Hey, thank you for the information. I have got an admit for MSc Sustainable Energy Technology and looking for housing. You said that you had your accommodation in Van Hasseltelaan, could you please let me know how it is to have a private accommodation there? My other options are Roland Holstlaan. Thank you in advance.
Yes, in private accomodation in Van Hasseltlaan you can bike to university and get rent allowance! Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to get all the updates! Roland will be nearer to university and all markets. Houses are bit smaller but you get rent allowance if you get private accomodation there too. If you want to live closer to university and many markets then choose Roland. Van Hass is only less then 1 km away from Roland because Delft is a small city!
How long does it take to have it analized? And also I live in a sutdio house ( my own bathroom, bedroom and kitech/balcony). The building has a common entrance only, like an apartment. I have my own contract apart from the other studios. Basically I dont even talk to the neighbours. That should count as private, right? Im not sure though how they manage this in geemente , but if they register more than one person in the whole building, is there a way I can protest proving I have my own contract and my own facilities?
No, better contact your rent owner or Geemente to be sure if your house is private. If you have any old registration in the house then you can ask the Geemente to deregister them from the house because they no longer live there and it should take some weeks.
No, basic rules are same. Only the threshold might have increased or decreased which can be found in the link in the video description. Always refer the link to get the latest updates. Video is just a guide and outline :)
Hello bro, i will be starting my Master's in Utrecht University from September 2023. I took contract from my landlord for 6 months. I will be renting a room in his house, but there are 2 more people including the landlord. Can i apply for the rental allowance.
If you share anything then you are not eligible for HRA. Please check the video and website in the description to know the full details about the eligibility conditions to apply for HRA!
Hi, very nice video! I have a question, if you rent a house together with a friend/partner, can the basic rent be divided by half in order to get the subsidy. For instance, if the rent is 800€ but each of us pays 400, when we apply for the rent subsidy individually, can we say that we pay 400€? Thanks in advance!
No, sorry the first and foremost condition was that you should live in a private accommodation when the video was made in Dec 2018. So, in your case you are not eligible. You can cross verify to be sure of this.
Yes, I think so because the authorities will not allow when any small thing is shared as you do in a hostel. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to get all updates!
@@fredaamoako9723 It's about having 1 front door. If you share the front door with other people, you are officially living together with them. It doesn't matter how the arrangements inside are, if you have everything separate or not - if you share your front door with others, you are not living on your own and are treated as such. So in your case, probably no allowance
Normally your address is automatically shown as registered with the municipality. As far as I remember, you can cancel the application you already made and make another fresh application where you give the correct address. You can also contact belastingdienst if you face issues with the application online. Belastingdienst or tax authorities are available via phone and also speak English!
Check the free rent calculator in the video description. It depends on your gross salary. If it is below the threshold then you get it. Ideally working as a PhD you might get for the year you join if you work for not full year and your gross salary is less but for a full year I think you won't get it like me. Check my other videos on this playlist to get an idea regarding this where I gave some examples :)
Thank you so much for the video. It is very informative. You are doing a great job😊 May I know if this housing allowance is applicable for a short stay in Netherlands i.e 6 months. Or is a 1 year housing contract mandatory?
Hi Sambit, your videos have been an excellent source of information for the Netherlands. I just have a question regarding Home Rent Allowance. There is a clause as to how much assets I own. Does that include assets I own in India too? Thank you in advance.
I don't think so. But, better ask the tax authorities once you come here to be extra sure. You can always apply the house rent after 3 - 4 months of staying in the house :)
If I rent a house that is owned by my father will I be eligible for rent allowance? We have a contract and everything that a normal rent agreement would entail.
Thank you for the video! I have some questions, If im an international student studying in Amsterdam with a scholarship, what should we put as income? As i understand, we dont need to work in amstredam to be eligible for this benefit. Also, if i'll start the class on 1 Sep 2020, will it possible to apply on my arrival day 30/ 31 Aug ? Thank you
Congratulation! I would be happy to take your short interview if you are willing to on how you applied and got the scholarship! HRA can be applied even after arriving in any month may be after 3, 4, 5 months. First you need to register with the municipality and then you can apply if you satisfy all the conditions as mentioned in the video. I think once you get the scholarship, still your income is 0. So, you should get the allowance. But, you can always cross check that with the belastingdienst toeslagen via telephone once you arrive here! Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to get all updates :)
Yes, as long as your house is private and not shared and you follow the conditions that I mentioned in the video then you will get the HRA. You don't need a job!! Moreover, your gross income should also be less than some 20 or 25k per year! Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to get all updates!
Hey Sambit! Thanks for the video. Really helpful. I got one concern. Is housing allowance guaranteed given all the criteria are fulfilled? I mean is there a chance that the application gets rejected? I am planning to rent a student housing studio in Groningen and I have to sign a 1 year contract but If my allowance application gets rejected, it will be a disaster for me financially. So I just wanted to know the risk of renting a studio.
No, you have to check the criteria and if you fulfill everything then it should be accepted. After fulfilling all criteria there is no chance of rejection but make sure to check the criteria properly on the website and be sure that your housing contract satisfy these criteria. Good luck!

Hello, thanks for this video! Will be starting my MSC in Utrecht in September 2019, does this mean I can’t apply till I go to Utrecht and start working? And is there a minimum amount of rent I have to be paying and when you mean income, does one have to start working in the Netherlands first? (Btw I am an international student) thanks
Yes, first you have to register with the the municipality and live in Netherlands to be eligible to apply! When you are a student then you never cross the max income limit. Yes, there is a minimum rent which can be found in the links in the description as it varies each year! Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to keep getting info!

Hey Kismat! I’m moving to Leeuwarden this September and planning to apply for housing allowance. I was wondering if you applied and got the benefits?
I checked the requirements. It demands for work permit.
