Good timing. I have a 12" Classic that sat out under a telescope cover for several years, and last summer when powering it up I heard a pop and it went dead. I'm about to bring it in and troubleshoot. (Had it since around 2001.) Wish me luck. Thanks for posting this.
My LX200 Classic powers on with two bars and gives a beep. It says Clearline on the hand paddle display, but it does nothing else. The buttons do nothing, the motors do not turn, and the display stays frozen. With all the parts still in the scope, can I troubleshoot this by unplugging things in the reverse order? DEC motor, hand paddle, RA motor, mainboard, etc?
I've recently bought an old (classic) LX200 for a very nice price second hand. However the previous owner turned it on after a long time no use and guess what happend... C2 burned out and put a hole inside the ribbon cable, like you said... I'm looking now to replace the broken C2, and i've found a scheme that says it should be a 6.8UF capacitor, is this correct?
Wow I found someone that owns this telescope! I just purchased a 10" classic with a 92 date inside the hand controller. I connected it to the wall adapter which was never used and nothing happened. I plugged in the car 18 to 12v adapter and it beeped once and then nothing else happened. Unfortunately I overpaid because I thought half the asking price would be worth my trouble and I thought I'd be able to purchase a used mount for the money I saved but I cannot find any online. Do you work on these for a living? Could I send you the electronics and pay you to take a look at it? I know very little about electronics but I do have a soldering iron and I'm pretty good at taking things apart.
Hi: I have a Classic LX200 f/10 from 2001. Recently repaired Dec Runaway. Was returned from a repair shop and now I have N/S reversed in Dec motor. Since I do astrophotography, my GOTO and SLEWS are reversed when planetarium software tries to communicate with LX200. Your opinion for the cause of this would be appreciated. Thank you.
I have a Meade 12 inch Classic and my scope passes all these tests but, the declination motor does not move when I press the N and S keys on my controller. I have determinesdthat the declination motor is good by placing a 3 volt battery across the declination motor inputs. I did remove the declination cable from the front panel while performing this test. Do you have any ideas what might be wrong?
Hello, I am working on an LX200 telescope that came with not turning on, I have fixed the issue, but now the motors are spinning continuously. Is there any hint you can give me to point me in the right direction? Thanks
Is it both motors or just one? What is your setup for testing...bench or in the scope? Check your big ribbon cable to make sure you are not one pin or row off. Usually when both motors go into runaway, it's a wiring problem.
@@lx200electronicsexchange7 Hi, thanks for your reply. I am testing in the scope; the power board was faulty at the beginning, with some capacitors burned, I fixed that, but now, when I power on the scope both motors are starting to spin continuously
Nice video, my 8” inch classic died again today. With smoke coming from the main board. I spent a fortune last time this happened. Had it repaired, now gone again the same way. De forking this time sadly

I'll be posting the electronics installation video soon!
Let us know how it turns out!
This is very helpful! Thank you so much.
Amazing! Thank you for this!
How about the rest of the capacitors on the main board ( i think there are 9 yellow capacitors) they are not a potential risk?
Thank you
Could you do the same diagnosis with LX 200 GPS?
No not the same way. What troubles are you having?

You need to test the RA motor. I'll go live on Tuesday 7/12/2022 at 7pm EDT and show you how to check it with an ohm meter
I have an 8" that needs a DEC motor. Any suggestions on finding parts would be greatly appreciated. Thx

Yes that would work. 6.8 - 10 uf are all good just get ones 35v-50v not the original 25v rated

It could be the hand controller...ribbon cable burnt, a bad motor control board or U18 chip

I’m having same problem. But just the bottom motor spinning, have you fixed that problem yet?
You may want to power off when plug the interface board to the main board.

I would like to buy your scope. Mine needs a motor. send me a PM if interested.
