive for an indie dev team. and they're working like crazy to patch it for all the people with lower-end rigs.everyone is treating it like a AAA title from a AAA dev team, and acting like 60 bucks is a lot of money for as massive an undertaking as the game is in 2016 just isn't practical anymore. there's a refund option on steam, as well. use it if you're that upset.
Been playing No Man's Sky all day, on PC. I love it. After messing with some of the settings for a few minutes I've had no issues. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I'm loving it. I hope others will get to experience it without hiccups soon!
Not a bad game, just a broken one, currently. It is also being worked on to fix the issues. Many of the issues are user problems, non updated drivers, low end graphics cards. Not all the issues, but many of them. Just because a game is having issues on launch day does not make the game bad, just broken.

It just takes a while to see new things in No Mans Sky, which I love as a gamer who will spend a vast amount of time in a game if it can keep me interested. Playing almost 30 hours of NMS then finding a new game mechanic is a pretty great feeling. It's a game that takes time to unfold. A lot of time.

I love exploring No Mans Sky, especially learning about the different races. However, I do regret leaving one system and then I ended up in a System with a new race (The V'Ykreen). I have already learned over 100 words for the Gek, and then BOOM! New race to learn. This is a game for the long haul guys. Trust me, when I start to understand multiple languages, got me a better ship and a better Multi-Tool and have the ability to actually discover the mystery of the Universe I got dropped in.... Fuck, I love this game.
as a very recent subscriber i wouldnt a little more of sammy. had to put dog i had for 10 years down about a week ago so that definitely left a hole. its nice seeing other people still being able to enjoy their friend.
Sammy! Dude, I live in Houston, which is about an hour from Galveston. It's hoooooooot here. Take all the precautions you need. Lots of water, bring a thing with ice or frozen cloths or whatever. Just know that's it's ultra-hot and Texas humidity makes it hotter than most heats you've experienced. It's like basting in an oven, except the oven is all of God's outdoors.
Sammy says have a safe trip into Galveston. Hope you like the ocean breeze that usually blows over most of the place. And if you travel over the bridge, and you likely will, enjoy the sights if yer not driving.

Galveston is fun. I live about an two hours away from Galveston and have been there plenty of times. The humidity is near 100% all the time and is what makes it feel so hot. I wish I could come to Cravecon and meet you, but that is not in the cards. Say hi to Sammy! Love your videos!
In my opinion the game is a space survival game with basic crafting elements. Not my thing, I prefer hard games and in this genre of space games, I'll keep to ED. I think the game was shrouded in such mystery, which works for a book or a horror scene as the horror is not written/shown but rather your imagination is left to run wild. In NMS there was the same affect on people, however unlike a subtle part of a film or book, this game is just a crafting survival game in space but made our imaginations run wild through hype until it could never possibly please. Too much hype over something none of us had any idea over.
I spent a few hours on No Man's Sky on pc and man it was a terrible experience. Couldn't even get the game to launch at first. Then I updated my GPU drivers and the game loaded up, but it had awful framerate stuttering. Then a couple hours into the game I found myself in a loop of traveling to other new planets(which is cool), but then collecting the exact same resources as on all the other planets(not cool), just to stay alive. The game is missing something, I can't really put my finger on what it is though.
On the subject of No Man's Sky.. After ~50hours (in which I did have fun), I can relate to Francis' latest rant. The amount of assets created is very minimal compared to what it should be after the amount of development time. It starts to get very 'samey' after about 10hours... The same small bunch of assets repeated and randomised slightly. So yeah, if you were thinking of getting NMS, think twice and check more reviews. Anyway enough about No Man's Sky... What I really wanted to say is for people to check out an Early Access game on Steam called 'Empyrion - Galactic Survival'. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than th overpriced NMS and much more content and arguably better I would say.
(unless i took this part out of context 2:35) boogie you cant base how many ppl like the game to how many ppl watch in streams of any kind, like me and i know others if the streamer is a really good streamer they can make a boring game to watch fun to watch like yourself, bikeman, etc. and the only reason i am personally so critical to it, is the price tag they put on it, they put a AAA price tag so it should be judged partly on that in my opinion, if it was like 30usd i would look past some of the flaws because its not made by a big company its a vary small company. But it is also missing some to a lot of ppl, basic functions, such as save routes back to systems you like, an actual ship market or can at least change the color of a ship you bought. While i do think no one should blindly hate a game no one should blindly accept either cus ppl saying things on the line of "You just dont know how to play the game it just has a few bugs but its fine besides that" will not make better games but on the flip side if you just hate the game cus a streamer/YTer you like hates it your just as bad and in some cases worse then the ones who blindly defend the games flaws.
Me as a gamer is really into the mechanics of the game. I love interesting mechanics, combat, controls, those kinds of things. And unfortunately for me, NMS is really, really lackluster in all those fields.
I feel the same way about no mans sky. I wasn't look for another shooter and I like the relaxed feel of the game. I have just been exploring my home solar system since launch and I'm playing a couple of hours day. I'm still loving it, although it is repetitive. but wandering into a cave system and getting lost for over an hour was just great. you get what you put into the game and it wasn't going to be for everyone. glad you're enjoying it and I hope Sammy is too. have a safe trip.

I'm with you, Boogie. Call of Duty really does nothing for me. I enjoy playing through the campaigns, but, after that, I'm done with the game. I never even load the multiplayer portion. There are better games out there to scratch my military itch, such as Project Reality. On the other hand, No Man's Sky really looks like it would scratch that hard-to-reach itch on my back between my shoulder blades when it comes to gaming. The way it was presented at E3 2015 and on Conan piques my interest in the best way. It's just really a shame that I had to submit a refund request to Steam because I can't even load the game. Sure, I could get the PS4 version, but I have an intense hatred for control pads when playing FPS games.

I think one of the other big issues with the game is the price tag. Was it $60 on the PC as well because it came out for the PS4?

I've seen t-rexes flying on butterfly-sized wings. The creature creation in this game is worse than in any other game I've ever played lmao

This is exactly whats wrong with the gaming industry, there is no "independent" minimum quality control on these expensive 60 euro or 67 dollar products. As long as this unregulated market continues people will suffer. Just a fact. And no, reviews from individual entities can not be substitute or standard for independent quality control.
10 hours in, loving the hell out of this game. besides a few fps hiccups, it's really damn impressive for an indie dev team. and they're working like crazy to patch it for all the people with lower-end rigs.everyone is treating it like a AAA title from a AAA dev team, and acting like 60 bucks is a lot of money for as massive an undertaking as the game is in 2016 just isn't practical anymore. there's a refund option on steam, as well. use it if you're that upset.

Been playing No Man's Sky all day, on PC. I love it. After messing with some of the settings for a few minutes I've had no issues. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I'm loving it. I hope others will get to experience it without hiccups soon!

Not a bad game, just a broken one, currently. It is also being worked on to fix the issues. Many of the issues are user problems, non updated drivers, low end graphics cards. Not all the issues, but many of them. Just because a game is having issues on launch day does not make the game bad, just broken.

It just takes a while to see new things in No Mans Sky, which I love as a gamer who will spend a vast amount of time in a game if it can keep me interested. Playing almost 30 hours of NMS then finding a new game mechanic is a pretty great feeling. It's a game that takes time to unfold. A lot of time.

I love exploring No Mans Sky, especially learning about the different races. However, I do regret leaving one system and then I ended up in a System with a new race (The V'Ykreen). I have already learned over 100 words for the Gek, and then BOOM! New race to learn.
This is a game for the long haul guys. Trust me, when I start to understand multiple languages, got me a better ship and a better Multi-Tool and have the ability to actually discover the mystery of the Universe I got dropped in....

There is a fix for pc, the FPS setting is lagged, It HAS to be set to 90 FPS or above to work, i would recommend keeping 90

Dude, I live in Houston, which is about an hour from Galveston. It's hoooooooot here. Take all the precautions you need. Lots of water, bring a thing with ice or frozen cloths or whatever. Just know that's it's ultra-hot and Texas humidity makes it hotter than most heats you've experienced. It's like basting in an oven, except the oven is all of God's outdoors.

Galveston is fun. I live about an two hours away from Galveston and have been there plenty of times. The humidity is near 100% all the time and is what makes it feel so hot. I wish I could come to Cravecon and meet you, but that is not in the cards. Say hi to Sammy! Love your videos!

In my opinion the game is a space survival game with basic crafting elements. Not my thing, I prefer hard games and in this genre of space games, I'll keep to ED.
I think the game was shrouded in such mystery, which works for a book or a horror scene as the horror is not written/shown but rather your imagination is left to run wild. In NMS there was the same affect on people, however unlike a subtle part of a film or book, this game is just a crafting survival game in space but made our imaginations run wild through hype until it could never possibly please.
Too much hype over something none of us had any idea over.
I spent a few hours on No Man's Sky on pc and man it was a terrible experience. Couldn't even get the game to launch at first. Then I updated my GPU drivers and the game loaded up, but it had awful framerate stuttering. Then a couple hours into the game I found myself in a loop of traveling to other new planets(which is cool), but then collecting the exact same resources as on all the other planets(not cool), just to stay alive. The game is missing something, I can't really put my finger on what it is though.
On the subject of No Man's Sky.. After ~50hours (in which I did have fun), I can relate to Francis' latest rant. The amount of assets created is very minimal compared to what it should be after the amount of development time. It starts to get very 'samey' after about 10hours... The same small bunch of assets repeated and randomised slightly. So yeah, if you were thinking of getting NMS, think twice and check more reviews. Anyway enough about No Man's Sky... What I really wanted to say is for people to check out an Early Access game on Steam called 'Empyrion - Galactic Survival'. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than th overpriced NMS and much more content and arguably better I would say.

(unless i took this part out of context 2:35) boogie you cant base how many ppl like the game to how many ppl watch in streams of any kind, like me and i know others if the streamer is a really good streamer they can make a boring game to watch fun to watch like yourself, bikeman, etc. and the only reason i am personally so critical to it, is the price tag they put on it, they put a AAA price tag so it should be judged partly on that in my opinion, if it was like 30usd i would look past some of the flaws because its not made by a big company its a vary small company. But it is also missing some to a lot of ppl, basic functions, such as save routes back to systems you like, an actual ship market or can at least change the color of a ship you bought. While i do think no one should blindly hate a game no one should blindly accept either cus ppl saying things on the line of "You just dont know how to play the game it just has a few bugs but its fine besides that" will not make better games but on the flip side if you just hate the game cus a streamer/YTer you like hates it your just as bad and in some cases worse then the ones who blindly defend the games flaws.

Me as a gamer is really into the mechanics of the game. I love interesting mechanics, combat, controls, those kinds of things. And unfortunately for me, NMS is really, really lackluster in all those fields.

I feel the same way about no mans sky. I wasn't look for another shooter and I like the relaxed feel of the game. I have just been exploring my home solar system since launch and I'm playing a couple of hours day. I'm still loving it, although it is repetitive. but wandering into a cave system and getting lost for over an hour was just great. you get what you put into the game and it wasn't going to be for everyone. glad you're enjoying it and I hope Sammy is too. have a safe trip.

I'm with you, Boogie. Call of Duty really does nothing for me. I enjoy playing through the campaigns, but, after that, I'm done with the game. I never even load the multiplayer portion. There are better games out there to scratch my military itch, such as Project Reality. On the other hand, No Man's Sky really looks like it would scratch that hard-to-reach itch on my back between my shoulder blades when it comes to gaming. The way it was presented at E3 2015 and on Conan piques my interest in the best way.
It's just really a shame that I had to submit a refund request to Steam because I can't even load the game. Sure, I could get the PS4 version, but I have an intense hatred for control pads when playing FPS games.
