In the morning of May 22, 2022, I decided to film numerous crossings on the south leg of the CTrain Red Line. After I filmed the pedestrian crossing at Anderson Station, I headed over to Somerset-Bridlewood to film the pedestrian crossing here, as well as the nearby 162 Ave crossing. A couple minutes after I set up my camera, the crossing activated, and a red line train heading northbound to 39th Avenue came through with an SD160NG Series 8 consist.
This crossing is pretty nice. The crossing was built around 2003-2004, when the red line was extended south to its current terminus in 2004. At the time of filming, the crossing was entirely original, featuring Safetran equipment, and GS Type 2 E-Bells with sound blockers on them. A few months after filming, Calgary Transit replaced all the remaining sound blocked GS Type 2 E-Bells with WCH E-Bell, including this crossing. Glad I was able to film it when I did.
