- Well, this is Bulgarian former anthem "Maritsa Rushes", with Serbian and English translations.
"Шуми Марица" е на Българската национален химн от 1886 до 1944 г. Музиката бе взето от немски народна песен "Wenn die Soldaten durch die Stadt marschieren", който е много популярна в България в средата на 19 век. Оригиналният текст е написана от Никола Живкова, главен учител във Велес (сега в Република Македония). Текстовете редактирани са много пъти, най-вече през 1912 г. от поета Иван Вазов.

My favourite version of this anthem :)
Love to Tsardom of Bulgaria, from Kingdom of Poland!
I love how dark the lyrics are, juxtaposed on such an upbeat tune.
Shows the Bulgarian spirit, especially during wartime.

We all know how your offensive strategies and your marches ended LOL. I wonder if there is a war Bulgaria has won or been on the winning side except the First Balkan War.
greetings from Hungary!
The last brother war on the Balkans was caused by Serbia not upholding an agreement, because the western powers fucked them over by recognizing Albania. As a Bulgarian, I do not blame the Serbs and hope they do not blame us for fighting for what we had agreed already agreed on (Macedonia for Bulgaria).
Kosovo je Srbia.
Makedonia e Bulgarska.
Greetings to my Bulgarian and Serbian brothers, Balkans strong, hopefully war with Turkey soon!
Thracian Tendency Pirin srceto na Makedonija !!!
Serbia did not uphold its agreement but we were the same untrustworthy traitors. The reason Romania attacked us during the second war was because we did not uphold our agreement to give them territories in Dobrudja. Blaming each other over who did what is like having two bloodthirsty killers blame each other for who killed who. We were ruled by an idiot king who had us betray and kill our brothers, dragged us into the First World War on the side of the maniacal revanchists and preferred to use bulgarian lives on the bargaining table rather than wit and tact, but all of this is behind us.
The International Jewish power incited the war. Just like most wars. The middleman caused it for his own benefit. Just like most wars...

Cool and lesser know fact is that the original version of this song was actually written by the Bulgarian Nikola Zhivkov during the 1876 Serbo-Turkish War when he just like many other Bulgarian revolutionaries was fighting on the Serbian side as part of the Slavic Volunteer Corps; the "general of ours" mentioned in the lyrics was originally none other than the commander of the Slavic volunteers, the Russsian General Chernyayev.

When bulgaria forms grater bulgaria
Just reading the lyrics, this anthem has no indications it belonged to a Kingdom (Tsardom to be exact), because it makes zero mentions to the royal family, unlike most anthems of Empires and Kingdoms. Instead, this anthem sounds a bit like that of a communist state, minus the praises for communism; certainly a very nationalistic anthem.
Yet it was made illegal by the communist regime. There were other royal anthems to praise the Tsars such as "Боже царя ни пази/God save the Tsar". Then again Tsar Boris was loved by the commoners and often spend nights at the villages with them.

Germany stole this and used it in "wenn die Soldaten"
Actually Bulgaria liked the tune of Wenn Die Soldaten, and after changing it up a bit made it their anthem. Either way both songs are great, and unique. Long live both empires.
@@americanmonarchist6592 The Bulgarian Anthem "Shumi Maritsa" was made a lot earlier than "Wenn Die Soldaten" :)
Shumi Maritsa is from 1886 and Wenn Die Soldaten is from -1916-.
edit: turns out we really liked it lol
@@sportmax5202 Wenn Die Soldaten was made in the early 1800s between 1830-1850 I would give the proper year but I am having some trouble in the digging. (Edit: I have been getting some answers saying it arose from a song in the posse "The Pirates" in 1839 which would mean it is 47 years older than the Bulgarian Anthem) You are thinking it was made in 1916 because in 1916 two new verses were added to the end of it.
If you were to look up the Bulgarian Anthem here in the wiki, and I am sure a few sparse articles it will tell you it was derived from the German folk song "Wenn die Soldaten durch die Stadt marschieren", and that is was very popular in Bulgaria in the 19th century.
Wenn die Soldaten came first but that doesn't mean the Bulgarian anthem here is any lesser than that song they are both great songs from great empires, and both should be respected, and after all both Germany, and Bulgaria was been allies for a long time fighting together in the madness of the trenches in ww1, and so on.
In short there is no reason to be upset that this amazing anthem/song used parts/music of a German Folk Song. Because it made it their own version, and made it even more amazing.

Serbia should have a special place in the heart of every Bulgarian, on the account of late XIX century Serbian-Bulgarian war being the last armed conflict brave and war-like Bulgarian people actually won.
