Truly one of his finest moments, this song. You can hear him a bit better on the Fall in a Hole version. There's also a really good version from New Jersey, in I think April 1983 or thereabouts, but I never see it around.
Yes, effing insane avant garde keys. And backdrop is dam near the best track on IN A HOLE, which itself is one of the best live fall albums. Just a bit of perspective IMHO
The Fall - Backdrop (Austurbaejarbio, Reykjavik, Iceland - 6 May 1983) 0327am 19.12.21 it's not often i stick my nose in but... i only agree with the style of word(s) utilized herein: bitchin'!!!! a term peel uttered during one particular overt musical sesh wherein said word was uttered. old big tits will have the specific details of that particular conversation.... ....after that i turned off the radio.... the term: 'it's bitchin'!' was also uttered by myself circa 1993 during stretch heads rendition of: i should be so lucky. this term of endearment can be uttered in response to most popular kultural excursions. though after congress with the opposite number... i dunno if it'd go down too well. try it. and see!!!!
@@thejewk386 It's possible they recorded those but didn't deem them satisfactory for release. I posed the question to the Fall message board once and that was my takeaway from their collective knowledge. So, not to definitively say those things don't or didn't exist, just that we don't have them. : (
And there was me thinking I had heard every single Fall classic.
If I could go back in time, I'd see this era Fall.
1981 or 1983 for me, I'm easy which!
Killer performance by the Mighty FALL. I play this gig regularly on max volume.
Amazingly true to life.
great bass by hanley

Think that's a given for all Gruppe Tunes but I don't think Craig Scanlon gets enough credit ✌️
Never heard this before. Great stuff and good recording.
I was at the same location over 20 years later and it was an amazing concert. I wish I had a recording of that, but this will have to do for now...
Amazing keyboard solo!

Six. Foot. Cooked
The backdrop, reptilian, amphibious, cannibal haze, state-subsidized, with gordon's gin chaser

Is there a studio version of Backdrop?
Nope, never did one. Same as Words of Expectation, another classic.

best version is on "FALL IN A HOLE" (live album) imo
